J.T. Miller’s overtime goal delivers Rangers thrilling comeback win over Oilers

Rangers Rally to Defeat Oilers 4-3 in Overtime

EDMONTON — The New York Rangers tapped into their resilient DNA Thursday night, as J.T. Miller scored just 2:48 into overtime to complete a thrilling comeback and secure a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Surviving an Edmonton power play in overtime that carried over from the final seconds of regulation, the Rangers earned their second consecutive win and improved to 2-1 on their current road trip.

Third Period Surge

The Rangers found their legs late in the game, scoring twice in the third period to tie it up at 3-3. Braden Schneider opened the scoring for New York by cleaning up a loose puck off a drive from Will Cuylle, cutting the deficit to one goal.

Shortly after, Taylor Raddysh netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 12:04 mark, whipping the puck past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner to even the score.

Brodzinski’s Early Impact

Jonny Brodzinski, skating in just his second straight game after being a healthy scratch eight times this season, scored his first goal of the year to put the Rangers ahead initially. The veteran forward intercepted a puck at the blue line and finished his breakaway with a backhand shot.

The Oilers responded quickly, with Darnell Nurse firing a one-timer from the circle that beat Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin, tying the game at 1-1.

Second Period Advantage for Oilers

Edmonton dominated much of the second period, outshooting New York 14-8, and carried a two-goal lead into the final frame.

Just as the Oilers’ power play expired at 10:24 of the middle period, Matt Savoie scored his first NHL goal, converting a bouncing rebound off his leg in front of the Rangers’ net.

Nurse later redirected a shot that Shesterkin initially appeared to save, but upon video review, officials confirmed the puck crossed the goal line, giving Nurse his second goal of the night and extending Edmonton’s lead to 3-1.

Power Play Struggles Continue

Despite the victory, the Rangers continue to show a lack of finish during five-on-five play and their power play woes persist. New York went 0-for-2 on the man advantage against Edmonton, marking their third straight game and ninth this season without scoring a power play goal.

Before Thursday’s game, the Blueshirts held the fifth-lowest power play percentage in the NHL at 14.3%. After this outing, they are now 4-for-30 on the season.

With their comeback win secured, the Rangers will look to build on this momentum as their road trip continues.
