Justin Herbert and Chargers thrashed by Jaguars in worst loss of the Jim Harbaugh era

The Chargers didn’t have to worry about another historic comeback this time. The Jacksonville Jaguars left no room for doubt in a dominant performance, handing the Chargers a 35-6 defeat under blue skies at EverBank Stadium.

Unable to contain Jacksonville’s powerful ground game or its relentless pass rush, the Chargers offered little resistance. This marked the worst loss of Jim Harbaugh’s 1½ seasons with the Chargers and the team’s most lopsided defeat since the Raiders thrashed them 63-21 on December 14, 2023.

The Chargers struggled to find any rhythm, mustering only a pair of field goals while the Jaguars looked every bit like playoff contenders—even though Jacksonville had lost three of its previous four games coming into this matchup.

Jacksonville dominated on the ground, running for 192 yards compared to the Chargers’ meager 42. They also controlled the clock, winning the time-of-possession battle by nearly 16 minutes.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert took a beating throughout the contest. Despite Jacksonville entering the game tied for last in sacks, Herbert faced heavy pressure on most of his drop-backs. His offensive line woes were fully exposed as he was sacked three times, and he even spent some time in the blue medical tent after taking a particularly hard hit.

Herbert was limited to just 81 passing yards with one interception, as three starters from the Jaguars’ secondary were notably absent but didn’t seem to impact Jacksonville’s defensive dominance. The Chargers’ offense sputtered in the second half, gaining a total of only five yards in their first three possessions after halftime.

With the game already decided, backup quarterback Trey Lance replaced Herbert in the fourth quarter. The Chargers pulled most of their starters with 11 minutes remaining, conceding the match.

This game took place in Jacksonville—where three years ago the Chargers famously blew a 27-point lead in a first-round playoff loss to the Jaguars.

Sunday’s first half was forgettable for the Chargers, who trailed 14-6 at the break. Their biggest concern was Herbert’s health. On a crucial fourth-down play with just 29 seconds left in the half, Herbert was slammed to the turf despite the play being whistled dead due to left tackle Trevor Penning being lined up improperly. Jaguars defensive end B.J. Green raced around the edge and delivered a punishing hit on the star quarterback.

The Chargers didn’t get the benefit of a roughing-the-passer call, as the penalties were offsetting. Herbert headed to the blue medical tent while Lance began warming up on the sideline.

Running back Kimani Vidal, who was promoted from the practice squad earlier this season after injuries sidelined the team’s top two backs, spent much of the first half on the sideline with a leg injury. To fill the void, the Chargers promoted two more running backs from the practice squad.

At the heart of the Chargers’ struggles was their offensive line. Penning, acquired in a trade with New Orleans just two weeks ago, made his debut as the starting left tackle. Unfortunately, like the rest of the team, he struggled mightily throughout the game.

Tom Brady offers Drew Brees advice ahead of Fox debut: Don’t read social media

Drew Brees is making his Fox debut Sunday afternoon, calling the Packers-Giants game at MetLife Stadium alongside Adam Amin. This assignment places Brees on what appears to be Fox’s No. 3 or No. 4 broadcast team—a softer landing spot compared to the one Tom Brady experienced when he transitioned into the booth last year.

Brady understands what Brees is walking into and offered some advice during Fox NFL Sunday’s pregame show. “I’m glad I’m not a rookie anymore, but I’d warn him of all the mistakes I made in my first year, but we’d be here for an hour,” Brady said. “So, I’m not going to tell you any of those things. He knows what to do. Have fun, just enjoy yourself, and don’t read all those social media comments after.”

During his first season, Brady faced criticism for being too cautious, lacking in-depth Xs-and-Os analysis, and delivering surface-level observations that didn’t seem to match Fox’s $375 million investment. Since the network replaced Greg Olsen with Brady on the top team, every underwhelming moment was magnified. By February, many in the sports media—including us at Awful Announcing—were still debating whether he even belonged in the broadcast booth.

Brees is stepping into a similar environment, albeit with lower stakes and less money tied to his role. He is also entering the picture after Fox cut ties with Mark Sanchez following his arrest on felony battery charges.

This is Brees’ second chance at calling NFL games. NBC initially brought him in for 2021 to work on Football Night in America’s studio show and to call Notre Dame games. The network was grooming him as Cris Collinsworth’s eventual successor on Sunday Night Football. However, after a disappointing audition during the Raiders-Bengals wild-card game in January 2022, Brees was out of a job.

Whether Brees sticks with Fox depends largely on how quickly he adjusts to the role. Brady’s first year was rough enough to cause doubts about the value of the network’s investment. Although Brady is not elite on the mic, he has improved to a level that Fox isn’t regretting the deal.

Brees has the advantage of entering with lower expectations and a broadcast partner who can help carry the team. However, he also faces the disadvantage of having already experienced failure once in this arena. Only time will tell if this second chance will lead to lasting success.

Kurt Cobain’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ guitar to be sold at NYC auction — and could fetch millions

**Kurt Cobain’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Guitar to Be Sold at Midtown Auction Next Spring, Expected to Fetch Millions**

A rare piece of music history is set to go under the hammer next spring in Midtown: Kurt Cobain’s 1969 Fender Mustang guitar, famously used in the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music video, will be auctioned off with an expected price tag between $2.5 million and $5 million, The Post has learned.

The iconic Nirvana frontman’s Mustang will be part of a massive sale featuring late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay’s extensive music memorabilia collection at Christie’s in March. According to Alexander Rotter, Christie’s global president, “He made the greatest music on this guitar and defined a generation.” The Mustang is rumored to have been one of Cobain’s favorite guitars.

“This is a piece of American history, so I [predict] a lot of people coming in for it. I am convinced it will get competitive,” Rotter added.

The auction is expected to draw a record number of music fans into the free-to-enter Rockefeller Plaza galleries, which have previously showcased guitars once owned by legendary rockers such as Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck. Rotter anticipates a vibrant turnout, describing the atmosphere as feeling “like a concert.”

“I expect this building to be crowded when we’re selling this collection — excitingly crowded. When we open up and go into popular culture at the highest level, because that’s what we do, it gets exciting,” he said.

Jim Irsay purchased the Fender Mustang for $4.6 million in 2022, making it the highest-priced electric guitar ever sold at the time. Despite significant scratches and wear on the guitar’s body, Rotter pointed out that this particular instrument hasn’t suffered the same fate as some other Cobain-owned guitars, many of which were smashed onstage or heavily battered.

Cobain’s heavily damaged Fender Stratocaster sold for $595,000 at auction in 2023, even though it was unplayable.

“He didn’t go crazy with [the Mustang], like with some other guitars that we’ve seen in videos or live concerts,” said Rotter. “He took care of it and it survived.”

Cobain himself expressed his fondness for the Mustang in a 1991 interview with Guitar World, calling the model “cheap and totally inefficient, and they sound like crap and are very small.” Yet, he also proclaimed, “Out of all the guitars in the whole world, the Fender Mustang is my favorite. I’ve only owned two of them. Lately, I’ve been using a Strat live because I don’t want to ruin my Mustang yet.”

For fans eager to acquire a piece of Cobain’s legacy before the spring auction, Christie’s will also be auctioning an Elizabeth Peyton portrait of Kurt Cobain this Wednesday. The portrait, completed a year after Cobain’s 1994 death by suicide at the age of 27, is expected to fetch between $2 million and $3 million.

Rotter described the artwork as “almost a love letter in portraiture form of Kurt by one of the greatest portrait artists of her generation.”

The Fender Mustang was used in studio sessions for both Nirvana’s seminal 1991 album *Nevermind* and its 1993 follow-up, *In Utero*. The guitar was previously owned by the Cobain family and displayed at The Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle from 2010 until its acquisition by Irsay. It later toured as part of the Jim Irsay Collection, which includes other legendary items such as Elton John’s longtime Steinway & Sons touring piano, handwritten Bob Dylan lyrics, a Ringo Starr drum kit, and guitars used by Elvis Presley, Prince, and John Lennon.

The former business mogul was reportedly offered more than $1 billion for his extensive music memorabilia collection, according to ESPN. In October, Irsay’s daughters announced plans to sell off large portions of the collection, with part of the proceeds designated for charity.

“Our dad was a passionate collector, driven not by possession, but by a profound appreciation for the beauty, history, and cultural resonance of the items he curated,” the family said in a statement. “From iconic instruments to handwritten lyrics by legends to rare historical artifacts and documents, each piece in the collection tells a story, and he was always so excited to share those stories with the world.”

Christie’s is already preparing the stage for the Midtown auction house’s rockstar sale next spring, promising to “transform” its galleries with some of music history’s most treasured ephemera.

“Right now, we’re thinking about how to display [Irsay’s] guitars because they need to look the part,” Rotter explained, pointing to the acclaimed Fender Mustang as a highlight. “It will be an amazing sale of memorabilia that spans [eras], and this will be one of the trophies.”

One Hope United ramps up gift drive for as many as 10K kids around Tampa

A beloved tradition is returning to the Tampa area this holiday season, promising to spread joy to thousands of children and families. One Hope United is kicking off its annual Holiday Hope Express, a festive event designed to deliver gifts and holiday cheer across the region.

**Spreading Holiday Cheer Through the Holiday Hope Express**

Led by the nonprofit organization One Hope United, the Holiday Hope Express runs through December 12. Its mission is to provide gifts and holiday tidings to as many as 10,000 children and families in need around Tampa Bay.

One Hope United serves as a foster care and adoption services agency for the region, but during the holiday season, its focus turns to making the holidays brighter for children through its signature gift drive.

**How Local Businesses and Community Members Can Help**

The Holiday Hope Express is primarily a toy drive, with a special emphasis on encouraging employers and organizations throughout Tampa Bay to organize their own drives in their workplaces or communities. Gifts collected are then delivered to central donation points managed by One Hope United.

Local businesses can also contribute by making monetary donations online. “Every toy makes a difference,” says Damon Cates, President and CEO of One Hope United. “The Holiday Hope Express is a way for our community to come together and brighten the holidays for children who need it most.”

**Resources for Organizing a Holiday Drive**

To help businesses and groups get involved, One Hope United offers a variety of resources. Their Holiday Hope Express website features helpful tools like the “Hope Conductor Toolkit,” which provides step-by-step instructions for starting an internal toy drive campaign.

Support materials are available, including social media assets, suggested gift lists, and downloadable flyers to promote drives in the workplace or community.

**Key Dates and Recommendations**

One Hope United recommends that participating companies wrap up their collection drives by December 5, ensuring that all gifts are delivered to the nonprofit by December 12. For donors looking for guidance, the suggested shopping budget for each child ranges between $25 and $50.

**Get Involved Today**

The Holiday Hope Express offers a meaningful way for the Tampa Bay community to unite and make a difference this season. For more information on how to participate or to make a donation, visit the [Holiday Hope Express website](#).

Opter, Bitcoin and XRP – 3 Cryptos to Watch This Week

The crypto world may shift fast this week. Opter offers a new way to trade perpetual contracts, Bitcoin sits near major support, and XRP faces a big ETF moment. Read on to see what could move prices and why OPTER looks set to lead the pack—despite still being in presale.

### Opter Launches Presale with $2.8 Billion Market Cap Target

Opter is a trading platform built for people who demand speed and control. It allows users to trade perpetual contracts on crypto and real assets with up to 100x leverage. You can sign up with just an email or connect a wallet, with no lengthy KYC process to slow you down.

The presale is unique. You can buy OPTER tokens directly or earn them simply by trading on the platform. For example, trading $100,000 earns you 800 OPTER tokens. There are 400 million tokens available for sale in this stage, and the price rises after each stage, so early buyers get the lowest rate.

A portion of trading fees is used to buy back tokens on the open market. Half of these bought-back tokens are permanently burned. Another share goes to staking rewards, and a portion funds the protocol and marketing efforts. This setup pushes supply down while rewarding token holders.

Analysts who follow the perpetual markets note the space handles huge volume. Exchanges in this area pull in over a billion dollars in fees annually. If Opter captures even a small share of that market, it could grow rapidly.

The mechanics are simple yet effective: fast trades, low fees, token buybacks, and a way for traders to earn tokens before launch.

### Bitcoin Holds a Key Floor Near $98,000 and Waits for a Trigger

Bitcoin has been moving in a narrow range lately. Most traders are watching $98,000 as a strong support level. If BTC remains above this, the path toward $140,000 or more in the coming year becomes possible. However, if it breaks below, expect selling pressure and a test of lower levels.

Institutional flows remain important. Bitcoin ETFs have seen large moves this month, continuing to influence the price. Technically, Bitcoin appears neutral to slightly bullish. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits near the middle, with many experts believing a daily close above $106,500 would boost confidence in Bitcoin.

### XRP Could Ignite with ETF Listings but Risks Remain

XRP currently trades around $2.40, facing resistance near $2.60. New XRP ETFs recently listed on Nasdaq could bring significant inflows. If that happens, XRP could push above $3.

However, if demand fails to materialize, critical support between $2.20 and $2.30 will be crucial to watch. Recent regulatory clarity and support from major banks have made XRP more accessible to institutions.

Analysts agree that a clean break above $2.60 would signal a bullish outlook. On the downside, a drop below $2.20 could lead to a deeper pullback.

### Why Opter Is the Best Crypto to Buy Today

Bitcoin and XRP are established names with broad use cases. Opter, however, takes a different approach by targeting traders directly.

Its presale comes with real ways to earn tokens without simply paying upfront. The buyback and burn mechanism reduces supply, and the team has locked tokens showing a clear long-term plan.

Experts who monitor exchange launches and tokenomics emphasize one key factor: utility combined with fair tokenomics quickly draws attention. Opter offers both.

If you want exposure to an innovative product rather than a traditional market leader, Opter is a strong choice. It blends a practical product, opportunities for users to earn tokens, and rules designed to reduce supply over time.

### Conclusion

Bitcoin and XRP will always remain important players in the crypto space. Yet Opter brings a fresh perspective: a practical platform, a hybrid presale model, and token mechanics that reward early users.

For traders seeking a new angle, Opter stands out as one to watch. Stage 1 of Opter’s presale is live now—trade, earn, and level up while the price is still at its earliest point.

Jets Coordinator in Danger of Being Fired Amid Struggles, Says Insider

There are many reasons the New York Jets find themselves at a disappointing 2-8 record this season. One of the primary issues has been the defense falling apart, raising serious concerns as the team struggles to find stability on that side of the ball.

NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY recently highlighted the uncertain job security of Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks as the 2025 season approaches its conclusion. “I think there is a reason that he has been pretty much one-and-done in a lot of other places. That is a name to keep an eye on. I think when the season ends that is one to watch because if the Jets are going to make changes and Woody [Johnson] is going to demand changes, I don’t think it’s going to be Tanner Engstrand, I think it could be Steve Wilks where they step in and say we want a new voice on defense and I wouldn’t disagree with it at all,” Hughes explained on the show *Jets Final Drive*.

Adding to the concerns, Zack Rosenblatt of *The Athletic* stated, “I have a lot of concerns about the future of this defense, and honestly, the person calling the plays on defense, I have some concerns about.”

### The Jets’ Defense Has Completely Collapsed

The Jets’ defensive production this season has been underwhelming. Through the first 10 games of the 2025 season, New York ranks 19th in yards allowed (329.7 per game), 23rd in rushing yards allowed (130.9 per game), and 26th in points allowed (26.8 per game), according to ESPN.

One statistic stands out as particularly alarming: “Through 10 games of the 2025 regular season, the New York Jets are closing in on an unwanted milestone in NFL history. The Jets have recorded just one takeaway all season, a lone forced fumble during their international game against the Broncos, and remain without an interception. That drought ties them with the 2017 Raiders for the longest to start a season. If they fail to snag one next week against the Baltimore Ravens, the Jets will stand alone at the top of that dubious list,” reports the Pro Football Network.

Currently, the Jets are the only team in the NFL without a single interception this season.

### Wilks Has Become a Coaching Nomad Throughout His Career

Steve Wilks’ coaching resume reveals a pattern of short stints. Over his 30-year career, Wilks has been a “one-and-done” head or coordinator in 10 different places. He has rarely stayed with the same team for long. His longest tenure was with the Carolina Panthers, where he spent six consecutive seasons from 2012 through 2017.

### Coach Glenn Has Been Through This Before

Jets defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is no stranger to navigating challenging coaching situations. While he is not the same personality as head coach Dan Campbell, the two were once on the same staff in Detroit. Following Campbell’s first season there, he retained Glenn as defensive coordinator but made a change on offense by replacing former Jets coach Anthony Lynn with up-and-coming offensive coordinator Ben Johnson—a move that proved successful.

Having witnessed how Campbell managed his staff restructuring, Glenn might consider borrowing some strategies from his former head coach’s playbook when making decisions about the Jets’ defensive staff moving forward.

Interestingly, both Lynn and Wilks were former NFL head coaches whom Campbell and Glenn brought onto their staffs, valuing their experience and leadership. Their backgrounds as head coaches have been assets that both Campbell and Glenn could lean on during challenging times.

As the 2025 season winds down, all eyes will be on the Jets’ defense and whether changes will be made to bring in a new voice—potentially signaling the end of Wilks’ tenure in New York.
