Japan Open 2025: Where to watch, TV schedule, live streaming details and more

Carlos Alcaraz will lead the field at the 2025 Japan Open in the absence of defending champion Arthur Fils, who has withdrawn from the tournament due to a back injury. The ATP 500 event kicks off with main draw action on Wednesday, September 24.

Fils had claimed the title last year by defeating compatriot Ugo Humbert in the final. Humbert, who will be seeded sixth this year, is set to return to the tournament aiming for another strong showing.

Alcaraz will begin his campaign against Sebastian Baez. His quarter of the draw also features notable players such as Frances Tiafoe and Brandon Nakashima. In the top half, other seeds include Denis Shapovalov and Casper Ruud. Shapovalov will need to be on guard against Matteo Berrettini and Jaume Munar, while Ruud could face Daniel Altmaier.

Second seed Taylor Fritz opens his run against Gabriel Diallo. His potential path includes matchups against Nuno Borges and Tomas Machac in the second round and quarterfinals respectively. Also in the bottom half are Ugo Humbert and Holger Rune, who appear poised for a possible meeting. Hamad Medjedovic and Jenson Brooksby add further depth to this section of the draw.

Japanese tennis fans will have plenty to cheer for with wildcards Yosuke Watanuki and Yoshihito Nishioka granted entry into the main draw, adding local flavor to this year’s tournament.

Looking back, before Arthur Fils, the previous two editions were won by Ben Shelton (who defeated Aslan Karatsev) and Taylor Fritz (who overcame Frances Tiafoe). It is worth noting that the tournament was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With three titles, Stefan Edberg remains the most decorated champion in Japan Open history. Other multiple-time winners include former Japanese No. 1 Kei Nishikori, Pete Sampras, and Jim Courier.
