As I listened to this clip of Chief Steven A. Sund talking with the Lindell TV reporter, I thought about how General Flynn’s fate rested on everyone’s belief that Mike Pence was the arbiter of truth. When Pence said General Flynn lied, he was believed. Now, Pence pops up again as the person who sold out Chief Sund, who became Pelosi’s fall guy on January 6.

Pelosi claimed Sund never called her, and Mike Pence didn’t contradict her. He let Sund take the rap. It’s a lie by omission, and he sold out the Chief.

**Why did Pelosi think Sund lied to Pence? What did Pence say?**

As bad as we know Pence is, he’s worse than you think. It’s obvious Pelosi set everyone up on January 6, and she didn’t care who got hurt. Neither did Mike Pence.

Nancy Pelosi had asked former Capitol Hill Police Chief Steven Sund why he “lied to Vice President Pence,” and why he “gave him [Pence] false information.”

The reporter asked Mr. Sund, “Let’s talk about after the fact, following January 6, you were ultimately forced to resign. What happened there? How did that unfold?”

Sund replied:

> “So I’m up all night. I don’t think I slept for about 38 hours. We’re briefing members of Congress very next day about, you know, what our plan is for the Capitol. We got them back into session.

I go over and brief him, and he gets Pelosi on the phone, because my information tells me we can get them back in the session at 7 pm, 7:30 at the latest. He gets big Speaker Pelosi on the phone, sets it right on LED screens, like right between us.”

> “He briefed them and they decide, okay, great, she’s gonna brief the leadership. I’m walking out of that meeting, and I’m walking back through a tunnel, and I run into Mike Stinger. He’s walking over to brief the Senate. Asked me, will you come brief the center with me? I said, not a problem. He’s my boss.

> “Someone hands up a phone, and it’s Speaker Pelosi, and she is mad as can be. She is chewing me out about why I lied to Vice President Pence, why give them false information? They’re being told they can’t get into session for at least 24 hours.”

> “So there’s three times I talked to Speaker Pelosi. The next day, we’re briefing members of Congress. We’re trying to set a meeting with Speaker Pelosi’s office to do a brief there.”

> “At 4 o’clock in the afternoon, I’m briefing Senator Blount, I’m in a conference room, and I see my Chief of Staff step out. She steps back in, and she says, ‘You need to step outside. I gotta talk to you real quick.’

> “And she notifies me that Speaker Pelosi is getting ready to go on national TV and call for my resignation; I had just enough time to notify my wife.
>
> “I wasn’t gonna go and watch the news press conference; kind of expected what was coming, but my chief of staff and my general counsel said, ‘Now let’s go and watch it. Watch it.’

> “Twenty-three minutes into the press conference, someone asks about the security failures. And she blatantly comes out and says it was a failure of leadership at the top of Capitol Police, calls for my resignation. California Governor Gavin Newsom’s characterizations of his humble origins have recently raised eyebrows, given his family’s ties to the late billionaire heir Gordon Getty.

During a recent appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast, Newsom recounted how his mother, who divorced his father when he was young, hustled to make ends meet.

“My mom was 19, pregnant and divorced a few years later, with two kids,” he said on the podcast. “Came from no money and just hustled. You know, worked hard, grinding every single day. Two and a half jobs, no bulls-.”

“We had roommates all the time because she couldn’t afford the rent,” he continued. “It was also about paying the bills, man. It was just like hustling and so I was out there, kind of raising myself, turning on the TV, just getting obsessed. I was sitting there with the Wonder Bread, the macaroni and cheese.”

Throughout his career, Newsom has shared similar stories implying that he grew up in poverty or the lower middle class, seemingly to be more relatable to voters. Over the summer, for example, he claimed to have slept on the couch while his sister slept in a hallway because their mother had to rent out the spare bedroom.

However, skeptics have pointed out that Newsom’s late father, William Newsom, a former associate justice on the California Court of Appeals, served as a high-profile attorney for Getty’s billion-dollar fortune. William was so involved with the Getty family that he even helped deliver the ransom payment during the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III.

The elder Newsom previously explained that he was limited in helping Gavin’s mother financially due to his costly 1968 Senate run.

“I made a foolish mistake of putting my own money in it and losing,” he said, according to a 2003 San Francisco Chronicle article. “I had a huge deficit when it was over. I lost my law practice in the process. Things were unraveling. It took me quite a while to pull myself out financially. Tessa was working a number of jobs. Gavin had jobs after school.”

He later added, “I was around people of wealth, but I never had any money, nor did Gavin.”

Yet, after Gavin graduated from Santa Clara University, he launched a boutique winery, PlumpJack Group, with Getty’s financial backing.

“Anyone with more than an inch of curiosity would know that Governor Newsom was raised by his mother after her divorce from his father when he was 3 years old,” a Newsom spokesperson told The Post.

“He has talked about moving between two different worlds, but he was raised by a mother who worked three jobs at one point — secretary, waitress, and paralegal.”

Notably, Newsom attended kindergarten and first grade at École Notre Dame des Victoires, a Catholic school.

In August, Newsom trolled Vice President JD Vance by sharing a stylish photo purportedly of himself in high school wearing a fancy scarf, juxtaposed with a throwback picture of Vance in high school wearing a plain t-shirt, standing next to women posed in front of urinals.

DC leaf collection for the fall season begins after Halloween

Once you hand out candy to neighborhood trick-or-treaters, you may feel the need to buckle down and rake up all the dead leaves on your lawn. This year’s leaf collection in D.C. begins on Monday, Nov. 3, which happens to fall right after Halloween weekend.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced in a news conference that each residential neighborhood will receive at least two leaf collections during the season.

“There are many ways that DPW and residents work together to keep our city clean and safe, and leaf collection is one of them,” Bowser said, referring to D.C.’s Department of Public Works.

The leaf collection season will run through February. Mayor Bowser advised residents to rake their leaves into tree boxes or curbs in front of their homes. Leaves can also be placed in paper bags, but crews will not collect leaves in plastic bags.

“We encourage everyone to look up your collection zone, pay attention to when DPW announces that they’re 10 days out, and then work together with your neighbors to have leaves in tree boxes or curbside for collection,” she added.

In about a week, residents who receive trash and recycling services from DPW will receive a leaf collection brochure outlining when they can expect their first collection this season.

“Leaf collection is one of our toughest operations because we’re working with two unpredictable forces: Mother Nature and human nature,” said DPW Interim Director Anthony Crispino.

‘Moments of the Unknown’: Justin Aversano Shares Globetrotting Love Letter to Humanity

For his latest project, artist and photographer Justin Aversano—known for his acclaimed series “Twin Flames”—set out with a simple compass: love. Armed with just a camera, intuition, and an unspoken promise to document humanity across all seven continents, Aversano embarked on a remarkable journey.

The result is *“Moments of the Unknown,”* a living archive of global intimacy. This ambitious work is currently presented as an exhibition at Glitch Gallery in Marfa, Texas, coinciding with the Art Blocks Marfa Weekend this month. Additionally, a documentary screening is being held at the nearby Crowley Theater.

Decrypt had the opportunity to sit down with Aversano for an inside look at his journey, reflections, and creative process.

### From a Quiet Film to an Audio-Visual Experiment

Initially, Aversano planned the film to be a much quieter affair.
“It was mostly just gonna be no sound,” he recalls.

However, the project evolved as he traveled across continents into an audio-visual experiment. Hundreds of brief video portraits were stitched together, enhanced by soundscapes sourced from humanity’s most iconic artifact of love and hope: the “Voyager Golden Record.”

This phonograph record, sent into space in 1977, contains sounds and images representing Earth. Carl Sagan chaired the NASA committee that assembled the record.

“I wanted to reintegrate that historical movement in culture and space exploration—and use it as the soundtrack for a film about cultures and continents around the world and how they’re connected,” Aversano explained.

Each location in the film resonates with its own fragment from these sounds. Voices speak in 55 different languages, and delegates from the United Nations each say one simple word: “Hello.” It all culminates with the film’s final line: **“Hello from the children of planet Earth.”**

### Love as a Universal Language

At its core, *“Moments of the Unknown”* is about love—but not just romantic love. It encompasses family, friendship, and a sense of oneness.

“What I discovered while shooting is that love has so many forms,” Aversano shared.
“It became about unity, closeness, intimacy. The love of humanity and recognizing we are one human family.”

Rather than scouting subjects in advance, Aversano woke up each day uncertain of who he would meet. With no checklist for diversity or specific goals, he captured human encounters as they came—children, elders, strangers, twins, entire families.

Even the recurring heartbeat sounds in the soundtrack have personal significance. “That’s family,” he explained. “My dad, my sister, my brother. Moments where I felt presence and love.”

### Self-Portraits, Time Capsules, and a Nod to Twin Flames

Aversano quietly inserts himself into his projects, and *“Moments of the Unknown”* is no exception. His first appearance is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo at a barbershop in New Orleans.

“I just wanted to be a prop in her portrait,” he said.

Another self-portrait appears at Stonehenge on his birthday—an intentional callback to his earliest work, *“The Birthday Project.”* He calls it “an Easter egg,” a thread linking ten years of his artistry.

People reappear over time in his work. They age. Twins emerge, old and new. “I always run into twins,” he laughs, referencing his highly regarded *Twin Flames* series.

*Twin Flames* caught fire with collectors when photos of twin siblings were minted as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain in 2021. Those tokenized photos even made it to auction house Christie’s and attracted celebrity admirers like Snoop Dogg and Gary Vaynerchuk.

“I never say no,” Aversano admits. “It’s twin flames.”

### The Most Remote Chapter: Antarctica

One of the project’s most challenging chapters was shot in Antarctica.

“A two-day boat from Argentina. Seven days there, two days back,” he shared.

When asked to name a favorite country, he answered philosophically:
“You can’t choose a favorite when it’s all one.”

### A Living Diary, Daily NFT Auctions, and Ongoing Connection

Aversano shot the project two years ago and is releasing each portrait and video exactly on the same calendar day it was taken. The series began on April 8 and will conclude on April 7, 2026.

Each evening, he writes a diaristic entry about the person he met that day. He is now auctioning these daily portraits as unique, single-edition NFTs. Impressively, Aversano hasn’t missed a day.

Every day at 12 pm ET, he hosts an X Spaces conversation to discuss the day’s auction, creating an ongoing dialogue with his audience.

When asked what he hopes viewers take away from the film, Aversano focused not on legacy or sales, but on emotional connection.
