Vikings QB JJ McCarthy Sends 4-Word Message to Lions, Dan Campbell

The Minnesota Vikings dropped the Detroit Lions, who were coming out of their bye week, at Ford Field on Sunday. Following the game, quarterback JJ McCarthy had a bit of fun with his vanquished opponents.

On Monday, November 3, McCarthy took to Instagram and posted a four-word message that served as a playful jab at the Lions. “Knee caps are intact,” he captioned a series of photographs from the Vikings-Lions contest.

The quarterback’s comment was a nod to a now-infamous press conference Lions head coach Dan Campbell gave in January 2021 when he was introduced as Detroit’s new leader. Campbell said:

> “Here’s what I do know, that this team is going to take on the identity of this city. And this city’s been down, and it found a way to get up. It’s found a way to overcome adversity. So this team’s going to be built on, we’re going to kick you in the teeth, all right?
> And when you punch us back, we’re going to smile at you, and when you knock us down, we’re going to get up.
> And on the way up, we’re going to bite a kneecap off.
> And we’re going to stand up, and then it’s going to take two more shots to knock us down.
> And on the way up, we’re going to take your other kneecap, and we’re going to get up, and then it’s going to take three shots to get us down.
> And when we do, we’re going to take another hunk out of you.
> Before long, we’re going to be the last one standing. That’s going to be the mentality.”

### JJ McCarthy: Hero of Vikings’ Crucial Road Win in Detroit

McCarthy has every reason to walk around with swagger after besting the Lions in Michigan—a state where the 22-year-old quarterback attended college and led the Wolverines to a national championship. He returned to the area over the weekend after missing five games (six weeks) with a high-ankle sprain.

There were considerable questions about his readiness for the NFL spotlight, especially after struggles during seven of the eight quarters he played in the team’s first two games of the 2025 season. However, McCarthy put up solid numbers against Detroit, completing 14-of-25 passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed for a score and made a crucial third-down conversion on a pass to wide receiver Jalen Nailor late in the fourth quarter, sealing the three-point victory.

### Vikings Playing With New Energy, Says McCarthy

Following the game, McCarthy spoke to Tom Rinaldi of FOX Sports about a new energy in Minnesota after the Vikings’ 3-4 start to the year. This boost in spirit is something the team will desperately need, especially with the toughest schedule in the league looming over the final 10 games, including road matchups like the recent game against the Lions.

“Obviously, a lot of excitement … and I’m just so proud of the guys,” McCarthy said during the postgame interview. “We fought, we had a different energy this week, a different level of focus. But there’s a lot more we can clean up.”

He added, “We haven’t reached our potential. We haven’t even gotten close yet.”

With renewed energy and determination, the Vikings will look to build on this hard-fought win as the season progresses.

ESPN officially remains dark on YouTube TV for ‘Monday Night Football’

Monday Night Football has officially kicked off on ESPN and ABC, but YouTube TV subscribers remain in the dark. This reality became apparent late Monday evening when YouTube TV issued a statement rejecting Disney’s offer to reactivate ABC on its platform for Tuesday night’s election coverage.

If a new distribution agreement were imminent, YouTube TV likely wouldn’t have addressed programming scheduled for Tuesday night. As a result, approximately 10 million YouTube TV subscribers find themselves at a loss, unable to watch Monday Night Football between the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys.

One would have expected that the Cowboys, of all teams, would have motivated both sides to reach a new deal. Networks rarely get the chance to air “America’s Team” and capitalize on the massive ratings they bring in every week. Likewise, YouTube TV isn’t eager to alienate the many Cowboys fans who might unsubscribe and switch to a competitor’s service due to the blackout.

Unfortunately, both sides remain at an impasse over price. Disney, holding valuable live sports programming across its ESPN family of networks, is leveraging the strength of its portfolio to negotiate the highest possible per-subscriber fee. Meanwhile, YouTube TV is pushing for lower rates aligned with those secured by the largest pay-TV distributors in the country, such as Comcast and Charter.

This standoff carries serious implications. NFL games are some of the most popular and widely viewed programming on television—especially when the Dallas Cowboys are playing. The fact that an agreement hasn’t been reached in time for Monday Night Football appears to confirm reports that both sides remain “far apart” on price.

Looking ahead, next Monday’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles promises to be one of the most important games in the NFC this season. Missing one NFL game already sends a strong message that both sides are serious. Missing a second, featuring two Super Bowl contenders, would signal even more significant and potentially long-term issues.

Despite Monday’s blackout on YouTube TV, it’s still more likely than not that the two sides will reach an agreement relatively soon. Disney stands to lose roughly $5 million each day without access to the YouTube TV platform. Conversely, YouTube TV risks losing subscribers each day that Disney-owned networks remain unavailable.

There is clear motivation on both sides to resolve this dispute. The real question is: how long will paying customers be left holding the bag?

New York City’s mayoral election: Letters to the Editor — Nov. 4, 2025

The Issue: New York City’s Mayoral Election Sparks Heated Debate

Polls currently show Zohran Mamdani in the lead as New Yorkers prepare to choose their next mayor. It is astonishing to some that the city is on the verge of electing Mamdani, who critics label as a communist and terrorist sympathizer, accusing him of being pro-crime, anti-American, antisemitic, and anti-Italian (“Turnout set for record high, giving Cuo edge,” Nov. 3).

His policies, opponents argue, have failed wherever they have been tried in the past. They question whether this “child of privilege,” who has never held a job in the private sector, truly possesses a magic formula to make them work now. As one voice reminds us, our founders warned that the greatest threat to the country is an uninformed electorate—and many feel that is precisely where we are today.
— Joseph Paino, Manhattan

Another cautionary voice urges voters, especially Gen Z, to be careful what they wish for. They recommend speaking with Cuban immigrants to understand the realities that might come with Mamdani’s leadership. Many Cubans fled their country desperate to escape communism, and they emphasize that wealthier politicians who preach equality often do so without understanding or experiencing the hardships faced by ordinary people. The warning is clear:
“There is only one thing worse than a communist running this city, and that is a communist who does not know what he’s doing.”
— Joanne Passero, Forest Hills

From Staten Island, where the vote traditionally favors Republicans, comes a plea to consider the consequences carefully. While acknowledging incumbent Andrew Cuomo’s flaws, some stress that a vote for Curtis Sliwa, rather than Cuomo, would lead to unacceptable outcomes. In their view, Cuomo is the only candidate capable of preventing what they describe as a mayor who is “an antisemitic lunatic.”
— Rob Feuerstein, Staten Island

Many New Yorkers agree that this election has never been more critical. Critics describe Mamdani as a wealthy individual who has never worked a day in his life and demonstrate open hostility toward Jews and America. Cuomo is seen by some as an arrogant failure responsible for mishandling the COVID-19 crisis and accusations of inappropriate conduct. Meanwhile, supporters highlight Curtis Sliwa’s four decades of public service at his own expense, emphasizing that he has concrete plans to improve the city. For these voters, a Sliwa vote represents hope for positive change.
— D. V. Leavy, Middle Village

Support for Sliwa is not unanimous, however. One Bronx resident compares Sliwa’s recent conduct to that of a spoiled child refusing to accept an umpire’s call, leading to his team forfeiting a championship—urging Sliwa to resign and support Cuomo instead.
— Tom McBride, The Bronx

A New Jersey voter weighs in, noting that while Mamdani’s followers imagine a “day of reckoning” with promises of free benefits, the reality under Cuomo has been very different. The frustration over Cuomo’s failure to accept his primary loss and Sliwa’s chances has led them to dub the coming election day as a “day of ‘wreck’-oning.”
— Storm Destro, Bayonne, NJ

To Republicans living in New York City, there is an acknowledgment of the usual feelings of helplessness during elections. Despite reluctance to compromise principles, some argue the stakes are too high to let a socialist propagandist assume the mayor’s office. While not explicitly endorsing a candidate, the sentiment is clear: rejecting Mamdani is essential for the city’s future.
— Bo Madden, Jupiter, Fla.

Finally, a voice from Lakewood, New Jersey, draws wisdom from the popular TV show “Rhoda,” reminding New Yorkers that this election may be their last chance to choose wisely:
“Hey, New York, this is your last chance!”

They warn: Mamdani will destroy the city, and those endorsing him remain indifferent to the everyday lives of residents once they retreat to their gated homes guarded by security.
— Joe Tama, Lakewood, NJ

As New Yorkers cast their ballots, the city stands at a crossroads, with passionate opinions on all sides about who can best lead the city forward.

Palantir Q3: Great Business, Uninvestable Stock

**Palantir Q3: Great Business, Uninvestable Stock**

### Summary

Palantir Technologies delivered exceptional Q3 2025 results, with 63% year-over-year revenue growth powered by strong momentum in both commercial and government segments. PLTR’s operating leverage and cash flow are impressive, but its current market capitalization reflects a “bubblicious” 120x Price-to-Sales multiple, warranting caution.

Despite raising long-term growth assumptions, my updated fair value estimate is $57 per share—far below the current ~$207 price—implying significant downside. I reiterate a **Strong Sell** rating on PLTR due to its poor long-term risk/reward, despite admiring the underlying business fundamentals.

Diplo Posts Selfie With Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau After Joking He Dated Them Both

Diplo is continuing the joke about his alleged romances with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and pop star Katy Perry by sharing a new selfie featuring his two “former lovers.” The DJ and producer posted a selfie with Trudeau sitting beside him and Perry visible in the background, captioning the photo “the one that got away” — a playful nod to Perry’s 2010 hit single.

Earlier this month, during an appearance on *Smart Girl Dumb Questions* on October 7, Diplo ignited rumors about his relationships with Perry and Trudeau. When asked about their romance, the 45-year-old humorously claimed he had dated both. “Oh, I did date Trudeau too,” Diplo said jokingly. “That was a weird one though, because I’m not into politicians.”

While Diplo may not be into politicians, Perry apparently is. In September, the singer and Trudeau were spotted embracing on her yacht near Santa Barbara. According to a witness, Perry “pulled up her boat next to a small public whale-watching boat, then they started making out.” Photos shared by the *Daily Mail* show the singer in swimwear, locking lips and sharing an embrace with Trudeau.

Rumors about a possible romance first surfaced in July when the two were seen dining together in Montreal before taking a stroll around Mount Royal Park. By August, sources claimed their budding relationship had cooled due to their busy schedules. “She’s busy, he’s busy,” a source told the *Daily Mail*. “They have a lot going on, and the newness has worn off.”

“But there’s nothing negative about it,” the insider added. “They just aren’t in constant communication anymore. That could change, but for now, it is what it is — things have cooled off.”

Samsung monthly updates: November 2025 security patch details

With the One UI 8.0 rollout nearly complete for most eligible devices, Samsung is shifting its focus back to regular security updates. The company has already published details of this month’s security patch for Galaxy devices a little earlier than usual.

The November 2025 patch addresses a total of 25 vulnerabilities discovered in the Android operating system. Among these, two are classified as critical-risk, while the remainder are marked as high-risk. One of the critical vulnerabilities affects Android versions dating back to Android 13, whereas the other impacts only Android 16. Notably, no moderate or low-risk vulnerabilities have been resolved in this release.

In addition to Android OS fixes, Samsung has included nine patches for vulnerabilities found in its own software that affect only Galaxy devices. The update also addresses 11 security flaws related to the company’s Exynos chips, which are used in both smartphones and wearables. Most Exynos chips manufactured from 2019 through 2024 appear to have been potentially affected.

As of November 3, Samsung has not yet released any software updates containing the November 2025 security patch for its devices. However, this is expected to change soon. As usual, only devices on Samsung’s monthly security maintenance schedule are guaranteed to receive this patch. For models on quarterly or biannual schedules, availability will depend on when they last received a security update.

Some devices may also receive the November 2025 patch bundled with the One UI 8.0 update.

To check for updates manually, go to your device’s **Settings > Software update** menu and tap **Download and install**.

Craig Melvin reveals unexpected truth about Today show in shocking on-air confession

Craig Melvin made a surprising on-air confession on Monday as he sat down to co-host the fourth hour of the Today show with his co-star, Jenna Bush Hager. This marked Craig’s first time at the Jenna & Friends desk, which has seen a slew of celebrity guest hosts since Hoda Kotb exited the show in January to spend more time with her young daughters.

Craig, who replaced Hoda in the show’s first two hours, admitted to the former First Daughter that he had never watched Jenna & Friends, despite working on Today for years.

“This is a nice set,” Craig said as he sat down at the desk beside Jenna. “You know, I’ve never seen the show.”

Jenna then declared, “That is so rude!”

The father of two explained that he never had the chance, as he was just finishing up on the third hour when she began.

“Did you just hear him say he’s never watched the show?” Jenna asked the producers, before Craig interjected, “No, because I’m usually in transit, but this is nice.”

The blonde beauty then pointed out, “Here’s the thing about it. It’s a full hour,” to which her co-star replied, “I know, I could probably watch some of it.”

On Monday, Craig hosted the first two hours of Today with Savannah Guthrie, before jumping to the third hour with Sheinelle Jones, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer, followed by his stint with Jenna in the fourth hour.

The veteran star took a moment to praise the mom of three for her work on Jenna & Friends, which has seen a revolving door of guest hosts since Hoda left in January.

“What you have managed to do over the last few months on this show, from just a purely broadcasting perspective, as the kids would say, real recognize real,” he said. “To be able to sit next to someone different every day or two and do this, that’s a feat. Listen, we’ve both been in the business long enough to know you sit next to people you don’t really like a lot.”

“No, I like everybody!” Jenna responded.

“That’s the truth. I’ve kind of fallen in love with. We’ve had 57 first dates.”

Craig then laughed that he was the 58th choice for guest-hosting duties, quipping, “It’s taken 58 friends to finally be like, ‘You know, there’s a guy who literally has a dressing room across the street.'”

Fans couldn’t get enough of the dynamic duo and took to Today’s Instagram page to share the love.

“Craig Melvin!! A breath of fresh air! Please ask him to host again!!!” said one fan, while another added, “So glad to finally have Craig on!”

A third chimed in, “Love both of you! Jenna and Craig nailed it today,” while a fourth wrote, “Can never get enough Craig! Would love to see more of Jenna as well! Love you all!”

Craig shared his thoughts on Jenna & Friends in an Instagram video after wrapping Monday’s episode, admitting, “This was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.”

When asked if he would consider another guest stint, he responded, “No, no, no. I think moderation’s key. It’s a lot of fun. You get to flex different muscles.”

Also joining Jenna on Today’s fourth hour this week is Michelle Obama on Tuesday, followed by Dylan Dreyer on Wednesday and Friday, and Carson Daly on Thursday.

La Jolla High boys beach volleyball: Blocks at the net and running commentary

A Persistent Mental Image: Zepher Smith Soars Above the Net

LA JOLLA — A persistent mental image of 6-foot-3 Zepher Smith leaping at the net and seemingly disappearing into the stratosphere above sticks with volleyball fans. The La Jolla High School senior has, time and again, gone forward in beach volleyball matches to block his opponent’s hit at crucial moments.

The most critical of these moments came during the Vikings’ finals appearance on October 23 against the dominant Torrey Pines team, the eventual winner of the tournament. Smith and his partner, fellow senior Chase Ostrom, split their first two games against Cullen Gibson and Cruz Acers—a name so perfect, it almost sounds made up.

In the third and deciding game, the Viking pair went on a decisive run, taking the set 15-6. It was the only match the La Jolla side won that day.

“He can touch 11 feet from a standing position,” says La Jolla High School associate head coach Dave Jones, a long-time participant in the local volleyball scene, referring to the leaping Zepher, who always plays wearing a cap.

Smith is lanky and wiry. One action photo from La Jolla’s 5-0 win over Classical Academy in the semifinals captures his heavily developed shoulder muscles straining as he dives into the sand to dig a ball. Boys’ volleyball, still considered a club sport waiting for official sanction, continues to grow in the area.

Team Dynamics and Atmosphere at “The Pit”

Another notable feature of this fall’s march to the Division II finals has been junior Nate Dickinson’s running commentary of teammates’ moves. As he warms up alongside the courts at “The Pit,” La Jolla’s home away from home located in South Mission Beach opposite the Giant Dipper roller coaster in Belmont Park, Dickinson’s energetic observations add flavor to matches.

“Zepher with a block,” the diminutive Dickinson, who stands 5’5” and partners with Mercan Findikoglu on the Vikings’ fives pair, announces to no one in particular, drawing either chuckles or resigned tolerance from his teammates.

“Adam with a set from another world,” Nate intones about senior Grushkevich, a four-year indoor volleyball veteran who partners with classmate Sonny Wiczynski this season.

“We’ve been playing together since the third or fourth grade,” says Sonny. “He kept playing, and I took some time away, then we played together again. We went to the same elementary school, then Muirlands Middle School.”

This highlights the sheer veteran experience of the Vikings’ lineup—how long they have each been playing, and how that experience has paid off in their successful run this year. They’ve faced teams that are only in their second year of existence, like Madison, or squads slowly gaining their track record on the sand, such as La Jolla Country Day.

Looking Ahead: A Search for a Home Court

Among La Jolla’s present challenges is trying to find a home court closer to campus for both the boys’ and girls’ beach volleyball teams. Currently, players must make the long trek down to South Mission Beach for matches and practice.

“The option to talk with Muirlands’ administration seems more possible at this point,” said boys’ assistant coach Cantrell Schlecht on October 21.

Earlier in the season, Schlecht had mentioned that nearby Bishop’s School has purchased a church property near Kate Sessions Elementary School. La Jolla might consider discussing shared space with them or with Muirlands Middle School about playing on campus, especially since baseball already utilizes the diamond at Muirlands.

As the Vikings continue to grow and develop their beach volleyball program, securing a closer home court would be a significant step forward in supporting both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
