“But even if, even if, he, even if he [Biden] was functioning in an impeccable way, then if you want to accept that, the idea that we knew how he was going to be when he was 83 and 84 and 85 and 86, I think is farfetched,” Axelrod added. “And that was what was irresponsible.”

Following Biden’s disastrous debate against President Donald Trump in June 2024, White House logs reviewed by the New York Post reportedly showed a top Washington, D.C. neurologist had met with former White House physician Kevin O’Connor earlier that year.

During the debate, Biden could be seen struggling to finish his arguments and freezing mid-sentence at one point. Calls for the former president to withdraw from the race quickly came from Democrats and media pundits who had once urged him to run.

By July 21, 2024, Biden announced he would step down from the race and instead endorse former Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

As the Heat’s offense will be “tricky,” as described by Nikola Jovic, the team will need a productive starting lineup to get off to a strong start. Head coach Erik Spoelstra recently revealed whether he has settled on a set starting five.

Alumni, community fight to preserve Ligon school ahead of $141M renovation: ‘Part of our legacy’

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Several Ligon alumni are currently fighting to preserve this historically Black school. They say students not only earned diplomas there but also learned trades that helped build up the Capitol City.

Bruce Kennedy attended Ligon 54 years ago. “I left in our senior year during the integration,” he said. The lifelong Raleigh resident was part of the last high school class to attend Ligon before it was integrated and converted into a middle school. Kennedy was then sent to Sanderson High to graduate.

“I hated it,” Kennedy admitted. “I wanted to graduate from there (Ligon) all my life because all my parents, everyone in our family, had graduated from there.”

Now, decades later, the school is facing another major change. Ligon is scheduled for a $141 million renovation. However, there have also been discussions about potentially demolishing the building and rebuilding.

The school’s future sparked a tense exchange at last week’s Wake County School Board meeting. Board Member Toshiba Rice expressed frustration, saying, “It is disrespectful that I don’t know, to be honest. It is disrespectful to the people that I serve,” during the October 14th meeting. She pressed for an update on the renovation plans.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor explained that an architect was selected some time ago and that he plans to hold conversations with community members about the next steps for the project.

“We want to do our due diligence to make sure we talk to the public,” said Taylor. “If there is going to be a change or a recommendation, it is my responsibility to make sure I go and talk to them.”

Alumnus Daniel Coleman supports moving forward with the renovation, emphasizing that Ligon represents more than just a school.

“This symbolizes what Wake County is today,” Coleman said. “Everybody came out here. A lot of kids couldn’t get jobs anyplace else. So they were trained. They were plumbers or brick masons. It filled a whole gamut of educational needs for the community.”

For Kennedy, preserving the building is about honoring a legacy.

Panthers’ Brad Marchand gets real on Boston return with curious take

The Florida Panthers are the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions. They secured the Cup again last season, thanks in large part to a mid-season trade with the Boston Bruins for Brad Marchand.

Marchand spent the first 15-plus years of his professional career in Boston, where he built a near-legendary reputation for his grit, toughness, and playmaking abilities. On Tuesday night, he will make his first trip back to Boston as a member of the road team.

“The fans won’t be able to cheer because I know they don’t like the Panthers,” Marchand said Monday. “But maybe they’ll like me enough to give me a lil’ yay.”

From the 2009-2010 season, Marchand has amassed 422 goals and 554 assists, totaling 976 points. These numbers rank him fourth, sixth, and fifth respectively in team history. However, Boston fans will likely maintain their distaste for the Panthers. After all, it was only a couple of seasons ago that the Bruins posted the greatest record in NHL regular-season history, only to be upset by Florida in the first round of the playoffs.

The Panthers will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak. They started the season 3-0 but have since dropped games to the Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils, and Buffalo Sabres. All four losses came by multiple goals, with the Panthers being outscored 15-4.

Meanwhile, the Bruins find themselves in a similar situation. Despite winning their first three games, they have also lost four straight since. That said, the Bruins were not expected to compete at a high level this season, unlike the Panthers, who are expected to contend.

Marchand is off to another solid start himself. Over the first week-plus of the season, he has recorded three goals, three assists, and eight penalty minutes. At 37 years old, it does not appear the future Hall of Famer is slowing down anytime soon.
