The next trip to space for Boeing’s beleaguered Starliner spacecraft won’t have a crew on board after NASA announced changes to the commercial crew contract that also slashes the total number of missions to the International Space Station. NASA on Monday announced the update to the 2014 contract that originally called for six operational crewed flights to the station after completing both a successful uncrewed and crewed flight test. Now, the contract reduces that total to four missions, although the remaining two will be available as options. The move comes after Starliner’s last flight in June 2024, which flew to the station with two NASA astronauts for what was supposed to be as short as an eight-day stay on board. But issues with its thrusters and helium leaks on its propulsion module led to NASA opting to send the spacecraft home without a crew, who ended up having to remain on board the station and be flown home on a SpaceX Dragon instead nearly 10 months after their arrival. “After a thorough evaluation, NASA and Boeing have mutually agreed to modify the contract,” NASA posted in a press release. Instead of trying to fly with a crew, the mission Starliner-1 will be used to deliver cargo. It will also allow NASA and Boeing to sign off on the fixes implemented since the problematic crew flight test. “NASA and Boeing are continuing to rigorously test the Starliner propulsion system in preparation for two potential flights next year,” said NASA’s Commercial Crew Program Manager Steve Stich. “This modification allows NASA and Boeing to focus on safely certifying the system in 2026, execute Starliner’s first crew rotation when ready, and align our ongoing flight planning for future Starliner missions based on station’s operational needs through 2030.” That mission is targeting a launch date of no earlier than April 2026. The spacecraft will be atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 41. If all goes well, Starliner will be allowed to fly up to three crewed missions to the space station, sharing duties with SpaceX, which is currently in the midst of its 11th operational crew mission, all flown since 2020. SpaceX and Boeing originally shared the commercial crew contracts awarded in 2014, with Boeing seen originally as the more reliable choice, but Starliner ran into major issues trying to get its uncrewed flight test complete and SpaceX has sinced surged ahead. The first crewed Dragon mission to make it to the station docked in May 2020, returning orbital human spaceflight missions to the United States for the first time in nearly nine years after the end of the Space Shuttle Program in 2011.

Boston International shuts out Hopedale to win Div. 5 title, make history
Players and fans braved the rain on Saturday to witness Boston International take home the MIAA boys soccer Division 5 state championship with a 2-0 victory over Hopedale. This makes the school the first Boston City League team to win a boys soccer title. “Means a lot,” said Boston International head coach Edmar Varela. “I don’t think any other team earned it more than we did.” Boston International pushed Hopedale all game, staying in control and keeping its opponents on their toes. Despite working hard to keep the Lions at bay, Hopedale couldn’t seem to match up offensively. Both teams started strong in the first half. While Boston International moved the ball several yards at a time, Hopedale responded with a strong defense that kept the Lions at bay for the majority of the first half. However, the Lions delivered just before the end of the first half, with Syberto Brevil scoring the game’s first goal with an assist from Xavier Arriola. “(Xavier) is a team player. His vision is second to none,” said Varela. “These guys, you can never be surprised at what they do. We have a group of athletes . and Syberto’s one of them. He has an incredible shot.” The defensive battle continued through the first 33 minutes of the second half, but Boston International’s Henrich Saint delivered a key insurance goal to double the lead with just about seven minutes remaining. As Hopedale raced against the clock to recover, time just wasn’t on its side. BINCA held onto their 2-0 lead and carried it to victory. Coach Varela is proud of his team’s growth and teamwork this season, something that’s led them to this win. “It’s amazing to see the progress,” he said. “Individually, they’ve always been very solid but playing as a team is the hardest thing. Trinity Rodman focused on fight for NWSL title as departure rumors swirl
SAN JOSE, Calif. Spirit star forward Trinity Rodman on Thursday did her best to shut down speculation regarding her NWSL future as she tries to remain laser focused on Saturday’s championship match against Gotham FC. Rodman reportedly has received several lucrative international offers from top European clubs, but she said “no decisions” have been made regarding her impending free agency. She said it hasn’t even crossed her mind that Saturday’s game potentially could be her last in the NWSL. “I’m not there at all,” Rodman said. “There could be conversations being had, but right now I am so excited to be representing the Spirit. I’m not even thinking of when my last game will be. But yeah, I just want to win it and we’ll see.” Rodman is at the center of what could be a pivotal moment in league history as the NWSL’s salary cap restraints could result in an exodus of star players leaving for better compensation elsewhere. The Athletic reported that DC Power, of the Gainbridge Super League, presented Rodman with a “significantly larger” contract than what the Spirit or NWSL can compete against under the current salary cap restrictions. NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman was peppered with salary cap-related questions during her hourlong press conference. She said the league’s salary cap had “almost quadrupled” over the past four seasons as the league’s popularity and revenue streams grew. But she didn’t seem to entertain the idea of softening the NWSL’s current hard cap, which was set at $3. 5 million per club this season. “It’s hard to say” whether the salary cap was an appropriate mechanism for the NWSL at this time, according to Rodman. “In women’s sports, there’s always this fight for equal pay, to get paid more for the work that we do,” Rodman said. “But again, I’m 23 years old. I’m not going to try to completely change the league and fix that. But at the same time, yeah, we’re always going to push and strive for more.” Still, Berman remains steadfast about keeping Rodman in the league. “We want Trinity in the NWSL, and we will fight for her,” Berman said. “And we are excited to see her compete in the championship on Saturday.” Rodman, 23, was flattered by Berman’s comments and has been happy since starting her professional career in the NWSL in 2021. “But at the same time, like, I don’t want to put that pressure on myself of because she said that now, I’m like, ‘Oh, shoot, I’m trapped,’ ” Rodman said. “Again, I’m focused on this weekend, and that’s really all I can focus on. Travelers without REAL IDs could face more problems at airports as TSA proposes new compliance
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Without a REAL ID, air travelers could soon have a real problem. Since May, airports in California have been asking passengers for the federally approved identification at security checkpoints. “Travelers 18 years and older now need to have a Real ID or other acceptable form of identification to go through security screening,” said Vickie Calderon, a media and public relations officer at the Fresno-Yosemite International Airport. On Wednesday, the TSA proposed another option: if you don’t have an ID that they accept, you can pay $18 as a workaround. The TSA has proposed a biometric kiosk system as an option to verify identity if a traveler does not have a Real ID but pays the fee. The payment would be valid for 10 days for domestic travel. The TSA says it’s the next step in REAL ID compliance, first signed into law 20 years ago to heighten safety in airports. “I do think it makes sense. Only because it’s so easy to get a driver’s license. And they last for a really long time,” said Roger Schreiner, who was travelling through Fresno’s airport on Wednesday. Other travelers Action News spoke to on Wednesday were concerned that the new system may cause problems. “It definitely would cause holdups,” said Kelli Davenport, who is visiting family in Fresno. “I already have my REAL ID, so I don’t think it would impact me. But for others. I think that could hinder them. Especially with the fee. Additionally, the agency said biometric screening is not a guarantee that all identities will be verified. Travelers could face additional security measures and encounter delays. After announcing the proposal on Wednesday, the TSA reminded Americans that this newest compliance with REAL ID has been in the works for decades. “This notice serves as a next step in the process in REAL ID compliance, which was signed into law more than 20 years ago and finally implemented by Secretary Noem as of May 2025. TSA is working with stakeholders and partners to ensure both security and efficiency at our checkpoints. Additional guidance will be announced in the coming days,” said the agency.
