Body of missing CPS teacher recovered from Lake Michigan

The body of a Chicago Public Schools teacher who had been missing for more than a week was pulled from Lake Michigan on Monday, authorities confirmed.

Police recovered the body of a woman from the water in the 3100 block of South Lake Shore Drive on Chicago’s South Side just before noon, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and school officials. The woman, identified as 53-year-old Linda Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:53 p.m.

Brown was a special education teacher at Robert Healy Elementary School in Bridgeport. She had been missing since January 3, Chicago police said. Since her disappearance, family and friends had issued public pleas for her safe return and organized their own search efforts, according to multiple reports.

In the initial missing persons alert, police stated that Brown was last seen near the 4500 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in the Bronzeville neighborhood. Days later, the alert was updated to say she was sighted in the 3500 block of South Lake Park Avenue, approximately half a mile from where her body was ultimately found.

Police noted Brown may have been in need of immediate medical attention at the time. On Monday, they updated the alert again to confirm that Brown had been located but did not provide additional details.

Robert Healy Elementary Principal Erin Kamradt informed the school community of Brown’s passing in an email. “Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time,” Kamradt wrote. “We know that this loss will raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.”

The school is collaborating with the Chicago Public Schools crisis management unit to offer grief counseling and support to students and staff. Additionally, the campus’ school-based mental health professionals will be available for students needing ongoing assistance.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss,” Kamradt said. “We will do everything we can to help our school community heal.”

Attempts to reach Brown’s family were unsuccessful as of the time of the report. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Police find ‘horror movie’ of stolen bones in alleged graverobber’s home

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested for allegedly stealing dozens of bones, skulls, and human remains from a historic cemetery. Authorities revealed that Jonathan Christian Gerlach was found to have corpses hanging from the ceiling of his home during the investigation.

Gerlach was apprehended Tuesday following a months-long probe into a series of body snatchings at the 200-acre Mount Moriah Cemetery, located in the Philadelphia suburb of Yeadon. He now faces 500 criminal charges related to these grisly burglaries, which began in November.

According to police, Gerlach, 34, of Ephrata—about 90 minutes west of Philadelphia—used extreme methods such as rappelling into mausoleums and prying open underground vaults to remove human remains dating back more than a century.

Authorities tracked Gerlach after an investigator noted his vehicle plates, which showed he had been near Yeadon repeatedly during the times when the thefts occurred. On January 6, police conducting surveillance spotted his car inside the cemetery. Gerlach was seen exiting the grounds carrying a crowbar and a burlap bag. Bones and skulls were visible inside his vehicle when he was taken into custody.

Gerlach allegedly admitted to stealing approximately 30 sets of human remains from Mount Moriah Cemetery and described how he accessed the burial sites.

“In my 30-year career, this is probably one of the most horrific things,” said Yeadon Borough Police Chief Henry Giammarco. “There was an infant among the remains, and as a father and grandfather, that truly tears your heart up. When people are laid to rest, that’s important.”

Later that night, authorities executed a search warrant at Gerlach’s home and a storage unit. They recovered more than 100 full or partial sets of human and skeletal remains.

Delaware County District Attorney Tanner Rouse described the scene: “Very simply, detectives walked into a horror movie come to life in that home. Some of these remains are 200 years old, while others are much newer—one even had a pacemaker still attached.”

Rouse added, “It is truly, in the most literal sense of the word, horrific. I grieve for those who are upset by this, who are going through this, and who are trying to figure out if it is in fact one of their loved ones.”

Investigators also uncovered online activity linked to Gerlach. This included posts in a “Human Bones and Skull selling group,” where a buyer thanked him for mailing “a possible teen” as well as “a baboon and a monkey,” according to authorities. Other social media posts showed Gerlach posing with a skull, captioned, “riding a Harley, and slinging skulls.”

Following a review of the evidence, prosecutors approved a broad list of 500 criminal charges against Gerlach. These charges include burglary, trespassing, abuse of a corpse, theft by unlawful taking of stolen property, and multiple counts related to desecration of burial places and public monuments.

Gerlach is currently being held at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility on $1 million cash bail. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials noted that additional remains could still be identified. At this time, it is unclear if any of the remains were sold or what motivated Gerlach to collect them.

Gas station employee killed by Parker police after brandishing gun, agency says

A gas station employee was shot and killed by Parker police on Monday night after brandishing a gun at officers who were responding to calls about shots fired, officials said.

Officers responded to the area of Jordan Road and Mainstreet at around 10:20 p.m. after residents called 911 reporting gunfire, the Parker Police Department said in a news release Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers found shell casings and live ammunition in the parking lot of the T Square gas station located at 17050 E. Mainstreet.

The officers spoke with a gas station employee, who initially claimed to have witnessed the shooting. Police attempted to convince the man to surrender peacefully. However, the 32-year-old employee grabbed a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers, prompting them to open fire.

Officers immediately started medical aid, but the man later died at the hospital. No officers were injured during the incident. Six officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

The 23rd Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is currently investigating the shooting.

Mumbai News: Byculla Zoo To Build New Reptile House Featuring 13 Snake Species Including Indian Cobra And Rock Python

**Byculla Zoo to Introduce New Reptile House Featuring 13 Snake Species**

Mumbai: Following the crocodile trail, Byculla’s Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Zoo is set to introduce a new reptile house showcasing 13 species, including the Indian cobra, rock python, and striped keelback.

The ground-plus-one structure is currently in the final planning stages, with tenders expected to be floated within the next month. Construction will commence after the tender process, and the facility is slated to open to visitors within two years.

At present, the reptile enclosure at Byculla Zoo, once home to a variety of snakes, houses only two species — the Indian rock python and the rat snake. Due to the declining number of species, the existing enclosure will be dismantled and rebuilt to better accommodate the current reptiles and allow for the addition of more species in the future.

The Central Zoo Authority has already approved the project. The new reptile house is proposed to be constructed opposite the hippopotamus exhibit within the zoo.

This new enclosure will feature 13 indigenous and exotic snake species, with a pair of each species. Informative display boards will be installed throughout the facility to help visitors identify and learn about the reptiles.

Spread across 500 square meters, the habitat is being designed by a consultant who is currently finalizing the layout. Once the plans are completed, tenders will be invited.

“The tender will be floated within a month,” said Dr. Sanjay Tripathi, Director of Byculla Zoo.

The new enclosure will be developed to house various snake species, including the cobra, Indian rock python, checkered keelback, Russell’s viper, sea snake, and others. Each species will be kept in a separate glass enclosure designed to replicate its natural habitat.

These enclosures will include naturalistic features such as rocks, trees, grass, and water to ensure a suitable and enriched environment for the snakes, enhancing both animal welfare and visitor experience.

Indore News: Truck Transporters’ Strike Halts Goods Movement; 1,000 Vehicles Off Road On Day 2

Indore Truck Transporters Launch Indefinite Strike Over Police-Imposed Restrictions

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Truck transporters in Indore have initiated an indefinite voluntary strike, bringing the movement of goods in and out of the city to a near standstill. Now in its second day as of Tuesday, the strike is a protest against the police-imposed no-entry restrictions on trucks from 6 am to 11 pm.

By Tuesday afternoon, the impact of the strike was evident across the city. Over a thousand trucks remained parked, with transport operators suspending all bookings and deliveries. The protesting transporters also organized a rally, pledging to continue the shutdown until the restrictions are withdrawn.

“We will keep our business completely closed until the no-entry order is lifted,” said Rakesh Tiwari, president of the Indore Truck Operator and Transport Association. The strike has garnered unanimous support from all major transport organizations in the city, including the Association of Parcel Transport and Filet Owners and the Dewas Naka Welfare Association.

No Written Assurances, No Movement

Tiwari explained that the transport associations strongly oppose the police administration’s new restrictions on key routes, which were imposed following a recent truck accident on Aerodrome Road. “Until we receive written assurances from the district and police administration, our strike will continue,” he warned.

“We are not against safety, but business continuity must also be ensured. The authorities must work with us to find a balanced solution,” he added.

Business Paralysis Across the City

With trucks grounded, several industrial and commercial areas — including Transport Nagar, Dewas Naka, Tej Palda, and Choithram Mandi — have reported significant delays in loading, unloading, and delivery operations. Many warehouses have remained idle due to the halted transport movement.
