Peru’s Machu Picchu could lose ‘Wonder of the World’

In 2007, Peru’s Machu Picchu Inca sanctuary was designated as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World after receiving more than 100 million votes in a global competition.

Now, the New7Wonders project, which organized the vote, warns that Machu Picchu is at risk of losing its credibility as one of the wonders. This is due to issues such as overtourism, limited conservation policies, and social conflicts, among others.

The organization emphasized that the fate of Machu Picchu depends on the country’s key decision-makers. These leaders have reportedly received proposals to implement a strategic transformation plan aimed at protecting and preserving the site.

When asked if Machu Picchu could lose its spot on the list and whether a different site might take its place, New7Wonders responded that it is too soon to discuss the process, how it would work, or if it would happen at all.

Kerala’s Maritime Economy Soars With ₹7,288 Crore Investment Proposals At Union Conclave

**Kerala’s Maritime Economy Gets a Rs 7,288 Crore Boost at ‘Blue Tides’ EU Conclave**

*Thiruvananthapuram:* Kerala’s maritime economy has received a significant boost with investment proposals worth Rs 7,288 crore emerging from the two-day Kerala-European Union conclave, ‘Blue Tides’, held recently in Kovalam. Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian announced this development during the conclave’s valedictory session on Friday.

The proposals were submitted by 28 investors, reflecting strong interest in Kerala’s fisheries and maritime sectors. The European Union, a key partner of the conclave alongside the Government of India, urged Kerala to establish a dedicated platform for sustained engagement with EU countries, Minister Cherian added.

“This conclave has not only achieved what it set out to do, but its outcome has exceeded expectations and set an example for the country,” said Cherian. He emphasized that the event marks the beginning of a significant push for the growth and modernization of Kerala’s fisheries sector.

Cherian also highlighted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s inaugural remarks, wherein the CM pointed out that the conclave had opened doors for innovation and sustainable, inclusive development of both the seas and the coastline.

During the event, 28 investors signed expressions of interest, signalling their commitment to future collaboration.

European Union Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, also addressed the conclave, sharing insights on the discussions held with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The ambassadors put forward a proposal to create an engagement platform with EU states, as part of ‘Team Europe’s’ efforts to explore multiple avenues for cooperation with Kerala.

Delphin noted that the conclave was viewed as a continuation of the global ‘blue economy’ summit held earlier this year in France. His team made considerable progress during dialogues with Kerala officials, identifying opportunities for collaboration, especially in healthcare and information technology sectors.

Recalling the panel discussions, Kerala Chief Secretary Dr. A Jayathilak pointed out that key topics included sustainability, advanced technology, climate change resilience, and global cooperation on logistics.

Kerala’s special representative in New Delhi, Professor K V Thomas, acknowledged the challenges faced leading up to the conclave but praised the strong support from the Chief Minister and the organizational capabilities of Minister Cherian for successfully hosting the event.

The conclave ‘Blue Tides’ signals a new chapter for Kerala’s fisheries and maritime industries, positioning the state as a promising hub for sustainable blue economy initiatives in collaboration with international partners.

Viral Video Shows Family Being Confronted For ‘Stealing Railway Bedsheets’ On Purushottam Express; Find Out What The Consequences Are Of Such Theft

**Odisha: Viral Video Sparks Outrage Over Alleged Theft of Railway Bedsheets on Purushottam Express**

A viral video from Odisha has ignited public outrage after showing a family allegedly caught stealing bedsheets from the first-class AC coach of the Purushottam Express. The incident, reportedly recorded on the platform after the train’s arrival, highlights a rather unusual but serious case of theft involving railway property.

**About the Purushottam Express**

The Purushottam Express is a superfast train running between Puri in Odisha and New Delhi. It is one of the most in-demand routes, passing through several states including Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.

**Viral Video Shows Drama Over Stealing Bedsheets**

In the video shared on X by user Bapi Sahoo, a family of three, including a woman, is seen surrounded by two Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) and other railway staff. The officials can be heard confronting the family over allegations that they tried to sneak bedsheets into their luggage.

The woman appears reluctant as she pulls out bedsheets from a bag, while the men accompanying her avoid giving clear answers. Sahoo captioned the video:
“Traveling in 1st AC of Purushottam Express is a matter of pride itself. But still people are there who don’t hesitate to steal and take home those bedsheets supplied for additional comfort during travel.”

While the clip has gone viral, details about when and where exactly the incident took place remain unconfirmed. Additionally, authorities have not released any official statement regarding whether any action was taken against the accused passengers.

**What Happens If a Passenger Is Found Stealing Railway Property?**

Passengers travelling in AC coaches are provided with linen items such as bedsheets, blankets, and pillows to enhance their travel comfort. However, these items must be returned at the end of the journey.

Railway officials emphasize that stealing or damaging railway property is a punishable offense under the Indian Railways Act, 1966. According to Section 3 of the act:

– A first-time offender may face up to one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to Rs 1,000, or both.
– For repeat or serious violations, the punishment can extend to up to five years in prison along with a higher fine.

To prevent such incidents, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel regularly conduct checks on trains and platforms.

Passengers are urged to return all provided linen items at the end of their journey to avoid any legal trouble.

Pahalgam terror attack: NIA court extends custody of accused persons by 45 days

A special NIA court in Jammu has extended by 45 days — beyond the stipulated 90-day period — the custodial remand of two accused arrested for allegedly harbouring Pakistani terrorists involved in the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in April.

Special NIA judge Sandeep Gandotra extended the investigation and remand period of Bashir Ahmad Jothat, who hails from Baisaran in Pahalgam, and Parvaiz Ahmad from Batkote in Pahalgam. The court held a prima facie case in favour of the extension of the remand and investigation, citing the allegations, progress of investigation, and pending forensic and DNA profiling reports.

Accordingly, the court granted a 45-day extension to the investigating officer for the investigation of the case beyond the initial 90-day period, applicable to accused Jothat and Ahmad. The order directed the authorities to complete the investigation as soon as possible and urged the investigating officer to expedite the probe.

The original 90-day remand period for investigation, along with an additional 10 days of judicial remand, was due to expire on Friday. After the expiry of the earlier remand, Jothat and Ahmad were produced virtually before the court on September 18, which then extended their investigation and remand period to enable the NIA to continue its probe, officials confirmed.

The judge observed that the plea for a 90-day extension of the investigation was well-founded and deserving of acceptance, especially as the probe had reached a crucial stage. Several witness statements and forensic reports were still pending, which warranted the extension.

The case, re-registered by the NIA, pertains to the killing of tourists from a particular community at Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, on April 22, 2025. The accused, Jothat and Ahmad, were arrested on June 22 and have since been held in judicial custody at Amphalla Jail in Jammu.

According to the NIA, the accused disclosed the identities of three armed terrorists involved in the attack, confirming that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated with the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The federal agency alleged that both accused had knowingly harboured these terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) in Hill Park, Pahalgam, prior to the April 22 attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, and left 16 others injured.

Asia Cup 2025: Suryakumar Yadav Shares Tips With Oman Players After Team India Wins The Match By 21 Runs

Team India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav was seen engaging warmly with Oman players after India secured a 21-run victory on Friday, September 19. During the post-match presentation, Oman captain Jatinder Singh spoke about their conversation, saying, “Surya spoke about the game and praised us, which means a lot. Our boys had enquiries about the various T20 game phases. It was a pleasure to speak with him.”

In the lead-up to the match, Jatinder had also expressed excitement about sharing the field with some of his cricketing idols. Following the game, players from both teams were seen taking pictures together, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie.

Recognizing the valiant effort from their opponents, Suryakumar Yadav led the Indian team towards the Oman dugout to initiate handshakes and exchange smiles. This gesture was especially significant, coming just days after Indian players were seen skipping handshakes with their Pakistani counterparts.

### India Escapes Defeat Against Oman

India wrapped up their group stage campaign at the Asia Cup 2025 in dominant fashion by defeating Oman by 21 runs in their final group match. With this win, India not only secured the top spot in their group but also maintained an unbeaten record heading into the Super Four stage.

Winning the toss, India captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to bat first on a pitch that looked conducive for scoring—a decision that paid off. Despite a few early setbacks, the Indian batting lineup posted a competitive total of 188/8 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson anchored the innings with a fluent 56-run knock, providing stability and momentum.

Setting a challenging target of 189, India faced an Oman side playing against the T20 World Champions for the first time. Although the Indian bowling attack was without key players Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy, they managed to maintain composure and kept Oman at bay during the crucial final overs. Oman were eventually restricted to 167/4 in 20 overs.

It was also a memorable day for Arshdeep Singh, who became the quickest pacer to reach 100 T20I wickets, achieving the milestone in just 64 matches. He is the first Indian bowler to accomplish this feat, adding another highlight to India’s victory.

Body Sent In Garbage Trolley After Post-Mortem In MP’s Damoh

**Disturbing Incident in Damoh: Murder Victim’s Body Transported in Garbage Trolley Due to Lack of Hearse Van**

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a troubling incident at Hatta town, Damoh district, the body of a murder victim was transported home in a garbage trolley after postmortem, owing to the unavailability of a hearse van at the block level.

The deceased, Devendra Lodhi, cousin of the sarpanch of Shikarpura village in Patera block, was murdered on Thursday. Following the postmortem, his family requested a hearse van to carry the body home. However, they were allegedly informed that no hearse van was available.

This has raised serious concerns, especially since the state government had launched 149 hearse vans across Madhya Pradesh on July 28 this year. Unfortunately, these vans are only stationed at district hospitals.

In Damoh, the district hospital has two hearse vans, but they are reserved exclusively for patients who pass away within hospital premises. As Lodhi’s death occurred outside the hospital, he did not qualify for the use of these vans.

Speaking to Free Press, SDM (Hatta) Rakesh Singh Markam acknowledged the issue. “Hearse vans are available at district hospitals, but not at block level. So, problems arise for people in carrying bodies. I will look into the matter and talk to CMHO as well as civil surgeon,” he said.

This incident highlights the urgent need to improve hearse van availability at block levels to prevent distressing situations like this in the future.

Charlie Kirk Legacy Should Be in ‘Dustbin of History,’ Ilhan Omar Says

Democratic U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota was confronted on Friday about whether she regrets the timing of her comments immediately following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

In an interview on CNN, Omar stated, “It’s one thing to care about his life because obviously so many people loved him, including his children and wife. But I am not going to sit here and be judged for not wanting to honor any legacy this man has left behind. That should be in the dustbin of history, and we should hopefully move on and forget the hate that he spewed every single day.”

**Why It Matters**

The Democratic congresswoman emphasized that she does not align with Kirk’s legacy, describing it as filled with “hate” and “rage baiting.”

Charlie Kirk, 31, was a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and a prominent voice of MAGA for younger generations. He had a significant social media following and was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, where he hosted a popular podcast.

Kirk was fatally shot last week on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, during a question and answer session.
