John Fetterman Silences Kennedy Center Crowd with Rant Against Violent Rhetoric [WATCH]

Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania spoke out this week against escalating political rhetoric, urging Americans to move away from language that fuels division or violence.

Fetterman, a Democrat representing a state with a strong conservative base, said his own background shaped his perspective. “I’m the only Democrat in my family. I grew up in a conservative part of Pennsylvania, and now I grew up and I knew, I know and I love people that voted for President Trump, but they are not fascists. They’re not Nazis. They’re not trying to destroy her. The Constitution, those things,” he said.

The senator criticized what he described as a growing tendency to label political opponents with extreme terms. “That’s part of another thing I refuse to call people Nazis or fascists or I would never compare anybody, anybody to Hitler,” Fetterman said, warning that such “extreme rhetoric is going to continue” and make the country “more likely in resulting in extreme kind of outcomes and political violence.”

Fetterman mentioned conservative activist Charlie Kirk while urging empathy in the aftermath of violence. “For me, all I could say is, is like, let people grieve, give people the space. I’m not going to use that terrible thing and that passive assassination to make my argument and try to put out my views,” he said.

The senator reflected on the personal cost of political violence, citing the recent tragedies that have shaken the country. “It’s like, my god, you know, he’s a father that had his neck blown out by a bullet, and now people have forgotten President Trump was in my state was shot in the head,” he said. “And if that would have, could you imagine where our nation would be if he was hit in the same way with Kirk?”

Calling for calm, Fetterman said the country must “really got to turn the temperature down.” He added, “We can agree to disagree on these kinds of things, but right now, shutting down the government. I just can’t take it that.”

Fetterman’s remarks come amid heightened concern over rising tensions and political violence nationwide, as both parties grapple with how to lower the tone of national discourse.

Omeros (OMER) Stock Rallies 149% on $2 Billion Novo Nordisk Deal

Omeros Corporation (NASDAQ: OMER) stock soared 149% to close at $10.19 on October 15, up $6.09 from the previous day’s close of $4.10. This dramatic surge followed the announcement of a $2.1 billion licensing and asset purchase agreement with Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk for Omeros’ MASP-3 inhibitor drug candidate, zaltenibart (formerly OMS906).

### Significant Licensing Deal with Novo Nordisk

The deal grants Novo Nordisk exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize zaltenibart, which targets rare blood and kidney disorders. Under the agreement, Omeros will receive $340 million in upfront and near-term payments, with potential milestone payments boosting the total deal value to $2.1 billion. Additionally, Omeros stands to earn royalties on future sales if zaltenibart successfully reaches the market.

Trading volume exploded to 77.9 million shares on October 15, a huge increase compared to the typical daily volume of 1.2 million shares. The stock opened the day at $11.53, hitting an intraday high of $12.77 before settling at $10.19. Over the past 52 weeks, OMER stock has traded between $0.92 and $12.87.

### Financial Position and Impact of the Deal

As of June 30, 2025, Omeros held just $28.7 million in cash and short-term investments and reported a cash burn of $58.9 million during the first half of the year. Without any current product sales and operating at a chronic loss, the company’s financial position has been precarious.

The $340 million upfront payment from Novo Nordisk is expected to bolster Omeros’ cash reserves significantly, enabling the company to pay down debts and fund operations for more than a year. Despite this, at midday on October 15, Omeros’ market capitalization was just under $700 million.

### Update on Lead Drug Candidate: Narsoplimab

While zaltenibart is a promising asset, it is not Omeros’ most advanced drug candidate. Their lead product, narsoplimab, a MASP-2 inhibitor, is currently under FDA review for treating hematopoietic stem cell transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (HSCT-TMA). The FDA initially rejected narsoplimab’s application in 2021, citing difficulties in estimating treatment effects and requesting additional data.

Omeros submitted further data in December 2021. The FDA set an initial target decision date of September 25, 2025, but this was later extended to December 26, 2025. This delay extends the uncertainty regarding narsoplimab’s approval and commercial potential.

Adding to the concerns, narsoplimab failed a pivotal 2023 trial testing its efficacy in treating kidney damage from an autoimmune disorder different from HSCT-TMA. Moreover, the FDA likely requested a randomized controlled trial in 2021, a study Omeros did not conduct. Instead, the company compared a small group of 28 treated patients to similar untreated patients outside the trial.

### Looking Ahead

Omeros signaled in August 2025 that a significant deal was imminent, highlighting advanced negotiations around zaltenibart. The licensing agreement with Novo Nordisk represents a critical milestone for Omeros, potentially stabilizing the company’s finances while expanding the development prospects of zaltenibart under a major pharmaceutical partner.

Investors will be closely watching the FDA’s December decision on narsoplimab, which remains pivotal to Omeros’ future commercial success.

Jayden Daniels Faced Tough Questions Earlier This Season About Knee Injury

Jayden Daniels faced tough questions earlier this season about his lingering knee injury. By Monday night, those concerns were gone, replaced by new scrutiny over a costly late-game turnover. Daniels fumbled in the final minutes against the Chicago Bears, setting up a comeback loss for the Washington Commanders.

This week, he didn’t dodge responsibility. He took ownership of the mistake and shifted the focus toward improvement in Week 7. “But it was on me. So I take accountability,” Daniels said.

Jayden Daniels Reflects on Turnover and Slow Starts

Aside from the turnover, Daniels’ performance against Chicago was his strongest of the year. He threw three touchdown passes, overcoming an early interception, and looked like the player Washington expected when he returned from his knee issue. That’s why both he and the team want to make sure the fumble becomes just a footnote to a solid outing.

“We feel we can put up points,” Daniels said. “But we just got to be better with the details and execution, so we don’t have slow starts.”

Slow starts have been an ongoing problem for the Commanders. They’ve trailed by double digits in the first half of each of their last three games and have been outscored 36-14 in the opening quarter so far in the 2025 season. Daniels played only in the most recent game but acknowledged that the offense must set the tone early if Washington wants to stay competitive in the NFC.

Commanders Look to Bounce Back Against Cowboys

The Commanders have an opportunity to turn things around in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas ranks last in yards allowed, passing yards allowed, and third-down defense through six weeks, which could give Washington’s offense the chance to get into rhythm quickly.

Washington also received good news on Wednesday. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin returned to practice after missing time with a quadriceps injury. A return this weekend would give Daniels a significant boost.

However, the team suffered another setback at the same position. ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported, “Commanders placed WR Noah Brown on injured reserve, sidelining him for a minimum of four games.”

Fan Reactions

Fans immediately reacted to the news on social media. One fan wrote, “Hopefully Terry McLaurin can come back this week. They really need him.” Another added, “Tough break for the Commanders. Noah Brown was just starting to find rhythm in that offense. They’ll miss his physicality and reliability on third downs.”

Looking Ahead

The Commanders know the margin for error is shrinking. Daniels’ positive showing against Chicago gave them reason for optimism, but cleaning up execution and avoiding early deficits will be critical if they want to stay in the playoff race.

“We’ve got to be more consistent as a team—offense, defense, special teams,” Daniels emphasized.

Vegan Diet & Benefits for Type 1 Diabetes

Adopting a vegan diet may help offset the effects of diabetes and reduce the need for insulin among people with Type 1 diabetes. Unlike traditional recommendations, individuals on this diet do not need to limit carbohydrates or calories. Instead, they focus on consuming plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and seeds, while excluding all animal products including meat, dairy, eggs, and honey.

According to research published in the journal BMC Nutrition, individuals who followed a vegan diet were able to reduce their insulin use by 28 percent, equivalent to 12 fewer units per day. Additional benefits included an average weight loss of 11 pounds, improved cholesterol levels, and enhanced kidney function.

Cattle Look to Thursday Following Weaker Wednesday Action

Live cattle futures settled the Wednesday session with gains ranging from 20 to 35 cents. Preliminary open interest rose by 1,887 contracts on Wednesday. Additionally, 7 of the previous 10 deliveries were retendered against October live cattle for Amarillo.

Cash trade has yet to be reported this week, as the Wednesday Fed Cattle Exchange saw no bids or sales on the 1,172 head offered.

Feeder cattle futures recovered from midday lows to close the session with losses between 20 and 65 cents. The CME Feeder Cattle Index increased by another $1.45 to $374.47 on October 14.

USDA Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed in the Wednesday afternoon report, with the Choice/Select spread at $17.32. Choice boxes were up $2.06 to $366.48, while Select boxes were down $1.39 to $349.16.

USDA federally inspected cattle slaughter for Wednesday was estimated at 122,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 348,000. This figure is 13,000 head above last week but 21,193 head below the same week last year.
