Kuldeep Yadav provided the first breakthrough for India on Day 2 by dismissing Ryan Rickelton at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, November 15. The left-arm wrist-spinner trapped Rickelton lbw for 11, as the Proteas lost their first wicket with a 12-run deficit.
The dismissal came in the seventh over of South Africa’s second innings and was the last ball before the tea break. Kuldeep bowled a flighted delivery on a good length, and Rickelton stayed back to defend, expecting the ball to spin. To his surprise, the ball continued on a straight line, and he was plumb in front of the stumps. Ball tracking showed it would have crashed into the leg stump.
Kuldeep Yadav had also bagged two wickets in the first innings against the Proteas. Meanwhile, Rickelton failed twice with the bat, perishing for 23 in the first innings.
