### Construction of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Facility at Holman Field

Construction crews have obtained a building permit to add a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility at Holman Field, St. Paul’s downtown municipal airport. Shaw Lundquist Associates was issued a permit on November 4 for the $15.6 million project located at 670 Bayfield St.

The new facility, currently planned on a vacant lot between two 3M hangars and the administrative building housing the Holman’s Table restaurant and bar on the airport’s north end, will cover 4,800 square feet. It is designed to process 100 to 150 international flights per year, totaling approximately 200 operational hours.

Customs staff will travel from Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport to this location for expected international flight arrivals.

Planning documents indicate the building will achieve LEED Gold certification and feature a green roof. In May, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) announced it would begin construction on this stand-alone CBP facility to enhance international passenger and cargo processing.

Jeff Lea, MAC spokesperson, confirmed that construction is underway. In July, Finance and Commerce reported that the MAC received five construction bids exceeding the initial $12.24 million estimate.

The project, funded through federal and state grants and General Airport Revenue bonds, will include:
– Pre-processing and post-processing waiting rooms
– Passenger processing area
– Office space
– Utility rooms and restrooms

The building’s construction will utilize cast-in-place concrete, mass timber columns and beams, a structural wood ceiling and roof, and a 1,000-square-foot intensive green roof system.

Sustainability features include geothermal heat pumps, air handlers, and solar panels. According to Lea, “The building is designed to produce more energy than it uses.”

Additional site improvements involve new utility connections, sidewalks, native plantings, decorative metal fencing, and landscaping enhancements.

The project also includes modifications to a mile-long pavement section originally installed in the 1980s, featuring upgraded lighting and surface drainage.

Acadia is winding down for winter just as the government might reopen

Though the federal shutdown could soon end, operations at Acadia National Park are expected to continue winding down for the winter.

The U.S. House of Representatives was expected to meet Wednesday to vote on ending the 43-day-long shutdown, but winter weather has taken precedence over the potential reopening of Maine’s only national park. On Veterans Day, snow led the park to close Summit Road on Cadillac Mountain, according to the park’s website.

Acadia does not require reservations for driving up the summit starting in November, but how late in the season the road remains open depends on weather conditions. The road may reopen before the end of the month if warmer weather melts away the ice and snow; however, it is typically closed for the winter each December 1.

Despite the shutdown, Acadia was busy in early October when the tourist season was still in full swing. Some facilities were closed due to reduced staffing caused by the shutdown, but popular attractions such as the summit of Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and the Jordan Pond House remained open.

The fare-free Island Explorer Bus System, which is operated by the nonprofit group Downeast Transportation, also continued to operate during the shutdown.

Visitation to Acadia has been high this year and was on pace to exceed four million visits for only the second time ever, after first surpassing four million in 2021. The park recorded its highest number of visits for any month in July 2023, then broke that record in August.

However, the park has not released monthly visit estimates for September (before the shutdown went into effect on October 1) and has not been collecting visitation data since that date. As a result, visitation estimates for October are not expected.

Typically, visitation drops sharply in November, although the park never fully closes for the winter. The Ocean Drive section of Park Loop Road usually remains open to vehicles year-round, as do the park’s hiking trails. Additionally, the Schoodic Loop Road in the Schoodic section of the park, located on the east side of Frenchman Bay, is open throughout the winter.

The Visitors’ Center in Hulls Cove will remain closed regardless of shutdown developments, as it normally closes at the end of October. The Sieur de Monts Nature Center and the Rockefeller Welcome Center at Schoodic Point are also not expected to reopen until next spring.

Park campgrounds shut down each October, and facilities run by concession companies—including the Jordan Pond House, the Thunder Hole Gift Shop, and Wildwoods Stables—have also closed for the winter season.

Alexander brothers ordered to face sex trafficking charges after judge delivers major blow in 60-victim rape case

**Sex-Trafficking Prosecution of Luxury Real Estate Brokers Alexander Brothers to Proceed After Federal Judge’s Ruling**

The sex-trafficking prosecution of luxury real estate brokers Tal and Oren Alexander, along with their brother Alon, can move ahead after a federal judge rejected most of their attempts to dismiss the charges.

Manhattan federal Judge Valerie Caproni ruled on Tuesday that the allegations against the Alexander brothers—accused of dozens of instances of rape and sexual assault spanning more than a decade—are legally sufficient to proceed to trial.

The decision, originally issued on October 17 but kept under seal until Tuesday, marks a significant setback for the defense team’s efforts to derail the case before it reaches a jury.

**Allegations and Charges**

Prosecutors say more than 60 women have reported being sexually assaulted by one or more of the brothers, with 11 new victims coming forward through civil lawsuits.

The Alexanders face 10 felony counts, including conspiracy and sex trafficking. They have pleaded not guilty and remain in custody since their December arrest.

Authorities allege that from 2009 through 2021, the brothers conspired to drug, sexually assault, and rape dozens of women, luring them with luxury hotel stays, international travel, and exclusive event access.

In some instances, victims were transported across state and international lines, then drugged and physically restrained before being raped, according to the indictment.

**Examples of Alleged Incidents**

One woman recounted meeting Oren Alexander at a luxurious Miami house party in 2018. After striking up a conversation, he offered to give her a tour of the property, led her to a bedroom, then “aggressively threw her onto the bed and forcibly sexually assaulted her,” she claims in her lawsuit.

In another incident, a woman said she was invited to a New York City house party hosted by Tal Alexander in July 2013. After being handed an alcoholic beverage, she felt “lightheaded and disoriented” and alleges she was forcibly raped by both Tal and Oren Alexander.

**Defense Arguments and Judge’s Ruling**

The brothers’ lawyers argued that the charges were too vague, lacked specificity, and, in some cases, were beyond the statute of limitations. However, Judge Caproni dismissed most of these arguments.

She did narrow one attempted sex-trafficking count from June 2009, ruling it barred by the statute of limitations. Yet, the actual sex-trafficking charge from the same incident remains intact, with the judge acknowledging this “may create an anomalous result.”

**Evidence and Search Warrants**

Judge Caproni also denied the Alexander brothers’ requests to suppress evidence seized from a New York apartment, cloud storage files, and a Facebook account, allowing this evidence to be used at trial.

Authorities executed a warrant in December to search Tal Alexander’s apartment in a Manhattan skyscraper on “Billionaire’s Row.” Several hard drives were seized, including one containing a large quantity of sexually explicit videos and photos.

Prosecutors state these videos depict Alon and Oren Alexander, along with other men, engaged in sexual contact with women “who are visibly under the influence of alcohol or other substances.” In several cases, at least one brother and another man “physically manipulated the women’s bodies to have sex with them while the women did not actively participate or turned away.”

**Background and Legal Proceedings**

The brothers were first arrested in Florida in December 2024 on an initial indictment charging one count of sex-trafficking conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking. A grand jury issued a superseding indictment in May, followed by another superseding indictment in June, leading to their re-arrest at the courthouse.

Oren and Tal Alexander made names as luxury real estate agents at Douglas Elliman before founding their own firm, Official, in 2022. Alon, Oren’s twin brother, worked at a family-owned security company. Tal Alexander, the eldest, is not a twin.

**Civil Lawsuits and Defense Claims**

In addition to criminal charges, the brothers face multiple civil lawsuits from women with similar allegations. Defense attorneys have dismissed these suits as “cash grabs,” accusing high-profile personal injury firm Morgan & Morgan of “dictating” the criminal investigation.

“For months, we’ve watched orchestrated efforts encouraging women to profit from past sexual experiences with the Alexander brothers,” said Tal Alexander’s attorneys Milton Williams and Deanna Paul. “These frivolous lawsuits, filed days before the law’s look-back window is set to expire, are a transparent attempt at a cash grab.”

**Current Status**

The Alexander brothers remain held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, the same facility currently housing the alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killer, Luigi Mangione.

**Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman Gives Honest Assessment of Team’s Struggles**

The Edmonton Oilers have had a lacklustre start to the 2025-26 NHL season, holding a 7-6-4 record and sitting fifth in the Pacific Division, trailing behind teams like the Anaheim Ducks and the LA Kings. While the Oilers have showcased some strong performances, consistency remains elusive.

Speaking on Tuesday in Toronto after the NHL’s annual November GM meetings, General Manager Stan Bowman gave an honest evaluation of the team’s performance so far. “Sort of the way our team has been. I don’t know if they performed really any differently than our forwards and our defence. We’re just not clicking as a group. That position gets more attention. I’m not sure it’s more of a problem,” Bowman said, indirectly addressing concerns about the team’s goaltending without placing full blame on any individual.

**Goaltending Challenges**

Starting goaltender Stuart Skinner has appeared in 12 games this season, posting a 5-4-3 record with a 2.91 goals-against average (GAA) and an .883 save percentage. Bowman emphasized that inconsistency has affected the entire team: “We’ve had ups and downs throughout with both goalies, the defence and the forwards. It would probably be clearer if [goaltending was] costing us games night after night, but that’s just not it. We’ve had other things that have been costing us just as much.”

**Team Offense and Defense**

Offensively, Edmonton averages 3.06 goals per game, but defensively, they allow 3.47 goals against per game, highlighting ongoing concerns in defensive play. On the positive side, their power play remains a bright spot, ranking third in the NHL at an impressive 32.6 percent success rate.

Captain Connor McDavid leads the team with 24 points this season, continuing to be a critical driver for the Oilers’ offense.

**Oilers’ Recent Overtime Win Over Columbus**

The Oilers snapped their three-game losing streak with a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday. Jack Roslovic scored the game-winning goal just 56 seconds into overtime.

Connor McDavid was instrumental in the comeback, scoring two goals in the third period and inspiring the team down the stretch. After the game, coach Kris Knoblauch praised McDavid’s effort, saying, “He just willed the team to win.”

Pat McAfee Links Brian Daboll to High-Profile College Coaching Job

Football fans have quickly begun speculating about what may be next for former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll after he was let go by the organization on Monday. This led former NFL punter Pat McAfee to suggest a potential fit for Daboll at the collegiate level.

Daboll hasn’t coached collegiately since briefly serving as an offensive coordinator under Nick Saban at Alabama in 2017. Notably, this lone season with the Crimson Tide was a wildly successful one, helping the program win a National Championship.

With no prior head coaching experience at the college level, Daboll isn’t exactly the first name that comes to mind for most when it comes to some of the top head coaching vacancies across college football. However, Pat McAfee shared why he believes Daboll could be a “home run” hire for Penn State athletic director Patrick Kraft.

“Daboll getting fired from the Giants seemingly opens the door for Penn State to make a move that everybody will like up there,” McAfee said on Wednesday’s edition of *The Pat McAfee Show*. “I assume Pat Kraft and everybody that’s making the decision is like, ‘Hold the phone, we got a guy who wants to be here very, very bad seemingly and has a big name.’ That could be a home run for them. We would like to say to Daboll, if you go to Penn State college football would be pumped. He would be electrifying.”

McAfee’s comments come after a photo surfaced of Daboll wearing a Penn State hoodie following his firing from the Giants, naturally sparking plenty of speculation that he may at least have an interest in the job.

It’s possible that fans may be reading too much into Daboll wearing Penn State apparel. However, there are notable ties within the Daboll family to the program. His son, Christian Daboll, spent three seasons as a student coach with the Nittany Lions before ultimately joining his father on the Giants coaching staff.

While it remains unclear whether Penn State has any interest in hiring Daboll, it certainly seems that the Nittany Lions would be near the top of his list if he is open to a return to college coaching.

More NFL opportunities could also emerge as we approach the end of the 2025 NFL regular season. At this point, it truly seems like everything may still be on the table for Daboll as he figures out his future in coaching.

Scott Boras Speaks: Useful Imai Info, Cease Comments, Less Useful (But Mildly Entertaining) Puns

The tortured Scott Boras puns have become fun at this point, haven’t they? We expect them from the super-agent at national baseball gatherings, and he delivers two-parts corny, one-part clever zingers while holding court with the media. And, occasionally, he mixes in some actually useful info.

Boras spoke today at the GM Meetings in Las Vegas, and I’ll start with the useful info: Boras said that Japanese ace Tatsuya Imai will be posted on November 19, starting his 45-day window to sign with an MLB team. The timing makes sense, coming a day after Qualifying Offer decisions are due (which clarifies the top of the market a bit), and will give Imai some time into the New Year to finalize a deal.

My hope is that the Cubs will be involved. “He loves big markets … he is someone who really wants to be on a winning team and compete at the highest level,” Boras said about the Japanese pitcher.

Yurok Tribe, Round Valley Indians Sign Treaty of Friendship in Advance of Potential Eel River Dam Removal

In a historic milestone, two sovereign Indian tribes have joined forces to reverse decades of fisheries decline on the Eel River, the second longest river in California.

On October 28, 2025, the Round Valley Indian Tribes and the Yurok Tribe met at the Wildlands Conservancy’s Eel River Canyon Preserve and signed a Treaty of Friendship that pledges their joint efforts to restore the Eel River.

“The Eel River is our lifeblood and when it suffers, our people suffer,” said Round Valley Indian Tribes President Joe Parker after signing the agreement within the ancestral territory of the tribes on the Eel River. “We are pleased to join with the Yurok Tribe, which is the leader in restoring the Klamath River through dam removal, revegetation, and habitat restoration,” he added.

“With this partnership, we hope all Native tribes around the world will be motivated to stand up and fight for their culture and rights,” he noted.

“We are honored to contribute the extensive knowledge and experience we have gained through Klamath River dam removal with our relatives from the Round Valley Indian Tribes,” said Joseph L. James, Chairman of the Yurok Tribe. “Together, we are uplifting our communities and forging a new path that aligns with our shared cultural values.”

The Treaty of Friendship will facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise between the two tribes and foster collaboration on restoration projects on the Eel River.

One major focus of these efforts is the Potter Valley Hydroelectric Project, whose dams currently block several hundred miles of critical fishery habitat. Owned by PG&E, the project is being decommissioned. These ecological barriers have contributed significantly to the decline of imperiled salmon, steelhead, and Pacific lamprey populations.

The removal of these dams presents a unique opportunity to restore the Eel River to the healthy, free-flowing river it once was. The Yurok Tribe’s experience in restoring salmon runs on the Klamath River will provide valuable guidance in achieving similar success on the Eel River.

“Based on the Klamath River and hundreds of other dam removals across the United States, we expect the Eel River to heal quickly once the river runs free,” said Chairman James.

The Round Valley Indian Tribes have lived along the Eel River since time immemorial. Like the Yurok Tribe, they have suffered incalculable cultural, subsistence, economic, and community injuries due to the collapse of the fishery.

With dam removal and comprehensive restoration efforts planned for the watershed, the tribes and fisheries experts anticipate native fish runs will gradually recover.

The Treaty of Friendship formally brings the Yurok Tribe into this process as a partner with the Round Valley Indian Tribes. For both tribes, the Treaty is a tangible expression of their traditional and cultural ties to the rivers that have sustained them since the beginning of their existence.
