Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection launches to mixed reviews on Steam

**Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection – A Rocky Revival**

*Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection* should have been an easy win for fans of the iconic fighting series. This bundle brings together the first four Mortal Kombat games, including the long-lost WaveNet version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Additionally, it features less fondly remembered spin-offs like *Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero*, included for the sake of completeness—and a touch of meme culture.

Beyond the games themselves, the collection offers an interactive documentary delving into the history of this famously gory franchise, reminiscent of *The Making of Karateka*. On paper, it sounds like the ultimate Mortal Kombat package.

**But the reality has been far from perfect.**

Within days of its release, the Kollection garnered a 55% negative rating on Steam. Many players reported excessive input lag that affects gameplay even offline. One reviewer noted, *“Input lag is unacceptably high in every game—even offline,”* while others complained that lag was noticeable even in the menus.

Online play has also been a major sticking point. Players lament the current state of multiplayer, describing it as a fractured experience. One user explained, *“The online’s in a terrible state. Quick play matches with random people only. You can’t queue for more than one game at a time, so the community’s splintered between games.”* Another fan pointed out that *“The 360/PS3 MK Kollection that came out over 10+ years ago had better netcode than this.”*

The frustrations don’t end with lag and online play. The in-game AI has also come under fire. A particularly humorous complaint read, *“Since half of the match is just the enemy social distancing and staying 6 feet away from me, God forbid Mileena gets ******** covid.”*

**Looking Ahead: Improvements on the Way**

Developer Digital Eclipse has acknowledged player concerns and promised updates. According to their FAQ, a new feature called **Online Arcade** will be added in a post-launch update. This system will allow players to create lobbies, handpick participants, and rotate games to suit their private group’s preferences.

They shared, *“In the weeks following launch, we will add Online Arcade, a system where you can create lobbies, choose the players, and rotate games for the tastes of your private group of friends. We’re finalizing the UI details on these features now.”*

While these improvements may help mend some of the initial shortcomings, fans will be watching closely to see if the *Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection* can truly live up to its potential and legacy.
