Peak explores The Roots update today

Peak has proven to be a surprisingly big winner for indie studios Aggro Crab and Landfall. With more and more groups of friends jumping in and trying to survive the harrowing climbs ahead, the developers have released the game’s latest free update.

The Roots update introduces a brand-new biome inspired by the forests of the Pacific Northwest, bringing with it some unique and weirder elements. While Peak’s core gameplay of climbing remains, players will now find themselves scaling towering trees in a dense forest environment. No matter how large the party, these trees present a formidable challenge.

Adding to the tension are giant insects on the hunt, such as massive spiders that can cocoon players in webs and drop them, potentially causing long falls. Players can also forage and munch on native mushrooms they find throughout the forest—at their own risk. These fungi may or may not induce some kind of zombie-like effect, so caution is advised.

The update also brings improvements to the game’s cooking system. It’s now possible to observe effects when placing non-food items in the fire, though the developers are keeping these effects under wraps to encourage player experimentation. Additionally, players can now cook the poison out of berries, making them safer to eat. However, the same does not apply to mushrooms, so be very careful when consuming fungi in the Roots biome.

Microsoft breaks Task Manager in Windows 11, hard

Let’s take a look at how things are going at Microsoft, whose CEO claimed a few months ago that 30% of their code was generated by AI.

After installing Windows Updates released on or after October 28, 2025 (KB5067036), you might encounter an issue where closing Task Manager using the Close (X) button does not fully terminate the process. When you reopen Task Manager, the previous instance continues running in the background even though no window is visible.

This results in multiple lingering instances of taskmgr.exe, consuming system resources and potentially degrading device performance. Additional instances appear as “Task Manager” in the Processes tab and as “Taskmgr.exe” in the Details tab.

Although the impact is less noticeable if Task Manager is opened and closed a few times, many instances accumulated over time can cause noticeable slowdowns in other applications.

AGNC stock stands to benefit from tightening in spreads despite lower estimated Q3 earnings

**AGNC Stock Set to Benefit from Tightening Spreads Despite Lower Estimated Q3 Earnings**

*Published: October 18, 2025 | 12:34 PM ET*

AGNC Investment Corp. is scheduled to announce its Q3 financial results on Monday, October 20th, before the market opens. Despite expectations of lower earnings for the quarter, the stock appears poised to benefit from the recent tightening in agency mortgage-backed securities (MBS) spreads.

**Market Outlook and Analyst Insights**

Recent tightening in agency MBS spreads is viewed as a positive development for AGNC Investment. This shift potentially offsets some of the pressure from the anticipated dip in earnings and supports a higher estimate of the company’s tangible book value.

Analysts remain optimistic that AGNC can maintain its current dividend payout, bolstered by ongoing double-digit yields. However, they also caution that rising costs of funds—driven by maturing swaps—may present headwinds going forward.

**Opportunities and Risks**

Key opportunities for AGNC include increased demand for agency MBS from banks and foreign investors, as well as continued spread tightening. Conversely, risks involve the rising cost of funds as existing hedges expire. There is also a potential decline in trader demand if interest rate-driven price movement slows down.

Investors should weigh these factors carefully as AGNC prepares to release its quarterly results later this week.
