Bears Give Grim Update on Rookie Who Suffered Injury vs. Giants

The Chicago Bears pulled out a 24-20 win over the New York Giants on Sunday in front of their home crowd. However, before securing the victory, the team provided a grim update on the injury status of fourth-round rookie linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II.

Hyppolite exited in the third quarter of Week 10’s game — his first active game since September — due to a knee injury. Initially designated as “questionable” by the team, his status was later updated to out for the remainder of the game after about 40 minutes. The Bears’ communications team confirmed the update on X during Sunday’s game, stating:
“#Bears LB Ruben Hyppolite II (Knee) has been downgraded to OUT.”

Bears head coach Ben Johnson acknowledged Hyppolite’s knee injury during his postgame press conference but did not provide further details on the extent of the injury. Notably, the coach did not receive any questions from the press regarding Hyppolite’s current status.

This knee injury is a tough break for the rookie linebacker. Hyppolite had played 18 defensive snaps and 62 special teams snaps across the first four games of the season. However, after veteran T. J. Edwards returned following Week 5’s bye, Hyppolite was a healthy scratch for four consecutive games before finally seeing action again on Sunday against the Giants.

The Bears may share more details about Hyppolite’s injury during Coach Johnson’s media availability on Monday. Otherwise, fans will have to wait for the Wednesday injury report ahead of Chicago’s Week 11 road game against the Minnesota Vikings for the next official update.

The Bears (6-3) will square off against the Vikings (4-5) in a rematch at 1 p.m. ET next Sunday.

Villanova Flushes the Royals, Defeats Queens NC 94-74

After a tough loss in the opener against BYU on Monday, the Wildcats bounced back with a convincing win over Queens University of Charlotte. Villanova never trailed throughout the game, with their largest lead reaching 22 points.

Leading the Wildcats in scoring once again was sophomore guard Bryce Lindsay, who poured in 25 points along with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. While Lindsay wasn’t as effective from beyond the arc, he compensated by going 10-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Freshman guard Acaden Lewis recovered nicely from his rough debut, scoring 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. He also contributed 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 35 minutes of play, impressively committing no turnovers.

Lewis wasn’t the only freshman to step up after their first collegiate game. Freshman Matthew Hodge dominated inside, going 8-for-10 from the field on his way to 18 points. This interior strength was a major theme for Villanova, as they outscored the Royals 62-38 in the paint.

Leading the paint dominance was senior center Duke Brennan, who had a monster game with 17 points and 20 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards. Brennan has been a consistent presence inside for Villanova on both ends of the floor.

The Wildcats were once again short-handed, playing without junior forward Zion Stanford (ankle) and freshman guard Chris Jeffrey, who suffered an ankle injury in practice on Friday.

Queens University was led by senior Nasir Mann, who scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Villanova was effective in limiting Royals’ standout Chris Ashby, who managed only 11 points on just 5 shot attempts.

Villanova’s next opponent is Sacred Heart, with the game scheduled for Tuesday night at the Finneran Pavilion.

Lamar Jackson Warns Ravens After 3rd-Straight Win

Three straight wins and a victory in his 100th NFL start aren’t enough to make Lamar Jackson completely satisfied. The star quarterback has sent a clear warning to his Baltimore Ravens teammates about maintaining momentum after their 27-19 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10.

Speaking after the game at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, November 9, Jackson told reporters, including ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, “There’s still a lot of ball left, you know? You gotta stay locked in. You can’t get complacent or nothing like that, you gotta stay locked in.” While addressing the media, Jackson’s message was really aimed at his own team— a tacit warning not to get too buoyed by their recent mini revival.

This is a timely message from the team’s key playmaker and natural leader. Jackson knows the suddenly red-hot Ravens can go much further than their current 4-5 record. If they do, it will be thanks in large part to the continued excellence of the two-time NFL MVP, who’s thriving back at the controls of their offense.

### Lamar Jackson Powering Ravens’ Revival

Even though Jackson threw for only one touchdown—a two-yarder to All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews in the fourth quarter—he underlined his value to the Ravens in multiple ways. He rushed nine times for 36 yards and, more importantly, stayed efficient against pressure from the Vikings defense.

Jackson was always going to be under siege from a Vikings defense designed and called by Brian Flores. Known as one of the most creative and blitz-happy defensive coordinators in the league, Flores lived up to his reputation by sending extra rushers after Jackson early and often.

Fortunately for the Ravens, No. 8 adapted his game brilliantly to beat the blitz. The Vikings blitzed Jackson on 58% of his dropbacks Sunday—the 5th-highest rate of his career. Jackson reacted by getting the ball out of his hands quickly, averaging only 4.1 air yards per attempt, which was his lowest average in a game with 20+ attempts in his career, according to ESPN Research cited by Hensley.

Leaning into the quick game was how Jackson found a way to win. This approach has defined his century of starts in the pros, even if Baltimore’s QB1 wasn’t fully aware of his own career milestone.

### Lamar Jackson Not Focused on History

Jackson told Hensley he didn’t “know anything about” this being his 100th start, “but it’s cool to get a win on the 100th start, that’s pretty dope.” Whether or not Jackson was as oblivious to history as he claims, he remains the player who largely determines whether the Ravens win or lose. He’s also the player who safeguards the fate of head coach John Harbaugh.

Jackson has faced pressure earlier this season, but Harbaugh knows when Jackson is healthy, anything is possible. Perhaps that’s why Harbaugh proclaimed after the win in Minnesota, “In his mind, he’s just beginning,” as reported by Hensley.

Harbaugh had better hope so, because Jackson staying upright and on form is still the best chance for the coach—who has led the team since 2008—to finally deliver another championship.

### Looking Ahead: Staying Locked In

Talk of a title remains nothing but hot air for this season’s Ravens, who first have to get firmly back into playoff contention. It’s why Jackson, the man most responsible for making that happen, is letting his teammates know they can’t rest on their laurels after rebounding from four straight losses.

Staying locked in, maintaining focus, and continuing this revival will be key for Baltimore as they aim to turn momentum into sustained success down the stretch of the season.

Compiled by Wombat-socho

Well, that closes out the appalling month of April. Once again, the Polo Grounds were a pit of despair as the Yankees beat us like a rented mule in three straight games. Then, we came home to RFK and lost two out of three to the Reds. Hopefully, May will be better.

Fire crews continue battle at massive UMass apartment blaze

A massive apartment complex fire displaced more than 200 Amherst residents this weekend, leaving a major cleanup job and the community reeling.

### Fire Origin and Spread

The fire originated at an under-construction building located at 47 Olympia Drive. Due to its proximity, intensity, and wind conditions, the blaze quickly spread to the nearby building at 57 Olympia Drive. Both buildings have been deemed a total loss. Demolition efforts to aid in extinguishing the fire were expected to be completed over the weekend.

“The building is still burning,” Amherst Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgen told the Herald Sunday morning. “We can’t fully extinguish this because of its size, and in fact, we can’t get to the far side—you can see it’s the woods. The only way we can actually put all of the fire out is to tear it down.”

### Impact and Evacuations

No injuries were reported in the massive blaze, but around 230 residents—mostly UMass Amherst students—have been displaced from the complex. The State Fire Marshal, Amherst Fire Department, and Amherst Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire. However, according to the Amherst Fire Department, “the fire is not suspicious in nature.”

Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman issued a state of emergency on Saturday, urging residents to halt non-essential water use to conserve water for firefighting efforts. Fire Chief Stromgen anticipated that the state of emergency would be lifted soon as the fire department’s water needs lessened.

### University Resources and Response

UMass Amherst has compiled a dedicated webpage providing updates and resources for affected students, including information on food aid, basic needs, counseling, financial assistance, and donation opportunities. The university has placed some students in temporary on-campus residences.

“While we are incredibly relieved that no one has been injured, the Friday night fire at the Olympia Drive Apartment complex has had a significant impact on the more than 220 affected students who were displaced and lost their personal effects,” UMass President Marty Meehan said in a statement. “In recognition of that, I ask all members of the UMass community to keep these students in their thoughts and to consider supporting them directly during this difficult time.”

Meehan encouraged community members to support the Foundation Student Care and Emergency Response Fund. Additionally, a resource center has been set up on campus for affected students, and displaced residents can access dining halls for free.

“I’m deeply appreciative to Chancellor Reyes for his leadership, and thankful for all first responders, the town of Amherst, and so many others who have gone above and beyond to support our affected students and community throughout this weekend,” Meehan added. “I also wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to Governor Healey, whose consistent outreach, engagement, and partnership throughout the weekend have been an invaluable source of support to our students and the university community.”

### Fire Details and Timeline

The first 911 calls came in around 8:19 p.m. Friday, reporting a fire at the under-construction building at 47 Olympia Drive. Upon arrival, fire units found the blaze had already spread to nearby buildings.

The Amherst Fire Chief confirmed that explosions occurred at the construction site, likely caused by fuel tanks and other construction equipment. A crane also collapsed during the fire.

The construction site featured a four-story building in the framing stage—primarily wood with windows but no exterior walls or sprinkler system, according to Chief Stromgen. The building burned to the ground in about half an hour. It was situated approximately 15 feet from the 57 Olympia Drive apartment building.

Though the 57 Olympia Drive building did have a sprinkler system, Stromgen explained that these systems are designed to combat smaller fires, such as trash fires, rather than the full-scale blaze experienced here.

### Ongoing Demolition and Firefighting Efforts

On Saturday afternoon, crews began demolishing 57 Olympia Drive while the fire was still active.

“The reason that demolition is done so quickly is that the building is unstable,” Stromgen said. “There’s no way to put firefighters inside, let alone let occupants go in and get their belongings. This is totally, completely unsafe for anybody in the building.”

Remnants of the torn-down building were still smoking Sunday morning as crews worked to fully extinguish the blaze. The fire chief noted that fires continued to flare up sporadically in the still-standing units.

The entirety of the building was expected to be torn down by Sunday afternoon, with the hope that demolition and extinguishment would be completed by Monday morning. Afterward, the next steps would be turned over to the building owners.

The community continues to support the displaced residents as cleanup and recovery efforts are underway following this devastating fire. For ongoing updates and resources, please visit the UMass Amherst dedicated fire response page.

AirPods Max Are Still the Best Premium Headphones

When Apple finally updated the AirPods Max at the early 2025 AirPods event, people were excited. The original AirPods Max were among the most expensive Bluetooth headphones ever released, and despite being on the market for four years, they hadn’t seen any significant updates. Yet, the long-awaited AirPods Max 2 turned out to be only minor improvements.

Apple announced the addition of USB-C support in compliance with EU regulations, aligning the AirPods Max 2 with the rest of Apple’s product lineup. They also introduced a few new colors. However, beyond these changes, there was little else: no new design featuring lighter construction, no enhancement in noise-canceling capabilities, no audio improvements, and no changes to the core drivers. Additionally, the headphones still do not fold. Notably, Apple did not introduce a new carrying case, despite longstanding criticism of the included leather “bra”-style pouch.

For many, this made the AirPods Max 2 a disappointing release. However, if you’re an Apple user looking for headphones that feel exceptionally premium, look stunning, sound fantastic, and rival the best in noise-canceling technology, it’s hard to complain.

### Design and Build Quality

Many perceived flaws of the AirPods Max come down to design choices and compromises that set them apart from competitors. The headphones are neither as lightweight nor foldable like Bose or Sony models because Apple opts for premium materials such as brushed aluminum for the cups and buttons instead of plastics. While they lack a protective carrying case, the unique “bra” design may be less protective but is easy to slip on and convenient for everyday use.

### Controls and User Experience

One of the standout features of the AirPods Max is their intuitive control scheme. While I personally prefer the slightly more complex controls on the Nothing Headphones (1), the AirPods Max rank a close second. They utilize a version of the Apple Watch dial for play, pause, and volume controls, complemented by a second long-press button for toggling noise-canceling and transparency modes.

### Sound Quality and Performance

Though updates have been minimal, the underlying formula remains superb. The AirPods Max drivers deliver fantastic sound with a wide, bright, and vocal-centric tuning right out of the box. The sound profile is relatively balanced and neutral enough to please most listeners, despite lacking an EQ customization option.

In terms of overall sound quality, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Gen. 2 currently holds the top spot for Bluetooth headphones, provided you set aside the exceptional but less reliable $1,549 Bang & Olufsen H100. Still, the AirPods Max are competitive, and your personal taste will ultimately decide which you prefer.

### Noise Cancellation and Ambient Sound

When it comes to noise cancellation, Bose remains the undisputed leader in the market, and the AirPods Max don’t quite reach that level. However, the AirPods Max shine with the best ambient sound mode available. If you can overlook their weight, transparency mode makes it feel like you’re not even wearing headphones during conversations.

### New Features

It’s not entirely accurate to say the AirPods Max 2 received no changes. The headphones now support Lossless Audio when connected via USB-C, enabling users to take advantage of one of the best features of Apple Music.

In conclusion, while the AirPods Max 2 may not offer revolutionary updates, their premium materials, excellent sound quality, superior ambient sound mode, and seamless Apple ecosystem integration keep them a compelling choice for those invested in Apple’s products.

Browns will stick with Dillon Gabriel as their starting QB

The Browns will not change quarterbacks for their Week 11 game against the Ravens.

In a press conference following Sunday’s 27-20 loss to the Jets, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked if Dillon Gabriel will remain the team’s starter. The coach confirmed that he plans to give the rookie his sixth straight start.

“We’re gonna stick with Dillon,” Stefanski said. “Obviously this is a young player, you’re always trying to get one game better and those types of things. We have to play better as an offense, we have to coach better, all of the above.”

Gabriel completed 17-of-32 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns while being sacked six times in Sunday’s loss. Although a number of his incompletions were major misses, Stefanski is not yet ready to see what Shedeur Sanders might bring to the helm of the offense in Cleveland.
