Hamas Reaching ‘Breaking Point’ as Gaza City Evacuation Expands, Security Source Says

“Once more than half a million Palestinians have evacuated, criticism of the Hamas leadership will intensify to the point where signs of its collapse may begin to appear,” a security source stated.

Displaced Palestinians, fleeing northern Gaza due to an Israeli military operation, are moving southward following orders from Israeli forces for residents of Gaza City to evacuate to the south, in the central Gaza Strip, on September 17, 2025.

Woman admits to pointing gun at ‘terrified’ teen during home invasion

A woman who once represented her state in football has admitted to pointing a gun at a terrified teenager and her sister during a meth-fueled home invasion last year.

Lela Spotswood, pictured in 2016 when she was appointed captain of the Tasmanian team to participate in the national female diversity championships, faces serious charges related to the incident.

The incident occurred on April 30, 2024, when Spotswood and her drug dealer co-accused drove to a private residence in Red Hills armed with firearms. According to Crown counsel Amit Sharma, the pair entered the home through an unlocked door at about 6:10 pm and encountered three occupants—the homeowner and his two teenage daughters.

Mr. Sharma explained that Spotswood pointed her weapon at the “terrified” 16-year-old girl, who was standing protectively in front of her 14-year-old sister. Meanwhile, her co-accused pointed a weapon at the male homeowner and demanded cash and drugs. The homeowner handed over $1,400 after explaining that he had earned the money working in the mining industry.

Evidence presented by the state included a DNA match and CCTV footage of the vehicle used during the incident. Among the items stolen were keys to the homeowner’s Toyota Hilux, clothing, and jewellery.

“It’s an aggravating factor in the offending that it occurred in the presence of children,” Mr. Sharma said during his submissions to the court. He added that the 16-year-old victim feared for her life when Spotswood pointed the firearm directly at her.

In response to the defence counsel’s argument that there were no physical injuries to the victims, Mr. Sharma highlighted the immense psychological harm caused by Spotswood’s actions. The teenager missed significant amounts of school following the incident, and her academic performance suffered as a result.

“The impact was profound for the father,” Mr. Sharma stated. “He had to give up his mining job in Western Australia.”

This distressing case sheds light on the far-reaching consequences of violent crime—not only physical but deeply psychological—especially when children are involved. The court will continue to consider evidence as proceedings move forward.

How Kishore Kumar’s Natural And Heartfelt Singing Inspired Shaan To Become A Singer

Ace singer Shaan is set to honour his ‘first guru,’ the legendary Kishore Kumar, with his first-ever tribute concert, **Forever Kishore Shaan Se**. Presented by Namrata Gupta Khan and Rabbani Mustafa Khan of NR Talent and Event Management — the family of Shaan’s guru, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan — the show is scheduled for September 19 at NMACC, Mumbai.

In an exclusive interaction with *The Free Press Journal*, Shaan opens up about the deep impact Kishore Kumar has had on his musical journey. He shares how Kishore da’s natural and heartfelt singing inspired him to become a singer, and how this concert is his way of giving back to his mentor and legend.

The show promises to be a magical evening filled with timeless melodies, memories, and soulful renditions of Kishore Kumar’s most iconic songs.

### Excerpts from the interview:

**Q. What inspired you to create a tribute show for Kishore Kumar now?**
A. Well, it was now or never! Of course, it’s been a fantastic coincidence that this show is also brought to us by NR Talent and Event Management. NR would be Namrata and Rabbani—Rabbani, of course, is Ustad ji’s son.

Actually, it all started with a conversation with Rabbani. He wanted to do a show, and he had a date at NMACC. He said, “Let’s do a Shaan show.” So I said, “I’d love to do a tribute to Kishore da.” He jumped at the idea, and within two days, posters were printed, the name was fixed, and within a week I was like, “Yaar, nikaal de poster, nahi ho payega!”

You know, this is something I hadn’t thought through. In two and a half hours, to put out a concert singing Kishore Kumar songs—I realised it’s not going to be possible. There are so many songs, so many emotions, so many facets to him. How am I going to put all that down in such a short while?

But once you’ve committed, you’re in. Since then, I’ve been working on it, and I think now I’ve reached a comfortable zone. I think I’m ready for this, and it’s going to be a fantastic show. We’re already sold out, so there’s no backing out!

**Q. What does Kishore Kumar mean to you personally and musically?**
A. Everything. I mean, you know, the fact that I wanted to be a singer is only after I heard him sing. His voice is a voice that resonates with me. His voice so effortlessly lives every emotion that he sings.

His voice is not dated. Aaj bhi agar koi gaana aap gaana chahte ho, aaj ki tareekh mein, I would think the ideal way to sing it would be how Kishore Kumar would have sung it. No extra frills, no extra fuss, no extra gaayaki. But feeling that emotion.

Not just energetic happy songs—even a sad song was sung with such grace and dignity. You’re not overdoing it. You’re not dwelling. The emotion automatically connects.

**Q. How did you prepare for Forever Kishore Shaan Se?**
A. The idea of that took many days. First, I thought maybe I’ll do a tribute with all the collaborations—the songs that he has sung with his co-singers, his composers, songs that he has sung for the top actors.

But then I realised that even that would not justify it. Then I thought, what if today Kishore da was doing a show for an audience of today? He would select songs based on emotion—runna bhi hai, hasna bhi hai. With at least 250 superhit songs, if an artist has to perform a few, they’d pick them to take the audience on a journey.

So we have almost 70 songs in a short span of two and a half hours. Some songs are short bits, some full songs. The journey is full of music, stories, and nostalgia. Everyone has a story connected to one of his songs—it should feel like that. So that’s how the journey is shaped.

**Q. Which Kishore da song do you find most emotionally challenging to sing?**
A. All his songs are emotionally challenging—because I get emotional when I sing them. But I enjoy that. The challenge is not the song.

Technical challenges are there if your voice is not in form. And of course, there’s a disclaimer—please do not compare me, a small artist, with the great Kishore Kumar. I will never, never, never measure up to that. But enjoy the journey along with me.

Though it’s not just a show—it’s a connection. So when you come, even if you’ve bought expensive tickets, you’ll be taken on a beautiful Kishore Kumar journey through his songs, with storytelling. Who better than his own son to tell us about his discography?

Google mein aapko mil jaayega, but this will be something else. Using his songs, it’s a journey into a world full of nostalgia, beautiful lyrics, poetry, and melody.

**Q. Are you planning to add your own twist to his classics or keep them as original as possible?**
A. No, no, no. They’ll be sung the way he sang them. Of course, there will be some finer changes. It’ll be a little different—but only slightly.

**Q. Can you share a glimpse of your next musical project after this concert?**
A. Yes! I’ve released a ghazal album which is doing very well. It’s called *Ghazal Ho Gayi*, and it’s composed and written by the great Nida Fazli sahab. It’s being released soon, and we’re making the best of it.

**Q. What message would you like to give to Kishore Kumar fans through this tribute?**
A. All I’d like to say is—Kishore Kumar hum rahenge na, hamari awaaz, hamare gaane rahenge. Kishore Kumar ki awaaz, unke gaane, unka charcha—they will always live on.

And as an inspiration, he will always be there. As long as someone understands what music is, what feelings are, what emotions are—he will always be relevant.

The beautiful thing about Kishore da’s singing is that it never gets dated. People will love it as a song of today and still feel his special touch. I think… you feel that. You feel that song.

Stay tuned for an unforgettable evening celebrating the timeless legacy of Kishore Kumar through the soulful voice of Shaan.

Royals score four in the eighth to snap Seattle’s 10-game winning streak

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Adam Frazier hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the eighth inning as the Kansas City Royals snapped the Seattle Mariners’ 10-game winning streak with a 7-5 victory on Wednesday night.

Eugenio Suarez ended an 0-for-32 slump with a breakout performance for Seattle, recording four hits, two RBIs, and two runs. Despite Suarez’s efforts, the Mariners fell a half-game behind the Houston Astros in the AL West following Houston’s win.

Lucas Erceg (8-4) earned the win for Kansas City, even after giving up the lead on J.P. Crawford’s homer in the eighth inning. Carlos Estevez allowed a ninth-inning run but secured his Major League Baseball-best 40th save of the season.

Seattle’s Matt Brash (1-3) struggled, allowing four runs and four hits in just two-thirds of an inning. Cole Ragans, making his first start for Kansas City since June 5 after recovering from a strained left rotator cuff, pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on one hit while striking out four and issuing two walks. Ragans started strong, throwing his first six pitches for strikes and striking out the side on 10 pitches in the first inning.

On the mound for Seattle, Bryce Miller allowed three runs on eight hits across five innings.

The game’s early scoring came from Royals’ Salvador Perez, who blasted a 435-foot, three-run home run to center field in the first inning. Suarez responded quickly for the Mariners with a 416-foot, two-run homer in the second, trimming the deficit to 3-2.

Seattle tied the game in the seventh when Suarez led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Garver.

The pivotal moment arrived in the eighth inning when Frazier’s home run put Kansas City back in front after the Mariners briefly took the lead earlier in the inning.

Statistically, the Royals capitalized well with runners in scoring position, going 5-for-13, while the Mariners were unable to reach base in similar situations, going 0-for-4.

Looking ahead, the two teams will conclude their three-game series on Thursday. Seattle is set to start right-hander Luis Castillo (9-8, 3.76 ERA), while Kansas City will counter with right-hander Stephen Kolek (5-5, 3.71 ERA).

India needs to tap into global green finance

India’s Climate Finance Landscape: Progress, Challenges, and the Road Ahead

India’s climate actions so far have primarily been financed from domestic resources. These include government budgetary support, a mix of market mechanisms, fiscal instruments, and policy interventions.

India’s initial Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement estimated that the country’s climate action would require $2.5 trillion (at 2014-15 prices) for meeting climate change actions between 2015 and 2030. The NDC aims to reduce the emissions intensity of India’s GDP by 45 per cent by 2030 from the 2005 level.

In November 2022, India submitted its Long-Term Low-Carbon Development Strategy to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Several estimates regarding India’s financial needs for this strategy vary due to differences in assumptions, coverage, and modelling approaches. However, these estimates suggest that the requirement will exceed $10 trillion by 2050.

Given India’s substantial financial needs for climate action, tapping into global sustainable/green finance and foreign private capital is expected to play a crucial role in achieving its NDC goals. Encouragingly, the size of global sustainable/green debt finance has been growing rapidly in response to climate change challenges.

According to data from the Institute of International Finance (IIF), cumulative global sustainable/green debt issuances since March 2013 reached $8.86 trillion in December 2024, up from $1.5 trillion in June 2019. Of this amount:

– Mature economies accounted for $6.05 trillion (68.25%)
– Emerging economies $1.53 trillion (17.25%)
– Offshore centres $0.30 trillion (3.38%)
– Supranationals $0.98 trillion (11.12%)

### Green Instruments in Sustainable Finance

Debt instruments used for raising sustainable/green finance range widely, including green bonds/loans, green asset-backed securities (ABS), sustainability bonds, social bonds, green municipal bonds, and sustainability-linked bonds/loans.

Among these instruments:
– Green bonds account for the largest share at 37.10%
– Sustainability-linked loans follow with 18.95%
– Sustainability bonds make up 13.14%
– Green loans comprise 10.44%

India’s share in global sustainable/green debt issuances till December 2024 was $91.2 billion, which represents just 1.03% of the global total. However, when viewed as a share of emerging economies’ sustainable/green debt issuances, India’s portion looks more respectable at 5.97%.

By contrast, China’s share in sustainable/green debt issuances was much higher, at $690.7 billion — accounting for 7.80% globally and 45.21% within emerging economies. Clearly, India has considerable ground to cover in increasing its presence in this space.

### Steps Taken and Future Prospects

Several climate-related measures were announced in the Union Budget 2022-23, including the introduction of sovereign green bonds and thematic funds for blended finance. India joined the sovereign green bonds club on January 25, 2023, by raising ₹80 billion. Since then, a few more sovereign green bond issuances have taken place.

While the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued disclosure requirements for the issuance and listing of green debt securities in 2017, Indian corporate entities entered the green bond market earlier — with Yes Bank issuing the first green bond worth $260 million in 2015. Since then, various public and private sector corporate entities have actively raised green finance.

India has been gaining traction in accessing sustainable/green financing both locally and globally. Yet, the financing gap to meet its NDCs under the UNFCCC remains huge. To bridge this gap, India needs to tap into the rapidly growing global pool of sustainable/green capital from pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurance funds, private equity, venture capital, infrastructure funds, and more.

### Policy Enablers to Attract Global Green Finance

Attracting global private finance into India’s sustainable/green projects requires a focus on both micro and macro-level policy enablers.

At the micro level, increasing transparency by aligning disclosure and reporting standards to global benchmarks will reduce information asymmetry faced by investors and lenders. Establishing an integrated domestic measurement, reporting, and verification system would enhance the availability and accessibility of sustainable/green finance data.

At the macro level, developing a robust green taxonomy combined with fiscal incentives and a credible domestic capital market is crucial to accelerate the inflow of global private green finance into India.

In this context, the mandatory implementation of Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) for the top 1,000 listed companies and the announcement to develop a taxonomy for climate finance in the Union Budget 2024-25 are positive steps. However, much more needs to be done to attract global sustainable/green finance.

For example:
– Developing a dedicated channel for listing green bonds on Indian stock exchanges could help increase visibility.
– Launching or expanding ESG performance-based equity/bond indices on Indian exchanges would incentivize sustainable investment.
– Collaborating with offshore stock exchanges and index providers to include Indian green bonds in global indices could boost international investor interest.

### Conclusion

India stands at a critical juncture in its climate finance journey. While domestic resources have driven much of its climate actions to date, bridging the significant financing gap demands greater engagement with global sustainable finance markets.

Strategic policy reforms, enhanced transparency, and international collaboration will be key to unlocking private capital flows that can support India’s ambitious climate commitments and long-term low-carbon development goals.
