Hacking Your ‘Internal Clock’ Could Be the Secret to Treating Alzheimer’s, Breakthrough Study Suggests

**Could Disrupting Your Internal Clock Be the Key to Treating Alzheimer’s?**

A surprising new study published in the journal *Nature Aging* suggests that using drugs to target the circadian protein REV-ERBα could potentially slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

In the early stages of Alzheimer’s, proteins like amyloid and tau build up in parts of the medial temporal lobe — a brain region essential for memory formation. This buildup causes previously healthy neurons to die off, leading to brain shrinkage.

According to co-author Erik Museik, MD, PhD, more than half of the 82 genes associated with Alzheimer’s risk are controlled by the circadian rhythm. Museik’s team believes that this correlation could offer valuable insights into developing therapeutic treatments that might slow—or even stop—the progression of the disease.

### Exploring the Role of REV-ERBα

In the study, researchers experimented on two groups of mice. In the first group, they removed the circadian protein entirely. In the second group, they deleted the protein from astrocytes—the neuron-support cells that make up our brains and spinal cords.

Two important outcomes emerged from this approach:

1. **Blocking REV-ERBα increased levels of NAD+**, a coenzyme linked to healthy brain aging that previous research suggests could improve cognitive function.

2. **Inhibiting REV-ERBα and increasing NAD+ protected mice from tau buildup**, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.

These findings provide promising evidence that a drug suppressing REV-ERBα might offer hope in treating Alzheimer’s.

### Alzheimer’s and the Circadian Rhythm: A Cyclical Relationship

Another study led by Museik, published in *Nature Neuroscience* in October, further supports the theory that Alzheimer’s could be linked to disruptions in our circadian rhythm.

The paper highlights that Alzheimer’s symptoms often follow a cyclical pattern. Many people living with Alzheimer’s experience altered sleep cycles, such as napping throughout the day and feeling more alert at night.

To better understand this phenomenon, the research team studied gene expression in mice with amyloid protein accumulation, simulating “early stage” Alzheimer’s. They discovered that this buildup disrupted the rhythm of hundreds of proteins in the brain more severely than typical aging alone.

While amyloid buildup didn’t completely “switch off” genes, it caused them to fire sporadically and less effectively—potentially harming brain health. For instance, some affected genes regulate microglia, the brain’s “clean-up crew” cells responsible for breaking down waste, including excess amyloid. When these genes become less effective, amyloid accumulates further, inhibiting the genes even more—a domino effect driving neurodegeneration.

### New Rhythms and Neuroinflammation

The *Nature Neuroscience* study also found that amyloid buildup generated new rhythms in genes that normally do not cycle. These changes are significant and may worsen cognitive decline.

Notably, these new rhythms impact genes responsible for inflammation, potentially leading to excess inflammation in nervous tissue—known as neuroinflammation. This condition can cause symptoms such as brain fog and memory loss.

### Looking Ahead

While these studies offer breakthrough insights into the role of the circadian rhythm in Alzheimer’s progression, much remains to be learned. Researchers are hopeful that targeting the internal clock could become a key strategy in developing effective treatments for this devastating disease.

Stay tuned as science continues to unravel the complex relationship between our internal clocks and brain health.

EXCLUSIVE: After Jolly LLB 3, Star Studio18-PVR Inox now fight over VPF for Huma Qureshi-starrer Single Salma

Bollywood Hungama has been at the forefront of reporting the ongoing tussle between the national cinema chains—namely PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis—and film producers over the payment of the VPF (Virtual Print Fee).

Last month, the industry was jolted when PVR and Inox suspended advance bookings for the much-awaited film *Jolly LLB 3*, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. This decision came after its producers, Star Studio18, refused to pay the VPF. The advance bookings were halted twice, the last time just 12 hours before the commencement of the first show.

According to reports, Star Studio18 eventually paid the VPF but made it clear that the payment was made under protest. The studio also stated that discussions on the issue would continue.

More than a month later, the VPF dispute has resurfaced, this time involving the Huma Qureshi-starrer *Single Salma*.

**Exclusive:** After *Jolly LLB 3*, Star Studio18 and PVR Inox are now clashing over the VPF for *Single Salma*.

A trade source informed Bollywood Hungama, “*Single Salma* is also produced by Star Studio18, and they once again requested a VPF waiver from PVR Inox as well as Cinepolis. However, this request was not granted, and discussions are still ongoing. If a solution is not found, *Single Salma* will likely be released only in non-national theatres across the country.”

Industry insiders reveal that *Single Salma* is expected to release on around 200 screens. The film features Huma Qureshi in the lead role, who coincidentally was also part of *Jolly LLB 3*. The cast also includes Shreyas Talpade and Sunny Singh.

The producers argue that they are justified in requesting the VPF waiver since *Jolly LLB 3* is a 2025 release. However, PVR Inox maintains its stance, stating that the agreement specifies that studios will stop paying VPF only if other production houses do the same.

In a related development, on September 30, 2025, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) ordered an investigation against PVR INOX Limited over allegations of abusing its dominant market position by continuing to levy VPF on film producers.

BREAKING: Ranbir Kapoor’s Love And War bows out of Eid 2026 clash with Yash’s Toxic; to release post June 2026

Earlier this morning, Yash and the producers of *Toxic* reconfirmed that the fairy tale for adults will hit the big screen as scheduled in March 2026, coinciding with the Eid 2026 period.

However, in a surprising turn of events, the industry is buzzing with reports about the delay of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, *Love and War*. Reliable sources confirm that *Love and War* will miss its Eid 2026 deadline, thereby avoiding a clash with Yash’s epic, *Toxic*.

**BREAKING:** Ranbir Kapoor’s *Love and War* bows out of the Eid 2026 clash with Yash’s *Toxic*; set to release post-June 2026.

“It’s a blessing in disguise, as it made no sense for two Pan-Indian films to clash on the same date. *Love and War* is running much behind its shooting schedule and will now release in the second half of 2026. Around 75 days of shoot still remain, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has requested Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal to allot bulk dates till summer 2026 to wrap up the film,” a reliable source told Bollywood Hungama.

The film is reported to be approximately 40 days behind schedule. As a result, the earliest possible release date for *Love and War* is now June 2026. Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali will soon make an official announcement regarding the delay.

This delay also helps avert any off-screen clash between Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, ahead of their anticipated on-screen rivalry in *Ramayana*. Contrary to earlier speculations, it is Ranbir Kapoor who will not be arriving on Eid 2026, while Yash remains on track to bring his action romance *Toxic* to cinemas in March 2026.

*Toxic* is progressing as planned, with the makers expressing strong confidence in their product. The film stands out as one of the rare Indian movies to be shot simultaneously in Kannada and English.

More details on the release of *Love and War* are being kept under wraps for now.

Stranger Things 5 trailer: Cast teases “next-level action’ and a “chaotic start” in the final season

The lights are flickering once again in Hawkins. Shadows crawl, memories linger, and the air crackles with the kind of electricity only Netflix’s most beloved world can summon. Netflix invites us back to the Upside Down as the trailer for **Stranger Things Season 5** drops.

### Stranger Things 5 Trailer: Cast Teases “Next-Level Action” and a “Chaotic Start” in the Final Season

Counting down to the final chapter, the cast, creators, and executive producers of *Stranger Things* set the stage for what’s to come and where we find our characters at the start of the season, as told to Tudum.

Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) says,
> “Eleven is in training mode. She’s in a warrior state, which is the first time you see Eleven like that at the beginning of a season. As for her mindset, all she is thinking about is protecting her friends. Her friends are her chosen family, so she will do whatever it takes to protect them and we’re going to see that.”

Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) adds,
> “Dustin is kind of in a bit of a funk. I think everybody probably is considering the state that Hawkins is in, and it’s getting a little bit harder for the gang to keep all the pieces together. We’re all dealing with the day-to-day issues of what it is to try to keep everybody safe and figure out where Vecna is, while having a lot of unpacked baggage from the events in the previous season.”

Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) shares,
> “It’s always been in the beginning of a season that everything is all good, but this is the first season we come into it and the stakes are the same as where we left off. We haven’t defeated Vecna and the problem is still there. We’re still trying to figure it out and we may not be able to figure it out, so you feel that burden on Lucas as well as everyone else on the show. Everyone is on edge and we’re all just trying to keep hope alive.”

Noah Schnapp (Will) asserts,
> “Will is back in Hawkins this season. He was out of Hawkins for the last season, so now we’re seeing the effects of him being back in that realm. We kind of hit the ground running right away this season, which is really exciting and not how we’ve started any other season. Everyone is all in one place and we all have the same objective.”

Sadie Sink (Max) explains,
> “We [ended] Season 4 in a tough place for Max. Her final moments were her in a hospital bed. Eleven was searching for her in the void and couldn’t find her, so Max is definitely not the way she once was. There’s still a small glimmer of hope, though, and her friends are hanging on to that.”

Finn Wolfhard (Mike) says,
> “Mike is back in leadership mode, and he’s kind of taken it more upon himself to help plan out these missions, and he and the whole gang are devoted to finding Vecna and ending this.”

Ross Duffer (Co-Creator, Executive Producer, Writer, Director) shares,
> “I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4. We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.”

Matt Duffer (Co-Creator, Executive Producer, Writer, Director) adds,
> “They’re not experiencing normal life. Nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore. Their movement is restricted, and there are Big Brother cameras everywhere. So not only are they active, their everyday, normal lives are anything but.”

Shawn Levy (Executive Producer & Director) concludes,
> “The action is next level, the visual effects are next level, but I’m also happy to say that the emotional center remains the same. And part of the magic of this show is that even as we evolve, even as the storytelling becomes more epic, it’s always anchored in these characters that we love.”

Liam Lawson under fire after latest claim by Mexico’s motorsport authority

**Visa Cash App RB Driver Liam Lawson Has Close Call with Marshals at 2025 Mexico City GP**

Liam Lawson, the Visa Cash App Red Bull driver, experienced a frightening near-miss with track marshals shortly after exiting the pit lane during the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

The race started with fierce action as Lawson had a strong launch off the line and was battling Carlos Sainz into Turn 1. However, the Spaniard failed to leave sufficient space and collided with Lawson’s car, causing significant damage to the Kiwi driver’s vehicle. This forced Lawson to pit for repairs early in the race.

The collision between Sainz and Lawson, combined with other incidents in Turn 1, left considerable debris scattered across the Turn 1, 2, and 3 section of the circuit. Consequently, the FIA stewards deployed double-waved yellow flags in this area to ensure the marshals could safely clear the track.

Despite these safety measures, a tense situation unfolded when Lawson rejoined the track at the end of Lap 2. As he approached Turn 1, he encountered several marshals still on track collecting debris. The Kiwi driver narrowly avoided a serious incident, but the close call led to an angry radio message from Lawson expressing his frustration about marshals being on the racing line.

Following the incident, Mexico’s motorsport federation OMDAI Sport Mexico issued a public statement sharply criticizing Lawson. The release stated:
“The images clearly show that driver Liam Lawson maintains the steering wheel angle of his car when taking Turn 1, without changing his trajectory, even though the track marshals were crossing the track to return to their post. This action occurs while personnel were still working in the area, which shows that the driver did not interrupt his line despite the obvious presence of marshals on the track.”

The FIA also commented publicly after the race, noting that the instructions to dispatch marshals had been rescinded once Lawson pitted. They confirmed that an investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

**Liam Lawson Speaks Out About the Incident**

After the race, Lawson spoke to the media about the dangerous situation, calling it unacceptable. During the race, he had already voiced his concerns over team radio, pointing out the severe risk of injury.

“I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I got to Turn 1 and there were two dudes just running across the track. And I nearly hit one of them. Honestly, it was so dangerous. Obviously, there’s been a miscommunication somewhere, but I’ve never experienced that before, I’ve only seen that in the past. It’s pretty unacceptable,” said Lawson.

Unfortunately, the damage sustained in the Lap 1 collision ultimately forced Lawson to retire from the race.

This incident has raised serious questions about track safety protocols and communication between race control and marshals during high-intensity moments on the circuit. The ongoing FIA investigation will likely provide further clarity on how such a dangerous situation unfolded and how it can be prevented in future events.
