Rams thump Cardinals to stay tied atop NFC West

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Matthew Stafford threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns, while Puka Nacua and Blake Corum both scored twice as the Los Angeles Rams dominated the Arizona Cardinals 45-17 on Sunday to stay tied for the NFC West lead.

The Rams (10-3) scored 35 unanswered points to bounce back from last week’s turnover-filled loss to the Carolina Panthers, securing their seventh win in eight games. They now share the division lead with the Seattle Seahawks and hold a one-game lead over the San Francisco 49ers.

The struggling Cardinals (3-10) have lost five straight and 10 of their past 11 games after a strong 2-0 start to the season.

Los Angeles fell into an early 7-0 hole but rallied to take a 24-10 lead by halftime. The Rams scored just before the break on a beautiful 28-yard pass from Stafford to Nacua, who had six catches for 136 yards in the first half. The Rams also found the end zone on a pair of 2-yard runs by Kyren Williams and Blake Corum.

In the first half, Los Angeles totaled 306 yards, finishing the game with 530 yards of offense.

The Rams maintained their momentum into the second half, scoring another touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Stafford to Colby Parkinson that extended their lead to 31-10.

Los Angeles capped their offensive onslaught with two quick touchdowns to start their next possession. After Nate Landman intercepted Jacoby Brissett’s pass late in the third quarter, Stafford connected with Nacua for a 31-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 38-10.

On the following drive, Corum broke free against a flat-footed Cardinals defense for a 48-yard touchdown run, putting the Rams up 45-10.

Stafford completed 22 of 31 passes. Nacua finished with 167 receiving yards, while Corum rushed for 128 yards.

The injury-depleted Cardinals struck first with a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game, thanks to a crisp five-play, 67-yard drive that culminated in Brissett’s 19-yard touchdown pass to Michael Wilson.

Wilson caught 11 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Brissett, starting his eighth straight game in place of injured starter Kyler Murray, completed 25 of 44 passes for 271 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Tight end Trey McBride had five catches for 58 yards, marking his 15th consecutive game with at least five receptions — tying the all-time mark for a tight end previously set by Travis Kelce.

Arizona has now suffered another lopsided loss to a division rival this season, following defeats to the Seahawks (44-22 in Week 10) and the 49ers (41-22 in Week 11). The Rams have won 15 of their past 18 meetings against the Cardinals.

Injuries: Rams cornerback Darious Williams (tibia) was among five inactives for the game.

Rams’ Jared Verse Sends Clear Message to Baker Mayfield Ahead of Buccaneers Game

The Los Angeles Rams are cruising, with Matthew Stafford winning five straight games while coming off an impressive win over the division rival Seattle Seahawks, resulting in Sean McVay’s squad sitting in first place in the NFC West with a record of 8-2. Although the Rams are red hot at the moment, the competition won’t get any easier heading into Week 12. Los Angeles will have to play host to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at SoFi Stadium in yet another battle of NFC heavyweights. Baker Mayfield Better Watch Out for Rams Star Jared Verse The primary focus for the Rams’ defense and star linebacker Jared Verse will be containing Mayfield on Sunday, who has resurrected his career with the Buccaneers over the last few seasons, ever since leaving Los Angeles in NFL free agency. Apparently, Verse has been wanting to face Mayfield for quite some time. “I’ve been wanting to play Baker for a very long time,” Verse said during Thursday’s media availability. “I’ve been admiring him ever since he was in college. Looking at him like, ‘Damn, I want to go up against him.’ I finally get that opportunity. I’m excited for it.” Even though he’s looking forward to facing the former Heisman Trophy winner, Verse knows he’ll have his hands full with Mayfield in Week 12, as he had high praise for his former Rams quarterback. “I think it’s just the ability that he has, the mindset of a defensive player,” stated Verse. “He’s like, ‘No matter what it takes, I’m going to make a play,’ which could be detrimental at times, but for him it’s not that. It doesn’t put him in a bad spot. Other quarterbacks, they’re doing a bunch of stuff. They’re throwing picks off that, doing all sorts of crazy things. He’s really in control when he has that ball in his hand.” Verse believes that Mayfield is the kind of quarterback who can “do it all” on the football field. “He’s a quarterback that can do it all,” Verse said. “He can run the ball. He can escape the pocket. He’s a quarterback where he’s not one of the quarterbacks who wants to run every play. He just wants to make a play, get the ball downfield and do something that can help his team. That adds its own set of problems in itself.” Even though Mayfield will likely make an impact in his game on Sunday in Los Angeles, something has to give, as it will be a potent offense going up against a stout defense. Either Verse will be celebrating his team’s ninth win of the season, or the Bucs star will have snapped a two-game skid while showing the league Tampa Bay is still hanging around. Are the Rams the Best Team in the NFC? With only two losses on the season to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and the division rival San Francisco 49ers, the Rams have proven to be one of the league’s elite teams, with NFL MVP candidate Stafford having arguably the best season of his career. Suppose the Rams can secure a sixth straight win on Sunday by getting the best of the visiting Bucs. In that case, Los Angeles may solidify itself as the best team in the NFC, with the Eagles potentially being the only team that might be able to challenge them once the NFL playoffs begin.

Rams-49ers: 5 plays that decided the outcome

The Los Angeles Rams left nothing to chance this time around when they faced off against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. The Rams (7-2) demolished the 49ers (6-4) behind another Matthew Stafford gem and a physical defensive effort. Rams legend perfectly summed it up in his postgame tweet.

LA stormed out to a 21-0 lead in the first half before San Francisco “tried” to make a comeback bid in the early second half. It wasn’t nearly enough, with the Rams making significantly more plays on both offense and defense to avenge their Week 5 loss against their rival.

But which plays sealed the deal? Here are the five game-defining moments from Los Angeles’s Week 10 win:

### 1. Nate Landman Forced Fumble (Rams 14, 49ers 0) — 3:24 left in 1st Quarter

The Rams jumped on the 49ers early, mirroring how San Francisco started against LAR in Week 5. Only this time, when the 49ers tried to throw their own counterpunch, the Rams delivered an uppercut of their own.

On 2nd & 10 at the LAR 39-yard line, Mac Jones threw a short pass to Jaquan Jennings, who picked up the first down. But Nate Landman, as he typically does, came in for a swarming tackle, using his right arm to dislodge the ball from Jennings. Kam Kinchens scooped up the loose ball and returned it to the LAR 41.

It was a huge momentum swing that allowed LA to keep their foot on the gas.

### 2. Byron Young Stops Christian McCaffrey on 4th Down (Rams 21, 49ers 0) — 8:45 left in 2nd Quarter

Byron Young stepped up with a crucial defensive stop on 4th down to keep the 49ers off the scoreboard early, maintaining the Rams’ dominant lead.

### 3. 4th & 3 Conversion from Matthew Stafford to Puka Nacua (Rams 21, 49ers 14) — 6:20 left in 3rd Quarter

To open the second half, San Francisco drove downfield and scored, narrowing the gap to a one-score game. Los Angeles responded with a critical drive but faced resistance after crossing the SF 30.

After failing to connect with Kyren Williams in the flat on 3rd & 3, head coach Sean McVay decided to go for it on 4th & 3 at San Francisco’s 28-yard line. Rather than risking a field goal or punting, McVay put the ball in the hands of his best players: Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua.

The duo didn’t disappoint, converting the crucial fourth down and keeping the drive alive.

### 4. Davante Adams Red Zone Touchdown (Rams 28, 49ers 14) — 2:39 left in 3rd Quarter

The Rams have clearly found the solution to their early-season red zone struggles. Stafford and Adams connected for the sixth time in just a three-game span.

When the Rams needed to ensure they were putting their division rivals away, they turned to their leading touchdown playmaker. Adams hauled in a touchdown pass that extended LA’s lead and shifted the momentum firmly in their favor.

### 5. Emmanuel Forbes Hauls in Interception (Rams 35, 49ers 20) — 8:29 left in 4th Quarter

Every time San Francisco tried to counterpunch Los Angeles, the Rams defense was ready.

On 4th & 4 at the SF 41-yard line, Mac Jones targeted George Kittle for the first down. But Emmanuel Forbes timed his jump perfectly, deflecting the pass and hauling in the batted ball for only the second interception of his Rams career.

Even special teams contributed some positive plays throughout the game, rounding out a complete team effort.
