Nashik police have booked 21 gang members for organizing a procession to celebrate the release of one of their members on bail from Nashik Road Central Jail. The accused, Mahesh Sonawane, was arrested on murder charges and was granted bail on September 20.

A video circulating on social media shows police parading a group of young men on the roads of Nashik. In the footage, police officers can be seen beating a boy in the presence of a large crowd gathered on the street.

According to reports, after Mahesh Sonawane was released from jail, his gang members arranged a procession to celebrate. During this rally, they created a hostile environment by obstructing traffic and threatening passersby while brandishing weapons. This unruly behaviour caused alarm among the public, prompting Nashik police to take prompt action.

The police took cognizance of the situation and recognized the seriousness of the disturbance caused by the gang members, some of whom were visible in the viral video. As a result, charges were framed against the rally participants under sections of the Indian Arms Act and relevant provisions of the Bombay Police Act (BNS).

Following these developments, 17 of the accused gang members were arrested on Monday. The Nashik police continue to investigate the matter to ensure law and order is maintained in the city.
