Japan Open 2025: Where to watch, TV schedule, live streaming details and more

Carlos Alcaraz will lead the field at the 2025 Japan Open in the absence of defending champion Arthur Fils, who has withdrawn from the tournament due to a back injury. The ATP 500 event kicks off with main draw action on Wednesday, September 24.

Fils had claimed the title last year by defeating compatriot Ugo Humbert in the final. Humbert, who will be seeded sixth this year, is set to return to the tournament aiming for another strong showing.

Alcaraz will begin his campaign against Sebastian Baez. His quarter of the draw also features notable players such as Frances Tiafoe and Brandon Nakashima. In the top half, other seeds include Denis Shapovalov and Casper Ruud. Shapovalov will need to be on guard against Matteo Berrettini and Jaume Munar, while Ruud could face Daniel Altmaier.

Second seed Taylor Fritz opens his run against Gabriel Diallo. His potential path includes matchups against Nuno Borges and Tomas Machac in the second round and quarterfinals respectively. Also in the bottom half are Ugo Humbert and Holger Rune, who appear poised for a possible meeting. Hamad Medjedovic and Jenson Brooksby add further depth to this section of the draw.

Japanese tennis fans will have plenty to cheer for with wildcards Yosuke Watanuki and Yoshihito Nishioka granted entry into the main draw, adding local flavor to this year’s tournament.

Looking back, before Arthur Fils, the previous two editions were won by Ben Shelton (who defeated Aslan Karatsev) and Taylor Fritz (who overcame Frances Tiafoe). It is worth noting that the tournament was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With three titles, Stefan Edberg remains the most decorated champion in Japan Open history. Other multiple-time winners include former Japanese No. 1 Kei Nishikori, Pete Sampras, and Jim Courier.

### Where is the 2025 Ryder Cup being held?

Bethpage Black, the host of the 2025 Ryder Cup, is one of the most famous public golf courses in the United States. Located at Bethpage State Park in Long Island, New York, it is part of a five-course complex that includes the Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow layouts.

Designed in the 1930s by A. W. Tillinghast, the Black Course quickly gained a reputation for its difficulty and bold design. The course has hosted some of golf’s biggest championships, including the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009, the 2019 PGA Championship, and PGA TOUR events such as The Barclays in 2012 and 2016.

With the 2025 Ryder Cup, Bethpage Black joins an elite group of courses that have hosted a U.S. Open, a PGA Championship, and now the biennial team event.

Known for its challenging layout, Bethpage Black features long par-4s, steep elevation changes, thick rough, and deep bunkers. A warning sign at the first tee famously advises that the course is recommended only for highly skilled golfers.

Despite its toughness, Bethpage Black remains accessible to the public, with green fees set well below private-club standards.

Presenting most expensive spells of Jasprit Bumrah in T20Is

**Most Expensive Spells of Jasprit Bumrah in T20I Cricket**
*By Parth Dhall | Sep 22, 2025, 6:09 PM*

India recently overcame Pakistan in a thrilling Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Men in Blue successfully chased down a target of 172 in just 18.5 overs, once again showcasing their dominance in the format. Earlier, Sahibzada Farhan’s 45-ball 58 had powered Pakistan to a competitive total of 171/5 in 20 overs. In a surprising turn of events, India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah was hit for 45 runs in his four overs.

Here’s a look at the most expensive spells Bumrah has bowled in T20I cricket:

### 1. 50 Runs vs Australia, Hyderabad, 2022
The only time Jasprit Bumrah has conceded 50 or more runs in a T20I was during the 2022 match against Australia in Hyderabad. The right-arm seamer gave away 50 runs without taking a wicket. Australia posted a strong total of 186/7 in their 20 overs. Despite Bumrah’s expensive spell, India managed to chase down the target, winning the match by six wickets with a ball to spare. Notably, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav both scored half-centuries to anchor the chase.

### 2. 47 Runs vs West Indies, Lauderhill, 2016
In his debut year at the international level, Bumrah experienced a challenging outing against the West Indies in Lauderhill. He conceded 47 runs but picked up two wickets. The West Indies capitalized on this to post a massive 245/6 in their 20 overs. India came agonizingly close, thanks to KL Rahul’s unbeaten 110, but ultimately lost the match by just one run.

### 3. 45 Runs vs New Zealand and Pakistan
Bumrah’s recent spell against Pakistan in Dubai, where he was taken for 45 runs, ranks as his joint third-most expensive in T20Is. He conceded the same number of runs against New Zealand during the 2020 Hamilton T20I as well. In both matches, Bumrah went wicketless. Despite this, India managed to defeat New Zealand in a thrilling one-over eliminator (Super Over) following the Hamilton game.

Jasprit Bumrah is widely regarded as one of the best T20 bowlers in the world, and these few expensive spells are exceptions in an otherwise impressive career. His ability to bounce back and deliver in crucial moments remains a key asset for the Indian cricket team.

From Test pain to T20 gain: Jordan Cox’s comeback

By Rajdeep Saha | Sep 22, 2025 | 01:13 am

**England’s Jordan Cox Opens Up About Injury Setback and Triumphant Comeback**

England cricketer Jordan Cox has opened up about his struggle to cope with an injury that denied him a Test debut last December. Despite this setback, Cox was determined not to let his white-ball comeback follow a similar fate.

### Setback: Missed Test Debut Due to Thumb Injury

Cox was initially set to feature in a three-match Test series against New Zealand last December. However, his plans were disrupted when he broke his thumb during net practice. This unfortunate injury paved the way for Jacob Bethell, whose impressive performances have seen him advance across all formats.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Cox admitted it was “really hard” to have his chance taken away.

### Resilience: Determination Leads to T20 Success Against Ireland

Despite his earlier injury, Cox was determined not to let another opportunity slip through his fingers. During England’s match against Ireland in Malahide, he suffered a knee scare while attempting a catch but was adamant about batting.

“There was no chance I wasn’t going to bat because I might have to wait for another two years,” Cox told Sky Sports News.

His determination paid off as he scored a fiery 55 runs off 35 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Coming in at number 4, Cox’s knock helped England chase down Ireland’s total of 154/8 in 20 overs, leading to a six-wicket victory. This win also sealed the T20 series in England’s favor, 2-0.

### Comeback: Oval Invincibles Star Ready for the Next Challenge

Cox rebuilt his confidence over the summer with a stellar performance for Hundred champions Oval Invincibles. He finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 367 runs and hopes to carry the momentum into future matches.

“I seem to do well when I’m in that Oval shirt, so why not try and do it everywhere?” he said.

Looking ahead, Cox is eagerly anticipating England’s next white-ball tour against New Zealand in October, hoping to continue his impressive form on the international stage.

Arsenal were a better team against Man City: Pep Guardiola

**Arsenal Were the Better Team Against Man City, Says Pep Guardiola**

*By Rajdeep Saha | Sep 22, 2025, 01:18 AM*

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that Arsenal outperformed his team in their recent Premier League encounter, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite an early goal from Erling Haaland giving City the lead, Arsenal fought back with a late equalizer from Gabriel Martinelli. Reflecting on the match, Guardiola admitted, “I think the result is fair. In general, Arsenal were better.” He praised Arsenal’s overall performance, describing the game as “demanding” and commending their solid defensive organization, especially during set-pieces.

### Tactical Shift: Defensive Approach from City

In a departure from his usual style, Guardiola deployed a five-man defense to contain Arsenal’s attacking threats. “We don’t try to be like this but when the opponent is better we defend deeper and counter-attack,” he explained. This defensive setup helped frustrate Arsenal for most of the match but was ultimately breached in the closing stages when Martinelli scored.

### Resilience Amid Fatigue

Guardiola also highlighted the physical and emotional challenges his squad faced leading up to this fixture. Having played intense matches against Manchester United and Napoli earlier in the week, fatigue was a significant factor. “Hats off to our team for the resilience. It’s so difficult when you’re not effective with high pressing,” he remarked.

He further noted the toll of their prior encounter with Napoli and the long journey to London, which impacted his team’s usual dominance.

### Notable Stats

According to Opta, the 1-1 draw marked a record low for Guardiola’s teams in terms of possession during a top-flight league match. Manchester City held just 32.8% possession, the lowest average of any Guardiola side in his Premier League career, and one of the two lowest possession stats recorded in his 601 league games as City manager — both occurring against Arsenal (the other being 36.5% in March 2023).

Pep Guardiola’s candid reflections underline Arsenal’s rising stature and the challenges facing Manchester City as they navigate a congested fixture schedule this season.

Rookie Saints coach Kellen Moore takes fire for questionable fourth-down decisions

The New Orleans Saints entered their third game of the season winless but came out with an aggressive attitude against the Seattle Seahawks. However, some might say they were too aggressive, making questionable decisions far too early in the game.

One example came in the second quarter, roughly three and a half minutes into the contest, when the Saints attempted a fourth-down play from two yards out. Quarterback Spencer Rattler tried to connect with running back Alvin Kamara on a deep pass, but it fell incomplete. This gave Seattle the ball near midfield. The decision was particularly baffling since the game was still scoreless at that point.

On the very next fourth-down attempt, with just one yard to go, Rattler tried to pick up the first down himself. Unfortunately, a penalty pushed the Saints back, turning it into fourth and six, forcing them to punt.

Things went from bad to worse when Seahawks special teams ace Tory Horton returned the punt 95 yards for a touchdown, putting Seattle on the board in a big way.

Saints fans took to social media to express their frustration over the series of events, with many suggesting that New Orleans is making a strong case for being one of the worst teams in the NFL this season.

Hits and misses: Arsenal ‘finishers’ bail out Arteta as Pep ‘parks the bus’

Arsenal’s ‘Finishers’ Step Up Again

Mikel Arteta used the word “finishers” when talking up the importance of Arsenal’s substitutes following their Champions League win over Athletic Club on Tuesday. They came through again five days later in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City, helping the Gunners out of a tricky spot.

There did not seem to be much on when Eberechi Eze picked up the ball in his own half during the third of seven minutes of stoppage time after a largely listless Arsenal display. However, his perfectly weighted ball over the top found fellow “finisher” Martinelli, who did the rest.

The pass and looping finish that followed were rare moments of individual quality in an Arsenal performance that lacked attacking inspiration. For Martinelli, fresh from his goal and assist from the bench in midweek, it was further proof of his impact.

More broadly, though, it again reflected the increased depth available to Arteta. While it was clear the Arsenal boss got his starting line-up wrong, he is right in thinking matches can be changed from the bench—even if this time it was only enough for a draw.

Martinelli, in particular, will hope his latest contribution is enough to win him a place in the starting line-up against Newcastle next weekend. Alongside Eze, he provided another reminder that Arsenal have the quality and tools to turn games with their substitutes.

Nick Wright

Did Pep ‘Park the Bus’?

Pep Guardiola smiled when asked if he had “parked the bus” during his post-match press conference at the Emirates Stadium. “One time in 10 years isn’t bad,” joked the Manchester City boss.

City recorded just 32.8% possession in their draw with Arsenal—the lowest share of the ball by a Guardiola team in any league game throughout his 601-game top-flight career.

Guardiola attributed this not to a deliberate defensive tactic but to Arsenal’s quality. There may be some truth to that, especially considering the second-lowest possession percentage of his managerial career also came against Arsenal two years ago.

He also highlighted the context of a gruelling week for his players. Arsenal had two more days’ rest than City, who had faced Napoli in the Champions League on Thursday, following their Manchester derby win the previous Sunday.

There was an acceptance, too, that his new-look team is still finding its way. Changes in personnel over recent months require certain adjustments in their style. Erling Haaland’s goal reflected an increased emphasis on direct attacks, but the lack of possession was something different altogether.

Nick Wright

Newcastle’s Away-Goal Drought Continues

A combined expected goals total of just 0.69 summed up what was a dull affair between Newcastle and Bournemouth. The goalless draw was far from exciting but is not unfamiliar territory for Newcastle away from St James’ Park this season.

The Magpies have now failed to score in their last four away games, extending a winless run on the road to six matches.

Eddie Howe fielded a heavily changed Newcastle side, making seven alterations from the team that had been beaten by Barcelona. One of those changes included their club-record signing, Nick Woltemade. Despite some impressive moments on the ball, Woltemade failed to register a single shot, which will be a concern for Howe.

Having lost one of the league’s leading goalscorers in Alexander Isak, Newcastle now face a troubling goalscoring problem. This issue adds to the narrative about the impact of Isak’s departure.

The good news for Newcastle is they will have time to address their toothless away goalscoring run, as their next away match is against Brighton after the upcoming international break.

Sunderland’s ‘Captain Fantastic’ Xhaka Delivers Again

Few expected Granit Xhaka’s move from Bayer Leverkusen to newly-promoted Sunderland in the summer, but the decision has already been justified for both club and player.

The 32-year-old has played every minute of Sunderland’s first Premier League campaign since the 2016/17 season, helping Regis Le Bris’ side to eight points from their opening five games.

Xhaka is not only a calming presence in front of a defence with limited top-flight experience but also provides valuable attacking support. He assisted Wilson Isidor in the 2-1 win over Brentford last month and repeated the feat in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, cleverly cushioning a header to set up Isidor to score and earn a point.

In his post-match press conference, Le Bris revealed that Xhaka had addressed the squad following Reinildo’s needless red card, underlining his leadership qualities as captain.

Bangladesh Cricket Board elections on October 6, Tamim raises concerns

**Bangladesh Cricket Board Elections Scheduled for October 6; Tamim Iqbal Raises Concerns**

*By Rajdeep Saha | September 21, 2025, 9:55 PM*

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections are set to take place on October 6, as announced today by the country’s Election Commission. In this election, the general members body, known as the councilors, will elect 23 out of the 25 board directors. Following this, a BCB president will be chosen from the 25 directors to serve a four-year term.

**Tamim Iqbal Alleges Interference in Election Process**

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who recently declared his intention to run for a position, has raised serious concerns about the election process. During a press conference in Dhaka held alongside other candidates and former BCB directors, Tamim accused the current BCB president, Nazmul Hassan, of “interference” in the elections.

Tamim criticized Nazmul Hassan for unilaterally extending the deadline for nomination submissions twice. He pointed out that a letter dated September 18, signed by Nazmul himself to extend the deadline, was not issued by the BCB’s chief executive. “The election commission has been in charge since their appointment. The BCB president extended the nomination deadline twice,” Tamim stated.

**Concerns Over Violation of BCB Constitution**

Tamim further alleged that the BCB’s constitution was breached when board representatives from eight divisions and 64 districts were nominated by an ad-hoc committee. He expressed that this nomination process conflicted with the established constitution, describing the entire procedure as a “selection” rather than a true election.

“If elections are conducted this way, it is no longer an election but a selection. Elections should be open and fair for everyone,” Tamim emphasized.

**Call for Fairness and Integrity**

Tamim appealed to the authorities to respect the original list of councilors. “I hope that those declared as councilors on September 17 remain unchanged. There should be no modifications,” he urged, stressing the need for a transparent and fair election process.

The election schedule includes the publication of a draft voter list on September 22, followed by the final list on September 25.

**Overview of the BCB Election Process**

The upcoming BCB election will proceed in three categories:

1. **Division and District Directors**: 10 directors will be elected from divisions and districts across Bangladesh.

2. **Dhaka Clubs Representatives**: 12 directors will be elected from representatives of Dhaka’s cricket clubs.

3. **Special Category Director**: One director will be elected from former cricketers, national captains, security forces, and councilors nominated by the National Sports Council.

Additionally, the Bangladesh government will appoint two directors to serve on the board.

As election day approaches, all eyes remain on the BCB and the Election Commission to ensure that the process is conducted fairly and transparently for the betterment of Bangladesh cricket.

Rory McIlroy fires back at Bryson DeChambeau’s trash talk ahead of Ryder Cup

Rory McIlroy has never shied away from trash talk during a Ryder Cup, and with the tournament at Bethpage Black this week, he has started again. McIlroy, who will star for Team Europe, took aim at one specific Team USA player: Bryson DeChambeau.

Earlier this summer, DeChambeau said he looked forward to talking some smack to McIlroy at the Ryder Cup. However, McIlroy brushed it off.

“I think the only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people,” McIlroy told The Guardian in an interview over the weekend. “That is basically what I think of that. To get attention he will mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others.”

The rivalry between McIlroy and DeChambeau has grown since their showdown at the Masters in April, where McIlroy won his first green jacket to complete the career Grand Slam. During that round, McIlroy was paired with DeChambeau, who struggled at Augusta National.

Afterward, DeChambeau told reporters he never spoke to McIlroy during the final round and found it odd. McIlroy, however, saw it differently. “I’m not going to try and be his best mate out there,” he said at the PGA Championship.

The feud reignited at the 2024 U.S. Open, where DeChambeau prevailed after McIlroy’s final-round collapse at Pinehurst No. 2. McIlroy’s outspoken opposition to LIV Golf, where DeChambeau now plays, has also fueled tension between the two stars.

That sets the stage for this week at Bethpage Black, where trash talk is expected both on the course and among the fans. The venue is anticipating about 50,000 spectators per day during the three-day tournament.
