West Palm Beach officer befriends homeless woman, offers food and new shelter

**South Florida Officer Goes Above and Beyond to Help Homeless Woman in West Palm Beach**

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) — A South Florida police officer lent a helping hand to a woman who was in desperate need of support. West Palm Beach Police Officer Gesner Michel went above and beyond to assist a homeless woman facing difficult times.

While on duty, Officer Michel, who finds his work fulfilling, met the woman and immediately befriended her. “You wake up every morning and you know you’re meeting new people and you get a chance to give people hope,” he said. “I made contact with that person—let me rephrase—not person, my new friend.”

The woman shared that she was looking for a job but was struggling to make progress. That’s when Officer Michel stepped in to give her that extra boost of encouragement. “Hope is giving someone that extra boost, that extra chance, you know, just to say, ‘Hey, it’s not that I hope things get better, I know things will get better,’” he explained.

Showing compassion, Officer Michel took her out for a warm meal. “We’re going to get you some food, OK? It’s on me today. I feel good today. You’re making me happy, so I’m going to make you even more happy,” he told her.

During their time together, Michel helped the woman obtain a new identification card and even found her a place to sleep for the night. “At least we know we got a bed, right? Did I not say we weren’t going to get something?” the officer joked with her.

The woman was deeply grateful for his kindness and assistance. “She was just so grateful. She was surprised, you know, that I took the time to help her and I told her it was not a problem, it’s normal for me,” said Michel.

Looking ahead, Officer Michel is now focused on helping his new friend secure a job. “She says she’s a really good waitress, so if anyone in West Palm Beach would like to hire somebody, she’ll be ready,” he said.

Officer Michel hopes to continue making a positive impact in his community. “‘Cause I live by paying it forward,” he shared.

Michel has proudly served with the West Palm Beach Police Department for seven years.

Will Smith calls it “the future of racing,” while Tom Brady describes it as “a very tactical, very strategic, a very fine type of racing.”

Marc Anthony adds, “It’s a league. It’s me, LeBron James, Tom Brady, Will Smith, Rafa Nadal, Steve Aoki. We formed this league, and it’s E1 racing, and it’s electric boats. They’re like Formula One, but it’s electric—E1 boats on the water.”

Marc Anthony’s team represents Miami, and he’s bringing the finals to the 305 for the very first time. He shares, “I insisted on the championship being in Miami, and it’s this weekend. It’s gonna be a hoot. Everybody is in the same boat. I designed the colors of the boat—the Miami colors. We’ve been racing for the past two years internationally.”

Of course, like all great sports, some friendly smack-talking is on the menu.

Marc Anthony: “Will Smith’s talking a lot of crap.”

Will Smith: “I think that went really well. You know we can do two-on-two teams. Me and you against Tom and Marc. We’ll start there, you know. What do you think?”

Rafa Nadal chimes in, “They are good on the radio.”

Will Smith: “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

Tickets to watch the race on Biscayne Bay include all the fun you’d expect.

David Grutman promises, “Includes open bar, of course. It’s Miami—open bar—and all the food you can eat. The event will take place Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8.”

Steve Aoki sums it up: “The grand finale in Miami. We’ll see you there.”

David Grutman adds, “E1.”

And Marc Anthony concludes, “Everybody’s bringing it this weekend. Everybody’s flying in and ah, it’s gonna be a very, very interesting weekend.”

Limp Bizkit band members say bass player Sam Rivers has died

Sam Rivers, the bass player in the nu metal band Limp Bizkit, died on Saturday, according to social media posts by his bandmates. The band did not disclose where Rivers died or the circumstances but praised him as “pure magic” and “the soul in the sound.”

“From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced,” they wrote in a group Instagram post. “His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous.”

Fred Durst, the band’s frontman, posted a video recalling how they met at a club in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, before going on to music stardom and performances around the globe.

“He really did have an impact on the world, and his music and his gift is the one that’s going to keep on giving,” Durst said. “I just love him so much.”

Rivers had spoken publicly about heavy drinking that had caused liver disease. He left the band in 2015 and received a liver transplant before reuniting with Limp Bizkit three years later.

Limp Bizkit has scheduled a tour of Central and South America beginning in Mexico City in late November.

With roots in Jacksonville, Florida, Limp Bizkit emerged in the late 1990s with a sound that melds alternative rock, heavy metal, and rap. Their off-the-wall sense of humor is reflected in the titles of their mega-selling 2000 album, *Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water*, and a single released last month, “Making Love to Morgan Wallen.”
