Dispatch’s episodic format respects your time and that’s a relief

The Shacknews staff was aware of AdHoc Studio, a team comprised of former developers from Telltale Games, Ubisoft, Night School Studio, and others. Still, *Dispatch* is a game that caught most of us by surprise.

With a release calendar filled with heavy AAA hitters and indie darlings, AdHoc’s debut almost slipped under our radar. It took Donovan Erskine jumping into Slack one day and asking if anybody else on staff had played it for the rest of us to start to take notice. Well, it took him a few tries. By the third time he asked, I finally said, “You know what? Enough people are talking about it, why not? Let’s give it a shot.”

There were many reasons why I’m glad I did, chief among them being that catching up with *Dispatch* hardly took any time at all. That’s a big difference from many of its companions and, honestly, should be the model for these types of stories going forward.

I went into *Dispatch* fairly cold, having only seen some promotional images. I was almost instantly dazzled by its polished animation style, one that looks like it would be at home on YouTube or the average streaming service. It looked like standard Telltale fare, but set in a world of superheroes.

After a lengthy cold open sequence, the story’s focus turned to Robert Robertson living his post-superhero life and eventually being recruited to act as a dispatcher to reformed supervillains. The introduction, the press conference scene, the subsequent bar scene, the meeting with Blonde Blazer, and its aftermath are all sequences I expected would take a lot of time to get through. Instead, when the credits started rolling on the first episode, I looked at my phone and saw that only an hour had passed.

I felt like I had gotten a full story experience, some satisfying gameplay sequences, and enough of a tease for what’s next — all in a matter of minutes.

Part of that efficiency can be attributed to AdHoc cutting one of the most time-consuming aspects of these games: the exploration. There’s no time spent walking around exploring Robert’s apartment, the dispatch headquarters, the bar, crime scenes, or anything else.

In the past, I was one of those people who would explore these areas thoroughly—checking every corner, talking to every NPC, interacting with every object. That could easily take 10 or 20 minutes. Even when Telltale was at the top of its game with classics like *The Walking Dead*, *The Wolf Among Us*, and *Tales from the Borderlands*, these exploration sections often ground the story to a halt. It was where these games dragged, sometimes for tens of minutes before the story would continue.

*Dispatch* doesn’t do that. There are no exploration sections at all, so the story keeps flowing seamlessly.

Instead, *Dispatch*’s gameplay revolves around the titular dispatch system—sending out individual heroes or teams from the available roster to citizens in need. It’s a system that flows elegantly and incorporates both story elements and additional gameplay ideas, such as hacking mini-games. These sections last just long enough to set the table for the next part of the story and no longer.

There are fair questions about how much the dispatch success rate really matters, but that’s a conversation for the full review.

Cutting out tedious exploration and refining the gameplay elements of a Telltale-style game is a major positive for *Dispatch*. It allows AdHoc to tell its story in a more streamlined way, trimming the overall runtime without compromising any narrative satisfaction.

There are still big choices to be made, there are still gameplay sections, and there are still those watercooler moments that made the best Telltale games such classics. Now, they’re executed in such a way that two episodes can be played in a single night.

It’s a big change from later Telltale games or modern Telltale-style games. I’m someone who loves and swears by the *Life is Strange* series, but there’s something about it shifting to full $50 self-contained stories that makes their newer efforts feel a little bloated.

All apologies to Max Caulfield, but that runtime doesn’t have me rushing back to catch up—not when there are so many other games to play. Add *Dispatch*’s weekly release schedule to the mix, and it’s fair to say that AdHoc is acutely aware of the current gaming climate.

There are so many games out there—many excellent ones like *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, *Hades 2*, *Hollow Knight: Silksong*—that demand dozens upon dozens of hours. There are only so many hours in the day, so it feels like a major plus that a game like *Dispatch* can tell its story in a satisfying way and get everyone on their way in just a few hours.

It knows what it wants to be, gets in, gets out, and ideally makes everyone happy. So far, everything is great.

The final episodes are set to release next week, and I’ve carved out the exact time to play them. Even if they don’t necessarily live up to my expectations, I can appreciate that *Dispatch* respects my busy life—and I hope other games like it will follow suit in the future.

Leftist Judges Rule Pedophile Has Constitutional Right to Taxpayer-Funded Sex Change Procedures

**Leftist Judges Rule Pedophile Has Constitutional Right to Taxpayer-Funded Sex Change Procedures**
*Moonbattery* | November 5, 2025 | Dave Blount

The lunacy imposed by leftist judges is beyond parody: A federal judge has ruled that the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) must provide laser hair removal, facial feminization surgery consultations, and voice therapy for a convicted pedophile who now identifies as transgender.

The inmate, identified as 47-year-old Brian Buckingham, was sentenced to more than 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing his 10-year-old son and producing child pornography.

For probably the first and hopefully the last time in human history, behavior like this is not considered to warrant the death penalty. These days, it warrants taxpayer-funded luxuries in support of what some describe as sexual depravity. Buckingham now calls himself “Nani Love.”

The pedophile’s lawyers argued that he has a constitutional right to force taxpayers to cater to his sexual identity and treatment needs.

In a September ruling, Magistrate Judge David Christel determined that Buckingham was “likely to succeed” in arguing that the BOP’s denial of treatment constituted cruel and unusual punishment.

The authors of the U.S. Constitution would likely gasp in horror at how their words have been interpreted and applied.

U.S. District Judge Ricardo Martinez later adopted Christel’s recommendation, issuing an order that directs the Bureau of Prisons to arrange consultations for the requested cosmetic procedures within 30 days.

We are effectively ruled from the bench by judges whose decisions many find deeply troubling.

Small Modular Reactors: Why Governments And Tech Giants Are Embracing SMRs

**Small Modular Reactors: De-Risking Nuclear Energy Through Factory Production**

Small modular reactors (SMRs) promise to reduce cost overruns and delays traditionally associated with nuclear power projects by utilizing factory production methods. This innovation is attracting significant attention from major technology companies and governments alike.

Tech giants are actively investing in the development and deployment of SMRs. Google has partnered with Kairos Power, Amazon has invested in X-energy, and Microsoft has secured output from a recently restarted nuclear reactor. Such collaborations highlight the growing confidence in SMRs as a key component of future energy systems.

Governments view SMRs as essential for enhancing energy security while meeting climate commitments. According to an analysis by Arthur D. Little, SMRs must achieve levelised costs of electricity (LCOE) between €52 and €119 per megawatt-hour to compete with other baseload energy sources under current market conditions.

As the world strives to reach net-zero carbon targets, a constant and reliable electricity supply is critical. While renewable energy sources provide part of the solution, their intermittency remains a challenge. Nuclear reactors produce electricity consistently, irrespective of weather conditions, and emit significantly lower carbon emissions compared to hydrocarbon-based power generation.

Traditional nuclear plants, however, have faced challenges such as high upfront costs and construction delays. SMRs offer a promising alternative by potentially overcoming these obstacles through modular, scalable production techniques.

Bertuzzi’s third-period hat trick leads Blackhawks past Canucks 5-2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Tyler Bertuzzi scored three goals in the third period for his fourth career hat trick, leading the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night.

Bertuzzi opened the scoring just over three minutes into the third period, deflecting a long shot from Matt Grzelcyk with his skate at the side of the net. All seven goals in the game were scored in the third period.

Ilya Mikheyev also scored for the Blackhawks, while Connor Bedard added an empty-net goal and an assist. Bedard has now stretched his point streak to six games, recording five goals and six assists over that span. Ryan Donato contributed two assists for Chicago. Goaltender Spencer Knight stopped 43 shots in the win, which snapped Chicago’s three-game losing streak.

For the Canucks, Aatu Raty and Evander Kane found the back of the net. Despite being outshot 45-28 by Chicago, Vancouver’s Kevin Lankinen made 23 saves.

Canucks winger Conor Garland returned to the lineup after missing three games with an undisclosed injury. Vancouver still has five players on its injured reserve list; however, assistant coach Brett McLean said after Wednesday’s morning skate that forwards Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Teddy Blueger are expected to begin practicing soon in noncontact jerseys.

Up next:

– Blackhawks: Visit Calgary on Friday.
– Canucks: Host Columbus on Saturday.

Mapping a Democratic sweep across Virginia, New Jersey and New York – News India Times

Voters shifted sharply to the left across Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City in elections held Tuesday, November 4, 2025, sweeping Democrats into office. These candidates focused on affordability and capitalized on growing frustration with President Donald Trump.

More than 2 million New York City voters—the highest turnout since 1969—turned out to elect a democratic socialist as mayor, rejecting a former governor who was once a standard-bearer for the Democratic Party.

Four years ago, Republicans enjoyed a wave of support that gave them the governorship in Virginia and made the New Jersey race much closer than Democrats had expected. Meanwhile, a moderate Democrat replaced a more liberal one in New York City Hall. This time, however, the political energy in all three places shifted distinctly toward Democrats and the left wing of the party.

### Virginia: A Leftward Shift Across the State

In every county and independent city in Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger outperformed Terry McAuliffe—the Democrat who lost to Republican Glenn Youngkin in the 2021 gubernatorial race. According to a Washington Post analysis, Spanberger exceeded McAuliffe’s vote share by a median of 13 percentage points across these areas.

She also outperformed Kamala Harris, last year’s Democratic presidential nominee, in more than 95 percent of Virginia’s counties and independent cities, topping her vote share by a median of three percentage points.

Spanberger flipped six counties or independent cities that Trump had won in 2024, including three that had shifted from President Joe Biden to Trump—Prince Edward, Surry, and Lynchburg.

Her gains were comprehensive, spanning rural, suburban, and urban areas. Spanberger won both Democratic strongholds and swing areas, while also chipping into traditionally Republican counties. Notably, she secured large margins in the Washington D.C., Richmond, and Virginia Beach metropolitan areas. Whereas McAuliffe won those regions by 251,000 votes in 2021, Spanberger was leading them by about 700,000 votes based on incomplete tallies available as of Wednesday morning.

She also flipped 15 counties that McAuliffe had lost, most located in metropolitan areas such as Virginia Beach, Stafford, and Spotsylvania—counties that Youngkin won by large margins in 2021. In other areas, she lost by smaller margins than McAuliffe, outperforming him by nearly 20 points in Republican-dominated Southwest Virginia, including Bristol and Montgomery.

Spanberger dominated Loudoun County, winning it by 29 percentage points compared to McAuliffe’s 11-point win there four years ago, and Harris’s 16-point margin last year.

Similarly, Jay Jones, who won the attorney general’s race but lagged behind Spanberger, outperformed Harris’s margin in Loudoun County, winning by 19 points despite bipartisan condemnations related to violent texts he authored years ago.

### New Jersey: Solid Democratic Support

In New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill won by a much wider margin than Governor Phil Murphy (D), who narrowly secured a second term four years ago. Both faced Republican Jack Ciattarelli, but Sherrill secured a more comfortable victory by earning significant support across the state.

Sherrill outpaced both Murphy and Harris in every county. Her strongest performances compared to Harris came in counties that had shifted most toward Trump in 2024, including Passaic and Hudson counties, where Latinos make up over 40 percent of the population.

Trump had made notable gains in these counties last year and flipped Passaic. However, Sherrill won both counties, outperforming Harris by 11 points in Hudson and by nine points in Passaic. She also won four other counties that Trump carried the previous year.

### New York City: A Democratic Socialist Victory

In New York City, 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist and member of the State Assembly, defeated former governor Andrew M. Cuomo by a larger margin on Tuesday than he did in the Democratic primary five months ago.

Mamdani expanded his earlier coalition of younger, college-educated, and liberal voters in Manhattan and nearby gentrifying neighborhoods. He performed particularly well in precincts with fewer voters over age 60, where turnout was higher in this election compared to 2021.

He carried four of the city’s five boroughs in early, unofficial results, with Cuomo carrying only Staten Island, the city’s most conservative borough—one that Trump had won in each of his elections.

Cuomo attempted to rebuild the coalition formed by Mayor Eric Adams four years ago, which primarily included non-White and conservative-leaning voters in the outer boroughs. Cuomo gained additional support after Adams withdrew from the race and Trump endorsed him at the last minute, encouraging Republicans to abandon their nominee, Curtis Sliwa.

Despite this, the strategy failed. Cuomo lost by a wider margin than Sliwa’s total vote share.

In the Bronx, Mamdani made his strongest gains relative to Cuomo in the general election. Cuomo’s supporters had sought to weaken Mamdani’s momentum by highlighting his criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza.

Mamdani, who aims to become New York City’s first Muslim mayor and its youngest in a century, managed to draw widespread support across the city and made significant inroads in areas where Trump had gained ground last year.

He increased his support among Black and Hispanic voters, gaining 35 percentage points in areas with a Black plurality and 11 points in Hispanic neighborhoods compared with the primary.

### Looking Ahead

Democrats interpret these off-year election victories as a clear sign that voters are unhappy with President Trump and are ready to deliver them the House majority in next year’s midterm elections. Currently, Republicans hold a narrow 219-213 majority in the House, and several races could be pivotal in determining the chamber’s control.
