UN reimposes sanctions on Iran after nuclear talks collapse

**UN Reimposes Sanctions on Iran After Nuclear Talks Collapse**
*By Snehil Singh | Sep 28, 2025, 03:05 PM*

The United Nations has reimposed sweeping sanctions on Iran, a decade after they were first lifted. This move follows the collapse of nuclear negotiations between Iran and Western powers. The newly reinstated sanctions prohibit transactions related to Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and are expected to have a broader impact on Iran’s already struggling economy.

### Diplomatic Efforts and Calls for Dialogue

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged Iran to “accept direct talks, held in good faith” and called on UN member states to “immediately” implement the sanctions. Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of Britain, France, and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing a diplomatic solution aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. They also urged Tehran to “refrain from any escalatory action.”

### Iran’s Response and Failed Attempts to Delay Sanctions

Although Iran has permitted UN inspectors back into its nuclear sites, President Masoud Pezeshkian rejected a US proposal for a temporary pause in nuclear activity in exchange for handing over the country’s entire stockpile of enriched uranium. An effort by Russia and China to postpone the sanctions implementation until April was unsuccessful.

Germany, along with the UK and France, which spearheaded the sanctions, stated it had “no choice” but to act given Iran’s non-compliance with its international obligations.

### Diplomatic Fallout

Russia has refused to enforce the sanctions, labeling them invalid. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed the sanctions “finally exposed the West’s policy of sabotaging the pursuit of constructive solutions.” In reaction to the renewed sanctions, Iran recalled its ambassadors from the UK, France, and Germany for consultations.

### Economic Impact of the Renewed Sanctions

The reinstated sanctions are already affecting Iran’s economy. According to Iranian engineer Dariush, the exchange rate is soaring and prices are climbing. On Saturday, the US dollar reached a record high of approximately 1.12 million rials on the black market.

Despite these challenges, the Brussels-based think tank International Crisis Group noted that Iran appears dismissive of the sanctions, having already adapted to previous US restrictions.

The situation remains tense as the international community monitors developments closely, hoping for a diplomatic resolution to avoid further escalation.

Age of agitation

Protests erupted worldwide well before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. However, those demonstrations failed to prevent the invasion. Today, Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza has reignited similar global protests. Nearly every major city has witnessed streets taken over by demonstrators demanding action against what they describe as the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. So far, these atrocities have only escalated.

The Black Lives Matter movement also continues to be an ongoing struggle—now more of a campaign than a protest. Unlike the Occupy Wall Street movement, it has not faded away.

In Bangladesh, protests in 2024 led to a regime change. In 1977, the so-called Tehreek-i-Nizam-i-Mustafa protest resulted in the promulgation of martial law and the execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. However, the 126-day sit-in following the 2013 elections and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf protests after a successful no-confidence vote against the government proved futile.

Indonesia’s Suharto and the Philippines’ Marcos were ousted after prolonged, persistent mass movements. In contrast, Adolf Hitler’s downfall came through military defeat and his suicide. Mussolini of Italy and Pinochet of Chile lost power after fighting erupted within their ranks. Mussolini met a remarkably gruesome end, whereas Pinochet escaped relatively unscathed.

The Iraqi people revolted against Saddam Hussein in 1991 and again in 1999. However, these uprisings were crushed with brutal oppression, and Saddam survived as long as his international support remained intact. A similar fate befell Libya’s Gaddafi.

This brief overview suggests that street protests do not always fully represent the people’s will. This raises two key questions: why do people protest, and what determines whether protests lead to positive or negative outcomes?

### Why Do People Protest?

Psychologically speaking, protests spring from fear, anger, hope, or moral outrage. Fear remains fear only up to a certain point; once it crosses a threshold, it transforms into motivation to resist and retaliate. Fear of losing land or livelihood has sparked many recent protests.

For example, the 2016 Standing Rock Sioux protest in the USA opposed the Dakota Access Pipeline crossing sacred indigenous land. In India, some agricultural laws faced similar protests from small farmers fearing loss of income and land ownership. In 2000, residents of Kerala protested Coca-Cola’s bottling plant, which extracted 1.5 million liters of water daily, drying wells and ponds and raising pollution concerns.

Among various fears, the fear of annihilation is perhaps the strongest motivator. The Holocaust resistance movements of Jews in Nazi camps during the 1940s aimed to overcome the fear of extermination by Hitler. This fear translated first into anger and later into brutal aggression.

Palestinians and Kashmiris are motivated similarly; their protests arise from a complex interplay of fear and hope. Anti-immigrant campaigns reflect similar fears—locals feeling culturally invaded by immigrants. This sentiment was openly expressed by Angela Merkel, former Chancellor of Germany, in 2010 when she declared Germany’s multiculturalism experiment a failure.

Right-wing movements in Europe and the US exploit this fear politically. The September 13 anti-immigrant protest in London, dubbed the Unite the Kingdom rally, epitomized this trend. Participants waved English, American, Israeli, and Union Jack flags; Trump’s MAGA hats appeared prominently.

The rally raised more questions than it answered. Tony Robinson, founder of the English Defence League and an anti-Islam campaigner, was the chief organizer and symbolically significant. Elon Musk’s speech at the rally, ominous and suggesting possible violence if immigration policies did not change, underscored rising tensions.

### The Impact and Meaning of Protests

This historical survey of protests reveals various forms of suffering that compel people to outcry. However, protests motivated solely by moral outrage are relatively rare.

After the Vietnam and Iraq wars, the Palestinian cause has uniquely inspired massive global rallies. Participants often have no racial, religious, or political ties to Palestine; they are neither directly impacted by the Gaza crisis nor beneficiaries of its resolution. Yet they mobilize, stepping out of their comfort zones. This illustrates pure public solidarity, even as most governments and capitalist institutions oppose such protests.

Protests never fail completely. Even when they do not achieve their stated goals, they reflect the mass mood, highlight critical issues, express resentments, and surface collective conscience.

Whether these protests will lead to a free Palestine remains uncertain, but their participants will persist in raising their voices for justice—for people on the verge of extermination.

Katz: Gaza will be destroyed, Hamas eliminated if terror group does not disarm, return all hostages

Katz: Gaza Will Be Destroyed, Hamas Eliminated if Terror Group Does Not Disarm and Return All Hostages

Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued a stern warning to Hamas, stating that Gaza will be destroyed and Hamas eliminated if the terror group does not disarm and release all hostages. This comes as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) gain control of over half of Gaza City and continue to dismantle terror infrastructure.

During a tour in the Gaza Strip on August 5, 2025, Defense Minister Katz emphasized the urgency of disarming Hamas and securing the release of hostages to avoid further destruction.

Mumbai: Green Acres CHS Office Bearers Disqualified, Registrar Upholds Orders

The Divisional Joint Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Mumbai, has dismissed a revision application and appeal filed by four members of the Green Acres Co-operative Housing Society, Marol. The order upholds their disqualification from the managing committee and confirms the appointment of an authorised officer to oversee the society’s functioning.

### Orders Upheld

In a common order passed by Divisional Joint Registrar Shahaji Patil, the Deputy Registrar’s orders dated October 18 and October 30, 2023, were upheld. According to these 2023 orders, the Deputy Registrar had disqualified chairman Vinod Patrikar, secretary Sudhir Kasale, treasurer Nilesh Karmaran, and a committee member from holding office for five years under Section 75(5) of the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (MCS) Act, 1960.

### Appointment of Authorised Officer

Following the disqualification, the Deputy Registrar invoked Section 77(A) of the MCS Act to appoint an authorised officer. This step was necessary as the committee was left without the minimum quorum required to manage the society’s affairs.

### Arguments by Disqualified Members

The disqualified office bearers argued that they had conducted annual general meetings (AGMs) properly and maintained audited accounts with a ‘B’ grade over the past two years. They also claimed there were no irregularities in the day-to-day running of the society and sought to have the orders quashed.

### Registrar’s Findings

However, the Registrar’s office noted that the AGMs held in 2019 and 2022 failed to include statutory agenda items such as annual reports, audit rectification reports, and budget estimates. This omission violated Section 75 of the MCS Act. Additionally, despite earlier disqualifications in 2020 and directions regarding mobile tower revenues under Section 79A, the committee had not complied with the law.

### Final Order by Divisional Joint Registrar

In his order, Divisional Joint Registrar Patil held that the appellants failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or establish valid grounds to overturn the Deputy Registrar’s findings. He stated,
“The Deputy Registrar, after verifying the facts and following due process of law, has rightly passed the impugned orders, which require no interference on my part.”

The decision cements the disqualification of the four members and ensures the continued oversight of the society’s functioning through the appointed authorised officer.

Joe Rogan Calls Out TikTok Protesters Over Trump and RFK Jr. Tylenol Warning [WATCH]

Podcast Host Joe Rogan Comments on Social Media Protests Against Tylenol Use Warnings During Pregnancy

On Friday, podcast host Joe Rogan used his platform on The Joe Rogan Experience to address a wave of social media videos featuring pregnant women consuming Tylenol in opposition to health guidance issued during the Trump administration.

These protests surfaced after the administration, supported by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced findings suggesting a link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism diagnoses in children. The administration’s recommendation referenced a Harvard study as the basis for this association.

“I’ve been fascinated by these videos of pregnant women taking Tylenol to show Trump that they don’t believe in what RFK Jr. is saying, that it’s somehow anti-science when this science came from Harvard,” Rogan said during his show. “That’s where the study came from. He’s not making things up. And these people are like on TikTok — they’re pregnant women taking Tylenol.”

TikTok users posted clips showing themselves ingesting the medication, often accompanied by captions dismissing the Trump administration’s recommendation. In most videos reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation, women were seen consuming recommended doses rather than large quantities.

One widely viewed video featured a pregnant woman holding two capsules before swallowing them, with the text: “Here is me, a PREGNANT woman, taking TYLENOL because I believe in science and not someone who has no medical background.”

The Trump administration’s position aligns with prior guidance issued during the Biden-Harris administration. In 2021, the National Institutes of Health recommended that pregnant women minimize exposure by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time if acetaminophen use was necessary.

The debate intensified after internal pharmaceutical company records surfaced. Documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation revealed that Johnson & Johnson, which marketed Tylenol until it spun off its consumer products division into Kenvue in 2023, had privately acknowledged concerns years earlier.

In 2018, Rachel Weinstein, U.S. director of epidemiology for Janssen, Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceutical division, wrote: “The weight of the evidence is starting to feel heavy to me.” These records indicated that company officials had been aware of a potential link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.

Despite these concerns, many public health experts and media outlets have dismissed the Trump administration’s position, characterizing it as overstated or politically motivated.

Rogan’s remarks highlighted the contradiction between the public dismissal of the study’s significance and the private acknowledgment from the drug’s manufacturer that the evidence merited consideration.

“Taking Tylenol is not good. For this reason, they are strongly recommending women limit Tylenol use when pregnant unless medically necessary,” President Trump said on Monday.

The guidance, based on the Harvard study and supported by existing recommendations from federal health authorities, has sparked controversy as political debate intersects with scientific findings.

At this time, officials have not issued a ban on acetaminophen use during pregnancy but have reiterated the importance of caution and limited use when prescribed by a physician. The issue remains under review as policymakers and medical researchers continue to examine potential risks linked to one of the most commonly used over-the-counter medications in the United States.

Catherine Connolly highlights need for ‘courageous and independent voice’

Presidential candidate Catherine Connolly has emphasized the need for a courageous and independent voice as she spoke at a conference promoting Irish unity. The left-wing independent addressed a Sinn Féin event in Dublin alongside the party’s leader, Mary Lou McDonald, discussing a united Ireland and the desire to stand together to shape a different republic.

Ms. McDonald, who previously announced Sinn Féin’s backing for Ms. Connolly, described the clinical psychologist from Galway as a formidable, fearless, and brilliant woman.

Ms. Connolly expressed her gratitude for the support, saying, “I want to say I really treasure that support, because for the first time in the history of Ireland, we’re coming together to unite for something that’s much bigger than ourselves, bigger than me, and bigger than the differences between parties. I stand here before you humbly to say we are at a crucial point in our history where we must decide to stand together.”

She spoke passionately about improving Ireland’s public services, highlighting issues such as homelessness and the environment. Backed by other opposition parties as well, Ms. Connolly added:

“I’m not going to list out all the things that horrify you, and I know it horrifies you. We have to place it on the record that none of this is inevitable, and so we must stand together against the narrative that tells us over 16,000 people homeless is collateral damage to a successful market strategy. That is completely unacceptable to all.”

She went on to thank the various parties and courageous individuals, including TDs and senators, who have supported her candidacy. “Not because they agree with everything I say, or indeed agree with everything you say or believe in, but because we believe in core values that we must express over and over as loudly as we can against that destructive narrative. That narrative has placed the price of everything and the value of nothing one day.”

Ms. Connolly concluded with a call for fundamental rights and accountability:

“We must have housing for all our people as a basic human right, not a market product. We must have a public health system that’s accessible to everybody. We must have an integrated public transport system, and we must recognise the existential threat posed by climate change—not by naming the poorest on the ground, but by recognising that the big polluters have never, never been brought to any sense of accountability.”

Trump says he will send troops to Portland to handle ‘domestic terrorists’

President Donald Trump announced that he will send troops to Portland, Oregon, to handle what he describes as domestic terrorists, expanding his controversial deployments to additional American cities. He made the announcement on social media, stating that he is directing the Department of Defense to provide all necessary troops to protect the “war-ravaged” city of Portland.

“I am also authorizing full force, if necessary,” Mr. Trump said.

Oregon’s Democratic Governor Tina Kotek responded by saying that President Trump is abusing his authority by ordering troops to Portland, a city she said is managing its public safety concerns on its own. At a news conference on Saturday afternoon, Governor Kotek stated that she had directly told Mr. Trump earlier that day that federal troops are not needed—and expressed her belief that he does not have the authority to deploy the military there.

“We can manage our own local public safety needs. There is no insurrection. There is no threat to national security,” Ms. Kotek told reporters.

President Trump defended his decision, saying it was necessary to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities, which he described as being under siege from attacks by Antifa and other domestic terrorists.

Since the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the Republican president has escalated his efforts to confront what he calls the “radical left,” blaming them for the country’s ongoing problems with political violence.

Earlier in September, Mr. Trump described living in Portland as “like living in hell,” and said he was considering sending in federal troops—a threat he has made regarding other cities facing crime issues, including Chicago and Baltimore.

Over the summer, he deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles and has also carried out a law enforcement takeover in the District of Columbia.

In Tennessee, Memphis has been preparing for an influx of National Guard troops. On Friday, Governor Bill Lee announced that these forces will be part of a surge of resources aimed at fighting crime in the city.

TN: 31 dead in stampede at TVK chief Vijay’s rally

**31 Dead in Stampede at TVK Chief Vijay’s Rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu**

*By Snehil Singh | Sep 27, 2025, 9:30 PM*

A tragic incident unfolded at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, where a stampede claimed the lives of at least 31 people and left over 40 hospitalized. The rally was organized by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay.

### Overwhelming Crowd Turns Deadly

The gathering had swelled to tens of thousands, creating an overwhelming situation as Vijay addressed the crowd. As the situation worsened, many attendees, including children, started fainting due to the crush.

Vijay was heard pleading for police assistance and was seen distributing water bottles from his customized campaign bus to those affected. Despite these efforts, ambulances struggled to navigate through the densely packed crowd to reach the injured. The fainted individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals, though some tragically succumbed to their injuries.

### Political Reactions and Government Response

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the Tamil Nadu police for inadequate preparation in handling such a massive rally and demanded accountability from the ruling DMK government.

In response, Chief Minister MK Stalin took immediate notice of the incident. He directed state ministers Anbil Mahesh and Ma Subramaniam to proceed to Karur promptly. Former minister V Senthilbalaji was also tasked with ensuring that medical assistance reaches those affected by the crowd surge.

### Controversies Surrounding Vijay’s Rallies

Vijay’s political rallies have often been mired in controversy due to the massive crowds they attract. The DMK-led administration had previously imposed several restrictions on his events to manage scale and security concerns.

Positioning his party as a third alternative to both DMK and AIADMK, Vijay has consistently criticized both parties. At his rallies, he accuses the state government of neglecting basic public amenities such as roads, healthcare, clean water, and security.

As investigations continue, this tragic event highlights the challenges of managing large political gatherings and the urgent need for enhanced crowd control and emergency response measures at such events.

A tragic stampede at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, has claimed the lives of at least 31 people, with over 40 others hospitalized. The incident occurred during a massive gathering for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay.

### Overwhelming Crowd Leads to Chaos

The rally attracted tens of thousands of attendees, resulting in an overwhelming and uncontrollable situation as Vijay addressed the crowd. Amid the chaos, many people, including children, began to faint due to the crushing crowd and heat.

Vijay was reportedly heard pleading for police assistance and personally distributing water bottles from his customized campaign bus to ease the distress. However, the dense crowd made it extremely difficult for ambulances to reach those in urgent need. Fainted individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals, but sadly, some could not be saved.

### Political Reactions and Accountability Demands

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sharply criticized the Tamil Nadu police for inadequate preparations to manage such a large rally. The party demanded accountability from the state government led by the DMK.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin responded swiftly, taking notice of the incident and dispatching ministers Anbil Mahesh and M.A. Subramaniam to Karur. Former minister V. Senthilbalaji was also tasked with ensuring that prompt medical assistance was provided to those affected by the crowd surge.

### Vijay’s Controversial Rally History and Political Stance

Vijay’s rallies have frequently sparked controversy, prompting the DMK-led administration to impose multiple restrictions aimed at crowd management and public safety. The TVK leader positions his party as an alternative to both the DMK and AIADMK, often criticizing them in his speeches.

He has accused the state government of neglecting essential public services, including roads, healthcare, clean water, and security, vowing not to ally with either of the dominant political factions.

This tragic event underscores the critical need for better crowd control measures and emergency preparedness at large political gatherings in Tamil Nadu.
