White Sox’s $12M arm shares true feelings about Trevor Bauer’s character

Trevor Bauer, an American League Cy Young Award winner and All-Star, is undoubtedly talented on the mound. However, his outspoken attitude and off-field controversies have made him a polarizing figure in the baseball world.

On Tuesday’s episode of the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast, fellow starting pitcher Anthony Kay, who shared a clubhouse with Bauer while both played for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), offered his honest perspective on Bauer’s character.

“He was a great teammate for everyone,” Kay said (Timestamp: 21:10). “Obviously, he didn’t have the success that he wanted this year, but he was still an open book for everyone. He’s one of the smartest guys out there, as far as baseball goes. The fact that he was still willing to help out all the teammates despite the struggles that he had kind of showed me how good of a teammate he actually was.”

After two impressive seasons in NPB, Kay and the BayStars parted ways at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Soon after, Kay secured a return to Major League Baseball (MLB), signing a two-year, $12 million contract with the Chicago White Sox on December 9.

### Trevor Bauer’s Chances of Returning to MLB

Following his initial MLB stint, which ended amid off-field controversy, Bauer is currently classified as an unrestricted free agent. This status allows him to sign with any of the 30 MLB franchises. However, many analysts remain skeptical about his chances of returning to the big leagues.

Patrick Lyons, a Rockies analyst, shared his thoughts during the November 26 episode of ‘The Rockies Insider’ (Timestamp: 20:52). “Why aren’t any teams interested in Trevor Bauer? Something’s going on there, you’d have to think, right? No one is giving him a try,” Lyons said. “Personality-wise, Trevor Bauer is the exact opposite of the players the Rockies typically try to target. They like good soldiers; they like guys that don’t make too many waves.”

Lyons added, “Could be he’s a changed man. I think he probably deserves an opportunity, but I don’t know who’s going to give him that opportunity.” (Timestamp: 26:47)

At present, Bauer remains a free agent. Like Anthony Kay, he parted ways with the BayStars after the 2025 NPB season concluded. His next move remains uncertain as MLB teams weigh the pros and cons of offering him another chance in the majors.

“Devin Williams will thrive there” – MLB insider links star free agent closer to Yankees’ AL East rival

A two-time All-Star during his time with the Milwaukee Brewers, Devin Williams’ stint with the New York Yankees did not go as planned in 2025. The closer ended the regular season with a career-worst 4.79 ERA.

Despite his recent struggles, Williams, who is now a free agent, boasts an impressive 1.83 ERA over the last five seasons. This makes him a high-ceiling option for any team that can unlock his full potential.

During Thursday’s episode of the “Blair & Barker” podcast, insider Jeff Passan speculated that the Toronto Blue Jays could be the team to benefit from signing Williams.

“Devin Williams hits 94-87, so there’s a fastball there,” Passan said (36:30). “The changeup is just an awesome, awesome changeup. I think Williams is just a guy who has a nasty out-pitch that he can also land for strikes.”

Passan added, “I think Devin Williams would be a great addition for the Blue Jays, and I think he will thrive there. But I think it all depends on how much (Toronto Blue Jays owner) Edward Rogers is willing to throw into this organization.”

### Williams Defends His 2025 Performance

Though his ERA doesn’t paint a flattering picture, Williams finished within the top 4 percent of MLB players in strikeout rate, whiff rate, chase rate, and expected batting average — indicators of strong underlying performance.

Speaking to insider Will Sammon of The Athletic, Williams explained why his 2025 ERA was not an accurate reflection of his overall season.

“As far as my feel and my command, I even lowered my walk rate this year, even with kind of the way that the year went,” Williams said. “The statistics ended up the way they were because I had four or five blow-up games. They ended up scoring three or ended up scoring four.”

Williams continued, “I just wasn’t able to get out of it after one run. That contributed to why my ERA looks the way that it did. It wasn’t necessarily like I was bad in every game. It’s just when I had a bad game, it was terrible.”

### What’s Next for Devin Williams?

MLB Trade Rumors predicts that Williams could land a four-year deal this winter, potentially worth around $68 million. Given his track record and underlying metrics, the right team could turn Williams into a dominant closer once again.

Franco Colapinto lashes out at serial offender Lance Stroll for ‘taking out’ Gabriel Bortoleto in the F1 Brazilian GP

Franco Colapinto Opens Up About Gabriel Bortoleto’s Crash at 2025 Brazil GP

The 2025 Brazil Grand Prix proved to be a challenging weekend for Gabriel Bortoleto. The home favorite faced a series of setbacks, including a crash in the sprint race, the inability to participate in qualifying, and another crash during the main race. As the dust settled, Alpine driver Franco Colapinto brought renewed attention to the incident, pointing fingers at Lance Stroll for causing Bortoleto’s crash in São Paulo.

Speaking to the media, Colapinto shared his perspective on the incident:
“Stroll is just always taking people out, just not looking in the mirrors, leaving no track, and he put Gabi in the wall. I overtook two cars—it was Lewis [Hamilton] and Colapinto on the outside of turn six,” Bortoleto had recalled earlier.

Colapinto elaborated on the collision:
“It was a nice move. Then Lance, I was just side by side with him out of turn nine. There’s no pointing fingers here. It was just lap one, and I was on the outside. He opened a little bit more than there was space. He clipped my front tyre, and I ended up in the wall.”

He added, “I think it’s a racing incident. Obviously, if he had given a bit more space, I would have taken the corner and probably overtaken him because he had worse tyres than I did—I was on softs. But again, it’s a racing incident. He didn’t do it on purpose, I’m sure. Every time I fight with him, he’s fair with me. So it’s just racing.”

On lap one, Bortoleto struggled to find grip and track position while attempting an outside overtaking maneuver. Lance Stroll blocked his path, leading to contact between Stroll’s left rear tyre and Bortoleto’s front tyre. This caused Bortoleto to lose control and crash into the barrier. Despite the severity of the incident, Colapinto emphasized that it was a racing incident rather than a deliberate collision.

Franco Colapinto Reflects on Securing 2026 Alpine Seat

Following the Brazil GP, Alpine confirmed that Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly will remain with the team for the 2026 season. This decision maintains the same driver lineup as the current year.

Colapinto expressed his gratitude and optimism for the future:
“I am very grateful to Flavio and the entire team for their belief in me to help drive the team forwards in the future. It has been a long and tough road, and I am very proud for the opportunity to drive with this team again in 2026, alongside Pierre who has been a great teammate and undoubtedly someone I can continue to learn from.”

So far this season, after 21 races and five sprint events, Colapinto has yet to score points. Meanwhile, teammate Pierre Gasly sits 18th in the standings with 22 points. Alpine currently holds 10th place in the Constructors’ Championship with a total of 22 points.
