Somehow the 3 million deportations under Obama are conveniently forgotten. Oh, and which party did FDR belong to again?

Man pleads guilty to Japan ex-prime minister’s murder: “Everything is true”

The gunman accused of killing Japan’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe pleaded guilty Tuesday, three years after the assassination in broad daylight shocked the world. The slaying forced a reckoning in a country with little experience of gun violence and ignited scrutiny of alleged ties between prominent conservative lawmakers and a secretive sect, the Unification Church.

“Everything is true,” Tetsuya Yamagami said at a court in the western city of Nara, admitting to the murder of the country’s longest-serving leader in July 2022. “There is no doubt that I have done all this,” Yamagami added, according to the Japan Times.

The 45-year-old was led handcuffed into the room with a rope around his waist. When the judge asked him to state his name, Yamagami, who was wearing a black T-shirt and had his long hair tied back, replied in a barely audible voice. His lawyer said they would contest certain charges, including violations of arms control laws for allegedly using a handmade weapon.

More than 700 people lined up to be one of the 32 allowed in a lottery to sit in the courtroom’s public gallery for the trial, the Japan Times reported. Yamagami pleaded guilty on the same day that two of Abe’s former allies, incumbent Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and visiting U.S. President Donald Trump, met in Tokyo.

Yamagami’s trial had been a long time coming after the discovery of a suspicious item—later found to be harmless—caused its last-minute cancellation and the evacuation of the Nara court building in 2023.

One issue central to the case was whether extenuating circumstances applied due to “religious abuse” in Yamagami’s childhood stemming from his mother’s extreme devotion to the Unification Church, according to Japanese media reports. In a recent interview with TBS News, cited by the Japan Times, she said her faith grew even stronger after her son assassinated Abe.

Prosecutors told the court that Yamagami started building up resentment toward the church, which he thinks derailed his life. “He began to think he needed a gun” to attack church executives, but having failed to procure one, “he decided that he had to make one himself,” a prosecutor said.

Yamagami “thought he could draw public attention to the church if he killed someone as influential as Abe,” the prosecutor added.

Some Japanese expressed sympathy for Yamagami, especially those who also suffered as children of followers of the Unification Church, which is known for pressuring adherents into making large donations and is considered a cult in Japan. The former prime minister had spoken at events organized by some of the church groups and received some criticism for doing so.

“Life was ruined by the church.” Yamagami reportedly resented Abe for his perceived ties to the Church, which was established in South Korea in 1954 and whose members are nicknamed “Moonies” after its founder Sun Myung Moon. The Church has been accused of fomenting child neglect among its members and financially exploiting them—claims it denies.

Yamagami’s lawyers on Tuesday said his life collapsed because of the sect, with his mother convinced that “throwing all her money and assets into the Church will salvage her family” after the suicide of her husband and the illness of one of her sons. In the end, she donated around 100 million yen ($1 million at the time) to the sect, the lawyer said.

Yamagami gave up on advancing to higher education and joined the military instead, while his mother declared bankruptcy, according to the lawyer. He also attempted suicide in 2005.

“He began to think his whole life was ruined by the church,” the lawyer said.

Investigations after Abe’s murder led to cascading revelations about close ties between the Church and many conservative lawmakers in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, prompting four ministers to resign. Earlier this year, the Tokyo District Court issued a dissolution order for the Church’s Japanese arm, saying it caused “unprecedented damage” to society.

The assassination was also a wake-up call for a nation with some of the world’s strictest gun controls. Gun violence is so rare in Japan that security officials at the scene failed to immediately identify the sound made by the first shot and came to Abe’s rescue too late, a police report after the attack said.

The debacle prompted lawmakers to pass a bill in 2024 further strengthening arms controls to prevent people from making homemade guns. Under the new rules, uploading tutorial videos on making firearms and propagating information about gun sales on social media can result in a fine or imprisonment of up to one year.

Grow a Garden Blackout Mutation guide

**Blackout Mutation in Grow a Garden: Everything You Need to Know**

The Blackout Mutation was introduced in *Grow a Garden* during the second part of the Ghoul Garden Event. This unique mutation creates dark particles around the affected crop and drastically increases its selling value, making it highly desirable for players aiming to maximize their earnings.

The event associated with Blackout is spine-chilling, as it transforms the map into black and grey tones to mark the arrival of the Grim Reaper. In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the Blackout Mutation, including how to obtain it and its selling value multiplier.

### How to Get Blackout Mutation in Grow a Garden

The Blackout Mutation is applied to crops during the Grim Reaper event, an admin-triggered occurrence within the game. When this event takes place, the environment changes to an ominous black-and-grey theme, and a giant Grim Reaper appears on the map.

During the event, the Reaper uses its scythe to create dark spikes across the island. At the same time, random crops in your garden can be mutated to Blackout.

Since the Grim Reaper event is controlled by the developers, players must wait for the next Admin Abuse event to occur. These special events typically happen on both private and public servers about one hour before an update rollout.

### Which Crops Can Get Blackout Mutation?

The Blackout Mutation can be obtained by any plant, flower, or vegetable in your garden. Additionally, the mutation can spread to other crops through certain Pets — specifically the Spinosaurus, T-Rex, and Fennec Fox.

Deploying these Pets in your garden will help you spread the Blackout Mutation to more of your harvests, amplifying the benefits of this powerful crop enhancement.

For more information on crop enhancements, be sure to check out our updated [Grow a Garden Mutations Tier List].

### Blackout Mutation Effects and Benefits

Blackout is an excellent mutation, especially for new players. It multiplies a crop’s sale value by an impressive **95x**, which is higher than many of the newer mutations such as Shadowbound, Umbral, Vamp, Spooky, and Moonbled.

If you’re a beginner looking to earn Sheckles quickly and boost your purchasing power, striving to get Blackout on the majority of your crops is a great strategy.

Visually, a Blackout crop features dark particle effects and a shadow-black color that gives it a spooky, eerie appearance. These visual effects perfectly complement the grim atmosphere of the associated Grim Reaper event.

Currently, Blackout is not a requirement for any combo mutation, but this may change in future updates when developers introduce crop enhancements requiring the fusion of multiple mutations.

### Quick FAQs

**Which event gives the Blackout Mutation?**
The Blackout Mutation is gifted during the admin-triggered Grim Reaper event.

**What is the multiplier of the Blackout Mutation?**
It provides a 95x increase to a crop’s sale value.

**When was the Grim Reaper event introduced?**
Both the Grim Reaper event and the Blackout Mutation were added in the second part of the Ghoul Garden update.

Warriors prove they can win at less than full strength with well-rounded effort vs. Grizzlies

Golden State secured its first victory without Al Horford, showcasing a strong team effort.

Moses Moody, Jimmy Butler, and Brandin Podziemski each contributed significantly, scoring over 20 points apiece.

Their combined performances were key to the team’s success and demonstrated the Warriors’ depth even in Horford’s absence.

Explore the Depths in Anchor

Fearem, a veteran indie studio known for its tech-driven projects, has announced Anchor, an underwater survival crafting game coming soon to PC. Set in a vast, persistent open world, the game supports more than 150 players per server, allowing players to explore, build, and battle together beneath the waves.

The story begins after a nuclear catastrophe forces humanity to seek refuge deep within Earth’s oceans. You awaken as a new, genetically engineered race designed to endure life underwater in The Anchor, a region specifically created to sustain aquatic civilization.

Players must build bases, secure shelter, and defend themselves from both the hostile environment and rival survivors. In Anchor, survival doesn’t stop when you log off. Each server exists continuously, evolving even in your absence. While you are offline, your base remains exposed to threats from nature and other players, making strong defenses and trusted alliances crucial.

Fearem’s custom networking technology powers these persistent worlds—a product of the studio’s decade of experience working on large-scale multiplayer systems.

The game’s 16 square kilometer map features a wide range of underwater biomes, from vibrant coral forests to frigid arctic depths. Players can craft and collect materials to expand their bases, forge communities, or engage in underwater warfare.

Dangers abound in this unforgiving ocean world, including ancient clone remnants from a lost civilization, raiding players, and apex predators like sharks drawn by the scent of blood.

Anchor promises a mix of tension, cooperation, and survival in an ever-changing ocean world, where the deep sea becomes both sanctuary and battleground.

Britain’s Immigration Debate Is Getting Much Darker

A policy of mass deporting legal immigrants was once solely the preserve of fringe racist groups such as the National Front in Britain.

Now, this stance is not only held by Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, which currently leads the country’s polls, but also by the Conservatives, who have been the governing party for 14 of the past 15 years.

The mainstreaming of such xenophobic radicalism does nothing to enhance Britain’s reputation as a bastion of reliability, tolerance, and decency.

Review: CDT’s ‘White Christmas’ encore production is worth celebrating

The return of “White Christmas” marks the end of an era for Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.

Michael Brindisi, CDT’s longtime president and artistic director, died unexpectedly in February, just two days before the company opened its production of “Grease.” He oversaw the successful debut of “White Christmas” last year and had already made the decision to bring it back for an encore.

The current program lists Brindisi as “original artistic director” of the show and includes his original director’s note, written in October 2024:

“There are a lot of veteran performers and designers who have worked on our play. On more than a few occasions, I’ve heard the exclamation from many, including yours truly, ‘I’m getting too old for this.’ We should all keep doing what we love for as long as we can, but when we can’t, that’s OK too. Just count your blessings and you’ll be all right!”

In many ways, “White Christmas” showcases CDT’s strength as a song-and-dance powerhouse. For two and a half hours, the cast and crew create magic on stage, offering a welcome dose of escapism into a much less complicated time.

The musical is based on the 1954 film of the same name, which also happened to be the highest-grossing film of that year. It was constructed around Irving Berlin’s song “White Christmas,” originally written for 1942’s “Holiday Inn.”

The track was such a massive hit that Bing Crosby’s version sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide. Berlin wrote a new batch of numbers to accompany it for the new movie. The stage version debuted in 2004 and added Berlin’s name to the official title.

As expected under such circumstances, the plot is paper-thin. It follows World War II vets Bob Wallace (Michael Gruber) and Phil Davis (Tony Vierling), who’ve become popular entertainers. They meet sisters and fellow performers Betty (Ann Michels) and Judy Haynes (Andrea Mislan) and propose a collaboration, both on stage and off.

Really, the story exists merely to connect the songs, which — if you’re allergic to holiday music like me — thankfully aren’t all Christmas numbers. The dynamic choreography by Tamara Kangas Erickson, who has since taken over as CDT’s leader, injects true glee into the proceedings.

Don’t be late returning from intermission, lest you miss the show’s highlight: the eye-popping, toe-tapping “I Love a Piano.”

The show remains every bit as exciting and fun as it was last year. Beyond a few new faces in the ensemble, the biggest change is Kersten Rodau replacing Brindisi’s wife, Michelle Barber.

Barber is currently starring in a production of “Come From Away” at Asolo Repertory Theatre in Florida, where their daughter Cat is associate artistic director. Barber is usually one of the best things about CDT productions, but Rodau does a fine job in the broadly comic role of Martha Watson, who runs a struggling Vermont hotel owned by Wallace and Davis’ wartime boss General Henry Waverly (Joenathan Thomas, who has both the presence and the voice of an actual general).

Two young performers, Jenalia Valerio and Malle Cenizal, return to swap nights playing Waverly’s granddaughter Susan, a character that brings a sweet sense of innocence with a dash of determination to the show.

Sweet is a great way to describe “White Christmas” as a whole. Audiences love it, and like last year, many of the performances leading up to Christmas are already sold out. Plenty of seats remain for the January shows, and given what a delight it is, “White Christmas” is worth seeing even after the candy canes and ornaments are packed away.

Brindisi’s final CDT production is a real gift.

Inside Frogmore Cottage and its five luxury bedrooms where Prince Andrew has ‘requested to relocate’

While Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, packed up their belongings and left a life at Frogmore Cottage behind for the rolling hills of Montecito, California, in 2020, the residence is reportedly being sought after by Prince Andrew following news he may have to give up his current home at Royal Lodge.

According to The Sun, the King’s brother, 65, is said to have requested to relocate to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate as talks with Buckingham Palace officials continue following his controversial friendship with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

HELLO! understands that Frogmore Cottage and Adelaide Cottage — where his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, has reportedly requested to move — were options offered to the royals several months ago.

### A Home for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Originally home to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they were newlyweds, the famous couple first moved into Frogmore Cottage in 2019. The late Queen Elizabeth II gifted the property to them following their marriage in 2018.

Despite Frogmore Cottage’s royal connection dating back to the 19th century, Harry and Meghan set about making the historic Grade-II listed building feel like home. Situated in Windsor Great Park, the house originally had 10 bedrooms. However, following the £2.4 million renovations carried out by the Duke and Duchess, the number of bedrooms was halved to five.

During their time at Frogmore, the couple welcomed their children, Archie Harrison, now 6, and Lilibet Diana, 4, before moving to America to start their new life.

### Inside Frogmore Cottage

The interior of the famous cottage was showcased on the couple’s Netflix series, with particular attention given to the country-style kitchen featuring massive marble countertops and elegant decor. The cottage reportedly includes five bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a nursery.

Meghan brought a vibrant touch to the interiors by adding pops of colour through bold cushions and throws adorned with intricate patterns and designs.

### Beautiful Gardens and Scenic Surroundings

Perhaps just as stunning as the interior are the leafy green, sprawling exteriors of Frogmore Cottage. The gardens, frequently shown in the Netflix series and various photographs, are meticulously maintained, full of flowers and trees that ensure the royals’ privacy.

The outdoor space also features a charming wooden arbour seat. A visitor during one of Frogmore Estate’s rare open days told HELLO! that there is a special tribute in the garden to one of the family’s pets — a dog statue.

The cottage enjoys breathtaking views, situated in front of a large lake and the Grade-II listed Frogmore House, where Harry and Meghan hosted their wedding reception in May 2018.

### Harry’s Reflections on Frogmore Cottage

In his memoir, *Spare*, Harry reflected on their time at the property. He wrote:

> “Meg and I moved our office into Buckingham Palace. We also moved into a new home. Frogmore was ready. We loved that place. From the first minute, it felt as if we were destined to live there.”

He continued:

> “We couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning, go for a long walk in the gardens, check in with the swans — especially grumpy Steve. We met the Queen’s gardeners, got to know their names and the names of all the flowers. They were thrilled at how much we appreciated, and praised, their artistry.”

### The History Behind Frogmore Cottage

With a grand history, Frogmore Cottage was first built in 1860. It is located on the same estate as the Frogmore Mausoleums and the Royal Burial Ground — the final resting places of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, and Edward VIII.

Before becoming known as the residence of Harry and Meghan, the cottage served as a retreat for Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of King George III.

Frogmore Cottage remains a significant royal home, rich with history and personal stories, and now, potentially, a new chapter awaits as it may soon accommodate Prince Andrew.
