Marvel fans may not have to wait much longer to see Thanos return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Josh Brolin brought the iconic villain to life in the MCU for several years, most notably as the main antagonist in 2018’s *Avengers: Infinity War* and 2019’s *Avengers: Endgame*. Although Thanos met his end at the conclusion of *Endgame*, the concept of the multiverse has kept the door open for his potential return in future projects.
Brolin has already reprised his role as Thanos by voicing the character in several episodes of Marvel’s *What If..?* animated series, further fueling fan speculation. So, what has Josh Brolin said about Thanos coming back to the MCU?
Speaking with *Entertainment Tonight*, Brolin addressed the possibility of returning as Thanos. He said, “If Joe Russo comes to me — which he may have, I don’t know — and has an idea, then I might acquiesce. Probably pretty quickly.”
As of now, there has been no official confirmation that Brolin will reprise his role as Thanos in any upcoming Marvel Studios projects. However, it’s worth noting that directors Joe and Anthony Russo are currently working on two new Avengers films: *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Avengers: Secret Wars*.
While Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is expected to serve as the villain in these movies, many fans anticipate a significant moment from the *Secret Wars* comics involving both Doom and Thanos could be incorporated into one of the films.
*Avengers: Doomsday* is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, followed by *Avengers: Secret Wars* on December 17, 2027. Ahead of these, *Spider-Man 4* (also known as *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*) will hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
Outside of the MCU, Josh Brolin is currently starring in Edgar Wright’s remake of *The Running Man*, which will be released in United States theaters this coming weekend. Additionally, he will reprise his role as Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve’s *Dune: Part Three*, expected to premiere in December 2026.
With Brolin open to the possibility and exciting projects on the horizon, fans remain hopeful that Thanos may indeed return to shake up the MCU once again.
