But in the moment these sentences are written—late in the afternoon of Dec. 9, 2025, maybe three hours before the Knicks and Raptors tip off in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena—there seems to be one clear truth about New York sports: the Knicks are the oasis in the sporting city.

They are the patch of calm where everywhere else, storm clouds are either raging or gathering momentum.
