5 habits to boost your focus in the morning

**5 Habits to Boost Your Focus in the Morning**
*By Anujj Trehaan | Sep 30, 2025, 10:59 AM*

Mornings set the tone for the rest of the day, so establishing a focus-boosting routine can do wonders for your productivity. By adding a few simple habits to your morning, you can improve concentration and mental clarity. These practices are easy to follow and can be adapted to fit different lifestyles.

Here are five effective habits to help you stay focused throughout the day:

### 1. Start with Hydration
Drinking water first thing in the morning is essential to kickstart your metabolism and rehydrate your body after hours of sleep. Dehydration can impair cognitive functions, making it hard to concentrate. A glass of water or herbal tea can do wonders for your hydration levels and help set a positive tone for the day.

### 2. Practice Mindful Breathing
Mindful breathing exercises are a great way to calm your mind and increase focus. Spend five minutes on deep breathing, concentrating on each breath as it enters and leaves your body. This practice reduces stress and boosts mental clarity, making it easier to concentrate on tasks later in the day.

### 3. Set Clear Intentions
Setting clear intentions for the day helps you stay focused on what matters most. Take a few minutes each morning to write down three key tasks or goals you want to accomplish by day’s end. Having a clear direction keeps you focused and prevents distractions from derailing your progress.

### 4. Engage in Light Physical Activity
Light physical activity, such as stretching or a short walk, gets your blood flowing and wakes up your body and mind. This boosts energy levels and improves your mood, making you more receptive to focusing on tasks throughout the day.

### 5. Limit Digital Distractions
Limiting your exposure to digital devices in the morning is key to maintaining focus all day long. Instead of immediately checking emails or social media updates, dedicate this time to personal development activities like reading or journaling. These promote mindfulness without digital interference.

Incorporate these habits into your morning routine to enhance your focus and productivity. Remember, consistency is key!

You cannot say words like that

I really feel that no matter what the complaints and grievances are, or how strong the feelings run, there’s some value in being civil. Words like **assh-le** don’t belong in a chat like this.

There was a whiplash reaction to being told not to swear. In civil, smiling Thailand, where I live, you won’t hear much scatology. But to English-speaking expatriates, being asked to communicate without swearing feels like a violation of a fundamental freedom.

With swear words suddenly in the spotlight, I began paying attention to casual references to faeces, genitals, and other private parts in daily conversation. Fair warning: the rest of this column may be peppered with words that make some queasy. Out of respect, I will misspell the really gross ones. If I write *fcuk*, please don’t be baffled—or offended.

A beloved favourite is **shit**, a Swiss Army knife of a four-letter word that can stand in for just about any other word you choose.

– If you’re the boss man, you’re a big shit.
– If you’re a celebrity, you’re hot shit.
– Be authentic, genuine, and you’ll be the real shit.
– If you care for someone, you give a shit.
– Be a unicorn, and they’ll say you’re doing next-level shit.
– “Have you seen my shit anywhere?” will be correctly understood as “Where did I leave my things?”
– If things are not looking good, it’s a shitshow.
– If it’s dire, it’s a shitstorm.
– If they’ve called the police, then the shit has hit the fan.

The world swears, and the words are always intimate and crude. I’d expect India to lead, as it does in every other sphere. We are the country that has made a science out of defiling mothers and sisters when we swear.

However, just like **shit** in English, India’s *ma-bahen* variants are offensive, signal an escalation of emotions, and can lead to war. Of course, that’s what makes them useful.

In July, I came upon a scholarly dissertation on filthy words used in chit-chat, called *Vulgarity in Online Discourse around the English-speaking World*. The authors looked at 20 English-speaking countries, including an inner circle (e.g., the US, UK, Australia) and an outer circle (India, Nigeria, Singapore).

They labelled a word as vulgar if it had more acceptable variants. For example, *fcuk* has alternatives like “sleep with someone” or “make love.” Similarly, words like *butt* and *arse* have more circumspect cousins like *behind* and *bottom*.

Vulgar language, they noted, is the natural playground for unleashing our linguistic creativity. Consider colourful juxtapositions like *dcikhead*. The study analysed more than 1.7 billion words of online language, identifying 597 different swear word forms, including creative spellings like *4rseholes* and acronyms like *wtf*.

The top three most vulgar countries in the list were the USA, UK, Australia—and a surprise: Singapore.

The US is thrice as vulgar online as India in English, with vulgar words making up 0.36 per cent of all the words from their dataset. The most frequent word was *fcuk*, with a stunning 201 variants.

So why even discuss the cuss culture?

Because swearing requires becoming numb to the real meaning of a word. A person who says, “Hey, I’m in a restaurant eating shit right now, but I’ll see you soon,” has blocked what that word stands for in reality—or else he would have barfed.

We are able to throw around words like *shitstorm* and *hot shit* only because we have stopped paying attention to what they actually mean. It’s like saying, “Love you too,” without remembering what love means when your significant other says, “I love you.”

I taught a 10-year-old child with Asperger’s Syndrome for six months. He was clever to the point of brilliance, but every third word he said was a *fcuk*. I told him that, IMHO, people who used just one or two words for everything they wanted to say were probably not very intelligent.

This riled him, and he agreed to think of alternatives to *fcuk*. The following day, however, he came empty-handed.

“I fcuking forgot,” he told me cheekily. “I was fcuking playing video games all fcuking evening.”

“In that case,” I said, “I’d like you to spend the next two hours creating alternatives to that word.”

He gave me a broad, definitely devilish smile.

“No wucking furries,” he said.

Tyler Reddick’s wife Alexa provides health update on son Rookie after transfusion

Two-time Xfinity Series champion Tyler Reddick recently competed in the Cup Series race, the Hollywood Casino 400 Presented by ESPN Bet at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, September 28, 2025. However, there was something else weighing heavily on his mind besides crossing the finish line in first place—his four-month-old son was hospitalized.

In a heartfelt story, Mrs. Reddick was seen holding their infant son, Rookie, who was connected to multiple health monitoring machines. Despite the serious situation, Rookie looked much better in the image and even posed with a smile on his face. The infant had undergone a transfusion after showing signs of heart failure at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was admitted to the cardiovascular intensive care unit for extensive testing.

Reflecting on Rookie’s improved condition, Tyler Reddick’s wife shared an encouraging update, captioning the story:
“Came off oxygen today, got some answers & perked right up after a transfusion!”

In a follow-up message, Rookie was seen playing with his blanket in the intensive care unit, and Alexa expressed her gratitude to everyone for their support. She wrote:
“He’s saying thank you all for your prayers & kind messages!”

Despite the emotional strain of his son’s critical condition, Tyler Reddick still competed in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, finishing among the top ten drivers. He secured a P7 finish after qualifying 12th in the grueling 267-lap race.

### The Story Behind Rookie’s Name: A Bet During NASCAR Xfinity Series Days

Tyler Reddick and his wife Alexa named their first son after a friendly bet made during his NASCAR Xfinity Series days.

Back in 2019, Alexa was pregnant with their first child while Tyler was competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship for Richard Childress Racing. At that time, the couple disagreed on what to name their baby boy. Tyler wanted to name him Beau, while Alexa was set on the name Ryker.

To settle the disagreement, Alexa suggested making a bet. She proposed that if Tyler won the championship, he would earn the right to name their firstborn son.

“I thought it was cute, but that was not my first choice,” Alexa recalled. “I was pretty stuck on Ryker at that point, and he was not hopping on that train. If you know Tyler, once he gets his mind on something, it’s stuck.”

After a strong season with JR Motorsports in 2018, Tyler stepped up his game in 2019. Racing for Richard Childress Racing, he secured six wins and claimed his second Xfinity Series title.

“I don’t know what came over me,” Alexa admitted. “I guess pregnancy brain is a real thing, and one day I was like, ‘Listen, you win this championship, you can name him whatever you want, but I don’t want you calling him anything until you are in victory lane holding up that championship trophy in Miami.’ I shook on it, and here we are, and now the baby’s name is going to be Beau.”

Tyler Reddick currently competes for 23XI Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. This season, he is battling to secure his spot in the Round of Eight, currently sitting 29 points below the cutoff line as the playoffs continue.

Despite the challenges on and off the track, Reddick remains determined to compete at the highest level for his family and fans alike.

Episode 2: Inside the Fight Against Mamdani

**WalkAway Campaign YouTube Channel**
*September 29, 2025*

Brand stated, “My button says ‘End the smear and do the shmear’ for Mamdani with a bagel and cream cheese.” This was a strategic response to Erin Burnett’s question: *“How can Jewish voters vote for you given the past accusations of your being anti-Semitic and pro-Palestinian?”*

His answer continued: *“Voters know I stand for all the policies overall that mean lower food prices and better lives for them.”* However, many felt this was not a sufficient answer.

**A Jewish Voter’s Concern**

“But, but why do I get pushed into this van with the others? I’m a Jewish voter who voted for Mamdani,” expressed one concerned individual.

**Comment by frank ballenger**
*“There’s a battle outside and it’s raging. It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls.”*

**Response to frank ballenger**

“Hes such a phony. He fabricated an entire load of BS as a response to constant messages telling him ‘the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim.’ Fighting back tears, he says:

*‘My focus has always been on making this a city that’s affordable, on making the city that every New Yorker sees themselves in. And it pains me to be painted as if I am somehow in opposition to the very Jewish New Yorkers that I know and love and are such a key part of this city.’*

What a fraud. What a liar.

He supports the killers of Jews in Israel. He is in a religion that, as claimed by the poster, requires endless jihad, commands followers to kill Jews, condemns non-believers to slave status, and allows followers to lie, cheat, kill, and steal to achieve world domination. They label him a communist, “which is just as deadly and sinister as his Muslim cult.”

Hugo Ekitike reckons Alexander Isak competition will boost him at Liverpool

Hugo Ekitike believes Alexander Isak’s presence will aid his development as the young striker welcomed the increased competition at Liverpool.

Arne Slot’s Premier League champions made waves in the summer transfer window, with the 23-year-old Ekitike following the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez to Anfield. Ekitike joined from Frankfurt in a deal worth £69 million plus a potential £10 million (approximately €11.45 million) in add-ons and has hit the ground running, scoring five goals in eight appearances across all competitions.

But Liverpool maintained a strong interest in Newcastle sharpshooter Isak throughout the summer and secured the striker for a British record £125 million on deadline day.

“I think it’s good to have players in such a big club,” Ekitike said. “I can’t see one big club playing with only one striker, so I think it’s good that he’s here. Even for me at my age, I think I still have a lot of things to improve and learn, so for me it’s good that he’s here.”

He added, “As for if we can play together, that’s for the coach to decide how he wants to play. That’s not me. But obviously, he’s a great player. I’ve been playing in two-striker compositions and one-striker systems, so I can do a lot of things. If we have to play together, I can do that.”

Ekitike certainly appears to be loving life at Liverpool, having joined despite interest from the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle.

“It was just the best choice,” he said. “You know, it’s the champions of England. For me, they have great players, a great history. It just fitted with what I was looking for after Frankfurt.”

Ekitike was speaking on the eve of Liverpool’s Champions League match at Galatasaray, where the young striker is in line to make his first appearance since last Tuesday’s embarrassing sending-off.

The Frenchman replaced Isak at half-time of the Carabao Cup clash against Southampton and went on to score a late winner. He famously removed his shirt and held it up to the cameras in celebration. However, the substitute had already been booked and received what Slot called a “stupid red card” that ruled him out of Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace.

“I think that wasn’t smart,” Ekitike admitted. “Obviously, I punished myself alone, I’d say. I felt a bit disappointed to watch the boys from home last Saturday, but as I said on Instagram, I apologise to everybody already, to my teammates. That kind of thing won’t happen again. I just move on now. I am just looking forward to playing and I just focus on football.”

Ekitike will hope to make amends in Istanbul, where Liverpool arrived without Federico Chiesa due to what Slot described as a “little niggle.” The Liverpool boss did not want to take any risks ahead of Saturday’s trip to Chelsea—a match he hopes to approach on the back of a morale-boosting victory against Galatasaray.

“I think we always have to do, no matter if you win, lose, or draw, what is asked of you if you want to compete for trophies, but let alone if you wear a Liverpool shirt,” Slot said. “That is giving everything you have and combining that with the best football you can play.”

“We created more chances during the course of the game, more chances than we had in all the three games we played before against Palace, but we also conceded many more chances than we did before. So we can improve, and the things we can improve I will show tonight to the players.”

Emerald Fennell Defends Casting Margot Robbie & Jacob Elordi in ‘Wuthering Heights’ After Fan Pushback

Emerald Fennell has doubled down on her decision to cast Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in her film adaptation of *Wuthering Heights*, despite receiving pushback from fans over the choice.

The Oscar winner shared insight into her casting decisions while speaking at the Brontë Women’s Writing Festival on Friday. She acknowledged the huge responsibility she felt in adapting Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel for the big screen.

“It’s very personal material for everyone,” Fennell said.

Speaking at the festival held in Brontë’s hometown of West Yorkshire, Fennell revealed she had been obsessed with the book in her teens. One past edition of the novel even inspired her casting of Elordi. Fennell explained that she asked the *Euphoria* star to play the brooding Heathcliff while on the set of *Saltburn*, as he looked exactly like the illustration of Heathcliff in the first book she ever read.

Per the BBC, she added, “I had been thinking about making it [*Wuthering Heights*], and it seemed to me he had the thing… he’s a very surprising actor.”

However, fans of Brontë’s novel did not necessarily agree with this casting choice. Heathcliff is notably described as dark-skinned in the book, and the casting of the white Elordi sparked an outcry online, with some accusing the new adaptation of whitewashing the role.

There was also frustration among fans over the casting of Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw, Heathcliff’s love interest, who is a teenager in the novel. Since Robbie is 35 years old, many felt she was too old for the role.

Fennell, however, made it clear she disagreed. She said Robbie was unlike anyone she had ever met, which was exactly what she needed for the role of Cathy.

“I mean, Margot’s beauty is something else,” Fennell joked. “She could commit a killing spree and nobody would mind. And that is who Cathy is to me.”

“Cathy is somebody who just pushes to see how far she can go,” Fennell continued. “So it needed somebody like Margot, who’s a star—not just an incredible actress, which she is, but somebody who has a power, an otherworldly power, a Godlike power, that means people lose their minds.”

*Wuthering Heights* arrives in theaters nationwide on February 13, and internationally starting on February 11.

Asia shares, gold rise on US shutdown watch

Oil prices declined recently amid expectations of an increase in OPEC production. Market participants anticipate that the organization will boost output, putting downward pressure on crude prices.

Meanwhile, China’s manufacturing activity has contracted for the sixth consecutive month, highlighting ongoing challenges in the sector. This persistent slowdown contributes to concerns about the broader economic recovery in the region.

In European markets, Euro Stoxx 50 futures dipped during early trading, reflecting investor caution amid these global economic developments. Traders are closely monitoring how these factors will influence market sentiment moving forward.
