Thanks to a donation from a Silicon Valley billionaire, the nation’s largest police fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks is about to hit the streets of Vegas

“Welcome to the future of policing,” Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill said during a recent press conference, surrounded by Cybertrucks while drones hovered overhead and a police helicopter circled above him.

The fleet of 10 black-and-white Cybertrucks of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, with flashing lights and sirens, are wrapped with the police department’s logo. About 400 officers have been trained to operate the trucks, which will use public charging stations.

The all-electric vehicles are equipped with shotguns, shields, ladders, and additional battery capacity to better handle the demands of a police department, McMahill said.

### Concerns Over Private Donations and Corporate Influence

The donation has raised concerns from government oversight experts about private donors’ influence on public departments and a potential boost to the Tesla brand. The department is the latest U.S. city to turn to Tesla models even as Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company has faced criticism because of Musk’s actions earlier in the year, which included advancing the president’s political agenda and downsizing the federal government.

McMahill noted the trucks will help keep officers safer because they are bulletproof, unlike Metro’s other squad cars. Each Cybertruck is valued between $80,000 and $115,000 and will be used to respond to calls such as barricades and shootings, in addition to regular patrols.

The Cybertrucks also offer unique benefits such as a shorter turning radius, he said.

“They look a little bit different than the patrol cars that we have out there, but they represent something far bigger than just a police car,” the sheriff said. “They represent innovation. They represent sustainability, and they represent our continued commitment to serve this community with the best tools that we have available, safely, efficiently, and responsibly.”

### Cybertrucks Have Been Repeatedly Recalled

The fleet comes amid a roller coaster year for Tesla, which has faced multiple recalls.

In March, U.S. safety regulators recalled virtually all Cybertrucks on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall, covering more than 46,000 Cybertrucks, warned that an exterior panel running along the left and right side of the windshield can detach while driving, creating a dangerous hazard for other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash. Tesla offered to replace the panels free of charge through notification letters sent out in May.

In late October, Tesla announced another recall of more than 63,000 Cybertrucks in the U.S. because the front lights are too bright, potentially distracting other drivers and increasing the risk of collision.

Las Vegas officer Robert Wicks from the department’s public information office said all Tesla recalls will have been resolved before the Cybertrucks patrol the streets. The March panel issue recall was handled before the department received the trucks.

Federal regulators have also opened a new investigation into Tesla’s self-driving feature after dozens of incidents involving vehicles running red lights or driving on the wrong side of the road, sometimes crashing and causing injuries. The Cybertrucks modified for the Las Vegas police fleet do not have any self-driving features.

### Community Concerns About Militarization and Safety

Laura Martin, executive director of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada Action Fund, criticized the trucks’ design.

“The imposing trucks with their sharp angles seem like they’re designed for intimidation and not safety,” she said. “Cybertrucks arriving on the streets of Clark County shows that Sheriff McMahill is prioritizing corporate giveaways and police militarization over real community needs.”

### Privacy and Surveillance Worries

The donation follows President Donald Trump’s purchase of a Tesla on the White House driveway earlier this year, which he said he hoped would help the company amid struggling sales and declining stock prices.

Athar Haseebullah, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, expressed concern over the Cybertrucks’ surveillance capabilities that the public may be unaware of, fearing Tesla might gain access to police data. After a Cybertruck exploded outside Trump’s Las Vegas tower earlier this year, Tesla provided detailed data about the driver’s movements leading up to the incident.

### Expert Views on Private Donations

Ed Obayashi, a special prosecutor in California and an expert on police practices, said private donations to law enforcement are not uncommon or illegal unless prohibited by law. He explained that since the donation is a physical asset, the money cannot be diverted elsewhere.

That said, he doesn’t believe the trucks provide any particular advantage beyond being a free vehicle, which saves taxpayers money.

“There’s not going to be any distinct or noticeable advantage or benefits other than the fact that it’s a free vehicle and it saves the taxpayers money to replace equipment,” Obayashi said.

### Donation From Silicon Valley Venture Capitalists

The Las Vegas fleet was a donation totaling about $2.7 million from Ben Horowitz, co-founder of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and his wife, Felicia Horowitz.

The couple, who live in Las Vegas, have made multiple donations to the department, including between $8 million and $9 million for Project Blue Sky, the department’s implementation of drones throughout the valley. They have also funded emergency call technology and license plate reader products from companies in which Andreessen Horowitz invests.

Ben Horowitz, who has donated to political campaigns for both Democrats and Republicans, was among the investors backing Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter (now known as X). His venture capital firm also hosted Sheriff McMahill and Metro Chief of Staff Mike Gennaro on a podcast in November 2024.

The Horowitzes could not be reached for comment; however, in a 2024 blog post, Ben Horowitz described their interest in donating to the department, emphasizing the importance of public safety and the budgeting challenges faced by public sectors for new technology.

McMahill said the couple wanted to ensure that Las Vegas didn’t “become California when it comes to crime.”

Patriots Reportedly Not Interested in Adding Weapon for Drake Maye

The New England Patriots have been one of the most impressive teams in the NFL to start the season, currently holding a 6-2 record and sitting in first place in the tough AFC East. The Buffalo Bills trail closely behind at 5-2, making the division race highly competitive.

**Drake Maye in Rare Company with Current Streak**

Winners of five straight games, much of the Patriots’ success this season can be attributed to what Drake Maye has accomplished under center. Maye has thrown for at least 200 yards in every game he’s played this year, amassing 2,026 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just three interceptions.

As a still very young team exceeding expectations, it would make sense for the Patriots to explore acquiring a difference-maker on offense to support their young talent, especially as the trade deadline approaches.

**Trade Speculation: A.J. Brown and Beyond**

Reports over the past few months suggested the Patriots had interest in wide receiver A.J. Brown. However, it appears the Philadelphia Eagles are unwilling to part ways with him, which could prompt New England to look elsewhere.

According to the latest report from Dianna Russini of *The Athletic*, the Patriots are currently focused on adding a pass rusher to bolster their defense.

> “The Patriots are searching for a pass rusher but feel good about their offensive weapons. Running back could be a possibility because of recent injuries,” Russini wrote.

While a running back addition remains a possibility due to recent injuries, the team feels confident in their current offensive lineup.

**Looking Ahead: Developing Drake Maye**

Allowing Maye to continue developing at quarterback might be the best approach. The Patriots likely have many competitive years ahead with him leading the offense. Unless there is a significant downturn in his play or other unforeseen circumstances, New England can hold onto its assets and consider making bigger moves in future seasons.

With a strong foundation in place and a commitment to building around their young stars, the Patriots are positioning themselves well for sustained success.

Meet the ‘King of K-pop’: This U.S.-educated computer engineer pioneered music industry practices that fueled the genre’s global expansion

He was discussing the title of Amazon Prime’s documentary about his career. The producers insisted the bolder moniker would resonate better with American audiences. After some back-and-forth, Lee relented. “I had to follow their decision.” The compromise speaks to Lee’s pragmatic approach to breaking South Korean acts into the American mainstream—a three-decade quest that often required him to bend but never break his vision.

Now, as the founder of SM Entertainment and widely credited as the architect of K-pop’s global expansion, Lee will be inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame on Saturday alongside basketball legend Yao Ming, Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan, and rock icon Yoshiki, among others.

Lee remains a prominent but controversial figure in K-pop history. His label pioneered the industry’s intensive training system, recruiting performers as young as elementary school age and putting them through years of rigorous preparation. Some of his artists have challenged their contracts as unfair, sparking broader debates about industry practices.

The recognition arrives as Lee reemerges into the spotlight after a contentious, high-profile departure from the agency he founded in 1995—a management battle that included a public feud with his nephew-in-law and a bidding war over his shares.

He’s been keeping busy since, debuting a new band, A2O MAY, in both China and the U.S. He’s also investing in a boutique Chinese firm’s high-tech production technologies.

Born in South Korea, Lee studied computer engineering in the U.S. for his master’s degree. That technical background would later inform his approach to everything from visualization and cutting-edge production technologies—he said he’s been rewatching *The Matrix* to revisit filming techniques—to pioneering elaborate “worldviews” and virtual avatars for his K-pop bands.

For Lee, the Hall of Fame honor “confirms that K-pop has become a genre that the mainstream is now paying attention to,” an acceptance that came after costly lessons and years of trial and error.

### When America Wasn’t Ready for K-pop

Lee invested about $5 million in BoA’s 2009 American debut with “Eat You Up,” one of the first songs by a South Korean artist to be primarily written and produced by Western producers. It was a bold early attempt to bring K-pop into the U.S. mainstream.

But with few widely recognized Asian artists in American pop culture at the time, the market wasn’t ready. After nearly two years, BoA—already a megastar in Korea and Japan—decided to return home. The experience, Lee has said, left him with lasting regrets.

“When I asked the songwriter(s) to revise ‘Eat You Up,’ they refused,” Lee recalled. “If we had changed it, I believe it would have achieved much better results.”

### Sourcing the World’s Best Songs for K-pop

That setback taught Lee that K-pop needed to source global talent while maintaining creative control to adapt songs for the worldwide market. His quest for the perfect tracks took him worldwide.

“I once heard a song that was so good I couldn’t let it go,” he said, recalling the track that would later become “Dreams Come True” for S.E.S., the late-1990s girl group. “I could’ve bought the license to the song in South Korea, Hong Kong, or Sweden. But I wanted to play it safe, so I found the Finnish address, went to meet the songwriter directly, wrote up a contract, and brought it back.”

At the time, top Western songwriters prioritized Japan, the world’s second-largest music market. “European songwriters were willing to sell to Asia,” Lee explained. “That’s how we eventually built a system where music from Europe, Asia, and America could come together.”

### Fictional Universes that Keep Fans Hooked

That fusion became K-pop’s signature. Lee also helped to pioneer another innovation: elaborate fictional universes, or “worldviews,” for groups like EXO and aespa—a storytelling approach that would later be adopted across the industry, including by groups like BTS.

The concept emerged during his time in the U.S., where he witnessed MTV transform music into a visual medium.

“But we only have three or four minutes,” he said. “How do we express dramatic, cinematic elements in such a short time?”

Lee’s solution was to create ongoing narratives that unfold across multiple music videos and releases—think Marvel’s cinematic universe, but for pop groups. Unable to attract established screenwriters, Lee developed the storylines himself.

The strategy proved prescient: These interconnected narratives give global fans reason to follow groups across comebacks, waiting for the next chapter in an unfolding saga.

### Focused on Asia’s Potential

Despite K-pop’s global success, Lee remains focused on Asia’s potential. He envisions South Korea as a creative hub where international talent learns production.

“Korea should become the country of producers,” he said.

With the Asia-Pacific region home to more than half the world’s population, he sees it as entertainment’s inevitable future center. His latest venture with A2O MAY, which operates in both China and the U.S., is testing that vision in one of Asia’s most challenging markets.

China’s entertainment landscape has grown increasingly restrictive, with Beijing recently cracking down on “effeminate” male celebrities and youth culture. Asked about potential political risks, Lee dismissed concerns.

“Political risk? I don’t really know much about that,” he said. He said he aims to elevate South Korea’s cultural influence as a center of production while meeting China’s needs as it seeks to expand its soft power alongside economic dominance.

“Culturally, does China need what we do? I believe they do.”

### Addressing K-pop’s Darker Aspects

The documentary also addressed darker aspects of K-pop close to Lee’s heart, including the suicides of SM Entertainment artists. He traces the problem to anonymous and malicious online comments that often evade accountability, especially when posted on servers outside South Korea’s jurisdiction—calling it a global issue requiring international cooperation.

Lee advocates for worldwide standards on user verification and mediation systems where victims could identify attackers without expensive legal battles.

But Lee resists the media’s focus on K-pop’s problems.

“Should we always weigh the dark side equally with the bright side, the future?” he asked. “Media should consider whether K-pop represents more future or more past that holds us back. Rather than just discussing the dark side and dragging us down by clinging to the past, shouldn’t we talk more about the future?”

After more than three decades, Lee’s definition remains straightforward: “K-pop is a new language of communication that transcends barriers. These languages move around naturally—what you can’t stop is culture.”

Litecoin’s Record-Low Volatility Signals Potential Bullish Breakout Toward $140

**Litecoin’s Volatility Hits Record Lows, Signaling Imminent Bullish Breakout**

Litecoin’s volatility has dropped to its lowest levels ever, positioning the cryptocurrency above key support zones and setting the stage for a potential strong breakout. Technical analysis reveals a bullish setup, highlighted by consolidation within a triangle pattern on the weekly chart.

Historical data shows that similar low-volatility periods in Litecoin’s price action have often led to major rallies. Experts are forecasting gains of up to 190% from current price levels, signaling robust upside potential. Currently trading near $98, Litecoin’s breakout appears imminent as volatility compression tightens.

### What Is Causing Litecoin’s Imminent Breakout as Volatility Hits Record Lows?

The prospects for a Litecoin breakout are strengthening as the asset experiences unprecedented low volatility around the $98 mark. This compression is evident in technical indicators such as the Bollinger Bands, which suggest that an explosive price move could be on the horizon.

Sustained support above critical levels and historical precedents of sharp rallies following similar volatility contractions underpin this bullish outlook. Analysts — including certified market technicians — point to recent bullish candle formations that signal potential gains, aiming for significantly higher price thresholds.

### How Do Bollinger Bands Signal Litecoin’s Bullish Momentum?

Litecoin’s Bollinger Bands currently show the following levels:

– Upper Band: $120.52
– Middle Band: $84.37
– Lower Band: $48.23

The price is positioned above the middle band, indicating short-term strength. Moreover, the Bollinger Band width reading is at 85.67 — the tightest in Litecoin’s trading history compared to past peaks exceeding 800. Such narrowed bands often suggest reduced market fluctuations that typically precede major breakouts.

Tony Severino, CMT, shared insights on social media, highlighting that the two-month Bollinger Band width has set record lows, reflecting the least volatile period in LTCUSD history. He observed that despite a recent downward wick, the two-month candle closed as a Hammer above the Bollinger Band basis, which is a bullish technical signal.

Severino emphasized that a close above $120 by the end of 2025 could trigger a definitive buy signal, consistent with patterns seen in earlier market cycles.

### Litecoin’s Historical Context and Current Stability

Since its inception in 2013, Litecoin has navigated multiple market phases, demonstrating resilience throughout. Particularly since 2022, the cryptocurrency has consolidated within a narrower range, gradually rebuilding momentum and gaining in stability.

This historical context supports the current narrative that Litecoin is poised for a breakout. Low volatility periods have repeatedly preceded upward price expansions, reinforcing the bullish technical setup.

Recent market data further validates this view. Litecoin gained 3.79% against the U.S. dollar in short-term charts, trading at approximately $98.70. The alignment of analyses across multiple timeframes strengthens the expectation of continuation, with Litecoin holding firm above critical support zones that have proven reliable during past recoveries.

### Analysts Predict Strong Price Targets Ahead

**Price Targets for a Litecoin Breakout:**

– Initial target: $140
– Subsequent targets: $180 and $285

These targets derive from the completion of bullish patterns, such as the ABCDE structure and triangle consolidation. They also take into account historical rally percentages and ongoing technical squeezes, indicating a potential upside exceeding 190% from current levels.

However, analysts emphasize the importance of volume confirmation to validate these breakout moves.

### Is Litecoin’s Low Volatility a Reliable Predictor of Future Gains?

Yes. Litecoin’s record-low volatility has historically preceded significant price movements. Past cycles where the Bollinger Bands tightened have led to rallies exceeding 300%.

Combined with the formation of bullish Hammer candles and sustained support above the middle Bollinger Band, this pattern suggests mounting pressure for an upward breakout. This makes volatility compression a crucial signal for traders monitoring Litecoin’s long-term trends.

### Key Takeaways

– **Record-Low Volatility:** Litecoin’s Bollinger Band width is at historic lows, signaling an impending major move similar to setups that preceded past bull runs.
– **Bullish Technical Indicators:** The Hammer candle close and price above the middle band provide strong upward momentum, with experts like Tony Severino forecasting clear buy signals above $120.
– **Analyst Consensus on Targets:** Industry analysts such as Jonathan Carter and The Penguin project price targets of $140, $180, and $285, urging traders to watch for breakout confirmations on higher timeframes.

### Conclusion

Litecoin’s current trading near $98 combined with record-low volatility primes it for a potential breakout. This is supported by Bollinger Band analysis and expert insights from seasoned analysts including Tony Severino, Jonathan Carter, and The Penguin.

As Litecoin consolidates above crucial support levels and mirrors historical bullish patterns, the outlook remains optimistic for substantial price gains. Investors and traders should closely monitor forthcoming candle closes for confirmation signals, preparing for what may become a transformative rally in the Litecoin market.

*Stay tuned for the latest updates as Litecoin nears a critical technical squeeze, potentially unlocking significant bullish momentum in the coming months.*

“What an unbelievable story arc” – Fans erupt as Shafali Verma plays stunning 87-run knock in IND vs SA Women’s World Cup 2025 final

Team India opener Shafali Verma played a wonderful knock in the Women’s World Cup 2025 final against South Africa on Sunday, November 2. South Africa won the toss and chose to field first at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Shafali helped India get off to a brilliant start with an impressive performance at the crease. The 21-year-old missed out on a well-deserved century, losing her wicket after scoring 87 runs off 78 balls at an impressive strike rate of 111.54. The swashbuckling batter struck two sixes and seven fours during her stay, becoming the youngest player to hit a half-century in an ODI World Cup final.

Interestingly, Shafali was initially omitted from India’s World Cup 2025 squad. However, she was drafted into the side ahead of the semifinal as an injury replacement for Pratika Rawal. The youngster made the most of her opportunity, delivering an exceptional performance in the all-important final and earning praise from all quarters for her batting exploits.

Opening alongside Smriti Mandhana, Shafali stitched together a fantastic 104-run partnership from 106 deliveries. After Mandhana departed following a 45-run knock off 58 balls, Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues added 62 runs from as many balls for the second wicket, further solidifying India’s innings.

Shafali Verma’s impactful knock came to an end in the 28th over when Ayabonga Khaka provided South Africa with a massive breakthrough by dismissing the well-set opener. On the fifth ball of the over, Shafali attempted to play a big shot over mid-off but failed to get enough distance and was caught by Sune Luus.

The crowd at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy gave Shafali a standing ovation for her brilliant batting display. It is worth noting that she had some luck on her side during the final, receiving a big reprieve in the 21st over when Anneke Bosch dropped her catch at deep midwicket.

At the time of writing, India are 195/3 after 34 overs, with Harmanpreet Kaur (12* off 17) and Deepti Sharma (15* off 15) at the crease, looking to build on the solid foundation set by their openers.

Trump tariffs could add $40 billion to holiday shoppers’ and sellers’ costs, LendingTree warns

American Consumers to Spend Billions More This Holiday Season Due to Trump-Era Tariffs

American consumers are expected to have wallets billions of dollars lighter this holiday season, according to a recent analysis by LendingTree. The increased costs stem from tariffs imposed during President Donald Trump’s administration, which continue to impact prices on a variety of consumer goods.

Sunday marked six months since the announcement of the broad “liberation day” tariffs. Since then, prices for select food items and consumer products have risen. Now, as holiday merchandise that has been stored in warehouses for months finally reaches store shelves, consumers are beginning to feel the full impact of these added costs.

### LendingTree’s Analysis on Holiday Spending

LendingTree, an online lending marketplace, used 2024 winter holiday spending data to assess the financial effect of the tariffs on the upcoming season. The company estimates that the new tariffs will increase total holiday costs for both consumers and retailers by approximately $40.6 billion.

Of this amount, consumers are expected to bear the brunt, shouldering an estimated $28.6 billion in extra expenses. This increase translates to about $132 more spent per shopper. Retailers, meanwhile, are expected to cover the remaining $12 billion in elevated costs.

Matt Schulz, LendingTree’s Chief Consumer Finance Analyst, commented on the findings:
“For most Americans, spending an extra $132 at the holidays is significant. While it may not be earth-shattering, it can have a real impact on many families. It could prompt people to cut back on gift-giving this year or lead to them taking on extra debt. That’s a choice no one wants to have to make.”

### Impact on Consumer Behavior and Retailers

Retail analysts have told CNBC that they expect consumers to purchase fewer items this holiday season as a result of higher costs caused by tariffs. Schulz echoed this sentiment, calling it an “unfortunate reality” many consumers will face.

He added, “That might mean giving fewer items as gifts, or it could mean having to absorb the higher costs to give your loved ones what they want. I doubt we’ll see a huge drop-off in the amount of electronics and clothes gifted this year, simply because they are what many people want. However, for some, higher prices may leave them with no other choice.”

### Sectors Most Affected by Tariffs

LendingTree’s analysis highlights electronics buyers as facing the biggest increase in holiday spending, with an average additional cost of $186 per shopper. Clothing and accessories follow, with an estimated added cost of $82 per shopper.

As the holiday season approaches, shoppers and retailers alike may need to adjust their plans and budgets in response to these increased prices driven by ongoing tariff policies.
