Initial injury report for Texas A&M vs. Auburn reveals good news for both teams

No. 19 Texas A&M will host the Auburn Tigers on Saturday afternoon, just two weeks after their impressive victory over Notre Dame in South Bend. Late last week, head coach Mike Elko provided updates on the status of three key players. Safety Bryce Anderson, who dodged a serious injury against Notre Dame, senior linebacker Scooby Williams, who sustained an ankle injury in the same game, and senior offensive tackle Reuben Fatheree, who has yet to play this season, are all progressing toward returning to the field.

On Wednesday, three days before Texas A&M kicks off Week 5 against Auburn, the initial injury report for both teams was released. As expected, Bryce Anderson is listed as out for the game. Scooby Williams is marked as questionable, indicating about a 50% chance he will suit up. With two days remaining until kickoff, Williams will have additional time to test his ankle in hopes of playing.

Reuben Fatheree, meanwhile, will be available for the game as he was not listed on the injury report. This aligns with Coach Elko’s earlier comments that the versatile offensive lineman has made significant progress in his recovery.

For the Auburn Tigers, wide receiver Horatio Fields is out after breaking his foot earlier this week. Offensive lineman Connor Lew and defensive end Amaris Williams are both listed as questionable. Starting cornerback Jay Crawford, who is also recovering from an injury, has been upgraded to probable, giving him roughly a 75% chance to play on Saturday.

Sapporo Warns Against Placing 10 Yen Coins in Coffins

As part of funerary traditions, flowers and personal mementos are often placed in the coffin as final offerings to the deceased. However, the city of Sapporo is now cautioning that certain items—especially metals—are increasingly being included despite restrictions. This trend is creating problems as the number of cremations rises with an aging population.

Kenichi Fujita of Sapporo’s Health and Welfare Bureau explained, “As cremation numbers continue to increase, the impact of such items can no longer be ignored.” Crematoria operators have reported that metals, particularly 10 yen coins, are causing significant difficulties.

Osamu Tsumaki, manager of the Yamaguchi Crematorium in Sapporo, noted that the coins melt during cremation, sticking to the bed of the furnace and causing wear. “It damages the cremation equipment and reduces its durability, forcing more frequent replacements,” he said. In addition to altering the color of the bones, the melted coins adhere stubbornly to furnace surfaces, making removal difficult.

The practice of including coins is rooted in local customs. Residents explained that coins are placed in the coffin as a symbolic fare for crossing the River Sanzu, the mythological river separating life from the afterlife. Others said they kept surviving coins as protective charms after cremation. “When my parent died, we placed 10 yen coins. It was considered a kind of amulet,” one resident said.

Although the city has long posted notices at government counters warning against such practices, it has now produced illustrated flyers to raise broader awareness. Officials are asking for public cooperation to ensure safe and smooth cremation.

**Farmers Stage Massive Protest in Lucknow Over Unfulfilled Compensation and Rehabilitation Promises**

*Lucknow:* Farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Rashtrawadi) staged a massive protest in Lucknow on Tuesday. Arriving on bullock carts and carrying sticks, they marched from Kaiserbagh to the District Magistrate’s office to voice their grievances.

The protesters accused the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) of seizing a cremation ground and failing to deliver the compensation and rehabilitation benefits promised during land acquisition. The farmers explained that their land in Ujariyaon, acquired under the Gomti Nagar scheme in 1984, was compensated at a rate of just 84 paise per square foot. This amount was later revised by the court to ₹4.60 per square foot.

Despite a 2016 court order directing full payments, the farmers allege that the LDA has not disbursed the complete compensation, citing a lack of funds. Ashok Yadav, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Rashtrawadi), highlighted that along with monetary compensation, promises were made for jobs, housing, farmer centers, and village development — none of which have been fulfilled.

“Women of farmer families are now forced to work as domestic help to survive,” Yadav stated, underlining the dire situation faced by the community.

The protesters further alleged that of the three cremation sites originally available, only one remains, with the other two taken over by the LDA. Participating women activists emphasized, “We have written proof of the promises made, but no authority listens to us.” They added that years of appeals to both the LDA and district officials have gone unanswered.

Declaring that the farmers are caught in a struggle between the state government and the LDA, the protest leaders warned of an indefinite agitation if their 13-point demand charter is not addressed promptly.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Rashtrawadi) continues to urge authorities to fulfill their commitments and provide justice to the affected farmers.
