Just three games into the 2025-26 women’s college basketball season, Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo has already made her mark.

The star Fighting Irish guard delivered an astonishing performance, tallying 16 steals in just 28 minutes. This incredible feat set the Division I record for the most steals in a single game during an 85-58 victory over Akron on Wednesday evening.

But Hidalgo’s impact didn’t stop there. She also scored 44 points—the highest-scoring game in Notre Dame women’s basketball history. The 5-foot-6 junior was highly efficient, making 16 of 25 field goal attempts, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, and converting 9 of 11 free throws. She also contributed nine rebounds and four assists to help the No. 18 Fighting Irish improve to 3-0 on the season.

Next up for Notre Dame is a showdown with No. 14 Michigan in Detroit on Saturday during the fourth annual Shamrock Classic. The Irish and Wolverines previously met in the Round of 32 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, where Notre Dame earned a decisive 76-55 home victory. Hidalgo was instrumental in that win as well, scoring 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

Stay tuned to ongoing coverage of Notre Dame news, notes, and opinions for more updates on Hidalgo and the Fighting Irish this season.
