Photo Shows North Korea’s New Nuclear-Powered Sub as Kim Tests Missiles

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un observed the test-firing of a long-range surface-to-air missile shortly before visiting the construction site of a nearly 9,000-ton nuclear-powered submarine on Wednesday.

During his visit, Kim remarked that South Korea also plans to build a nuclear-powered submarine, which would “worsen” regional stability, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. Newsweek reached out to the U.S. State Department via submission form on Wednesday evening for comment.

**Why It Matters**

North Korea continues to develop weapons despite United Nations sanctions targeting its nuclear and ballistic missile programs—both of which remain destabilizing forces in the region. In October, the Hermit Kingdom unveiled a missile allegedly capable of striking far-range targets. North Korean officials claim the Hwasong-20 missile could hit the continental United States, although this capability has yet to be demonstrated.

**What To Know**

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s state-run news agency, published striking photos of Kim touring the construction site of the 8,700-ton submarine. Flanked by workers and officials, Kim examined the vessel, which is part of the country’s broader effort to modernize its navy. This initiative is one of five key policies the ruling party is pursuing to enhance its defense capabilities, according to KCNA.

Kim also oversaw the test of new missiles designed to improve the country’s capacity to produce advanced missile types. The missile demonstrated reportedly has a range of up to 124 miles.

During his visit to the submarine construction site, Kim emphasized that such developments are necessary in a world that is “by no means peaceful.” He further stated that North Korea has no choice but to develop these capabilities in response to South Korea’s plans to build a similar vessel, which he described as a “threat to its security that must be countered.”

Kim added, “The DPRK regards it as an offensive act severely violating its security and maritime sovereignty.”

**What People Are Saying**

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this month commented on border security:
“We have one of the strongest borders anywhere in the world. There’s one country that probably has a stronger border. North Korea has a stronger border. North Korea has seven walls of wire. Each of them has a million volts of electricity going through it. So if you get over one, you’re dead the next one. If you get over one, you’re in very bad shape. If you get over two, you’ve set a record. I think we give North Korea the safest border. But ours is pretty safe.”

This latest missile and submarine development underscores ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and highlights the challenges facing regional security amid continued weapons advancements by North Korea.

Kim Kardashian endorses conspiracy theory about 1969 moon landing: ‘I think it was fake’

Kim Kardashian Endorses Moon Landing Conspiracy Theory on “The Kardashians”

During Thursday’s episode of “The Kardashians” on Hulu, Kim Kardashian, 45, sparked controversy by suggesting that the 1969 moon landing was fake. On the show, she attempted to convince her “All’s Fair” co-star Sarah Paulson, 50, of her belief.

“I’m sending you, so far, a million interviews with both Buzz Aldrin and… the other one [Neil Armstrong],” Kardashian said to Paulson on the set of the new Ryan Murphy series.

Paulson responded, “Yes, do it.”

Kardashian then shared a perplexing quote she claimed was from Buzz Aldrin, 95: “This girl says, ‘What was the scariest moment?’ And [Aldrin] goes, ‘There was no scary moment, cause it didn’t happen. It could’ve been scary, but it wasn’t, cause it didn’t happen.’”

The SKIMS founder speculated that Aldrin “has gotten old” and might be slipping up about the moon landing. “So I think it didn’t happen,” Kardashian admitted.

Intrigued, Paulson told Kardashian she was going on a “massive deep dive” to investigate these claims.

Reiterating her stance during a confessional in her trailer, Kardashian said, “I don’t think we did. I think it was fake. I’ve seen a few videos [of] Buzz Aldrin talking about how it didn’t happen. He says it all the time now, in interviews.”

She even suggested involving her sister Khloe Kardashian by having Aldrin on her podcast. “Maybe we should find Buzz Aldrin,” she remarked while scrolling on her phone.

Kardashian continued voicing typical moon landing conspiracy questions: “Why does Buzz Aldrin say it didn’t happen? There’s no gravity on the moon, why is the flag blowing? The shoes that they have in the museum that they wore on the moon is a different print than the photos. Why are there no stars?”

When a producer asked her what she would say to people calling her crazy for these theories, Kardashian replied, “They’re gonna say I’m crazy no matter what. But like, go to TikTok. See for yourself.”

The Post has reached out to Aldrin’s representatives for comment.

### The Truth Behind Aldrin’s Comments

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first two people to walk on the moon during the historic Apollo 11 mission. The third crew member, Michael Collins, remained in lunar orbit aboard the command module and did not walk on the moon.

The comments from Aldrin that Kardashian referenced actually come from a 2015 interview and have been widely taken out of context, fueling conspiracy theories.

When asked about the “scariest moment” of the journey during an event, Aldrin simply replied that a scary moment “didn’t happen.” In another misinterpreted clip, a young girl asked Aldrin why no one has returned to the moon for so long, to which he responded, “Because we didn’t go there anymore.”

### Aldrin’s Recent Reflections

In July, Aldrin marked the 56th anniversary of the moon landing on social media with a heartfelt post.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“July 20, 1969. ‘Contact light, engine stop.’ The Apollo 11 lunar module Eagle touched down at Tranquility Base on the Moon. A few hours later, Neil Armstrong and I stepped foot on the Moon, with Michael Collins orbiting close-by.”

He added, “An achievement resulting from years of incalculable effort, commitment, and team work.”

Kim Kardashian’s recent comments have reignited discussions around moon landing conspiracy theories, despite overwhelming evidence and expert confirmations verifying that the historic Apollo 11 mission was genuine.
