I’ve always divided London into two dining realms. With Covent Garden as the provisional center, restaurants that are showy and posh lie to the west, while going east brings more focus on food.

That’s my rule of thumb, at least within the maximum range of my long walks — the seven-mile span between Chelsea and Hackney.
