‘Why no panel for Manipur?’: Stalin questions Karur fact-finding mission

**’Why no panel for Manipur?’: Stalin Questions BJP’s Karur Fact-Finding Mission**

*By Chanshimla Varah | Oct 03, 2025, 03:32 PM*

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for sending a delegation of opposition MPs to Karur in the aftermath of a deadly stampede that claimed 41 lives at a rally organized by TVK chief Vijay.

Stalin questioned why similar panels were not dispatched to BJP-ruled states like Manipur following ethnic violence or during the Maha Kumbh stampede in Uttar Pradesh. He accused the BJP of pursuing political motives rather than genuine concern through such actions.

**Political Motives Behind Karur Visit**

Stalin alleged that the BJP’s initiative to send a fact-finding team to Karur was driven by the upcoming elections rather than a sincere care for Tamil Nadu. He also took aim at Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to Karur, calling it a mere “representative” gesture by the central government.

“When Tamil Nadu faced three major natural disasters, the Union Finance Minister did not visit the state, but she chose to come to Karur. The BJP is a parasite surviving by sucking the blood of others,” Stalin remarked.

**BJP Delegation’s Visit and Criticism**

The BJP’s eight-member delegation, led by actor and MP Hema Malini, met with families of the victims in Karur. Following the meeting, Malini criticized the Stalin government for not providing a larger venue for the rally. She stated, “For a star of his stature, this was unfair. Many women and young girls had come to see Vijay.” She also mentioned that TVK had requested more space for the gathering.

**Demand for Report and Inquiry**

The BJP delegation has called on Stalin to submit a detailed report outlining the primary factors that led to the stampede, despite lacking any legal or constitutional authority to demand such a report. Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur wrote to Stalin seeking information on measures being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In response, Stalin announced a judicial inquiry headed by retired Justice Aruna Jagadeesan and promised the implementation of safety guidelines for upcoming political events.

*This incident has further strained the ongoing dispute between the Tamil Nadu government and the central government over fund disbursement and administrative cooperation.*

‘Homebound’s real family was only paid ₹10,000? Director addresses rumors

**‘Homebound’s Real Family Was Only Paid ₹10,000? Director Neeraj Ghaywan Addresses Rumors**

*By Apoorva Rastogi | October 3, 2025, 4:50 PM*

Neeraj Ghaywan, the director of the critically acclaimed film *Homebound*, has recently responded to circulating reports claiming that the family whose real-life story inspired the movie was compensated with a mere ₹10,000.

In a detailed statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Ghaywan clarified that the ₹10,000 mentioned was a personal gesture made during his initial research phase and is not representative of the total compensation offered to the family.

**A Small Token, Not the Entire Compensation**

Ghaywan addressed the concerns directly, writing, “Some of you have expressed concerns about reports claiming that the family whose life inspired *Homebound* was compensated with a mere ₹10,000, a shamefully low amount. I want to clarify that this sum was a small token I personally gave to Ram Charanji (Amrit’s father) many years ago during my initial research, simply as a parting gesture.”

He further emphasized, “Please do not mistake this for the full extent of the compensation provided. Neither I, nor the producers, would ever reduce such a deeply personal story to such a pittance. The family’s contributions are invaluable and deeply meaningful to me. We have honored their trust and stories with sincere respect and significant support.”

Respecting the privacy and personal bond he shares with the real-life heroes of *Homebound*, Ghaywan chose not to disclose the complete compensation amount, stating, “I personally don’t want to mention the number because that would disrespect the bond I share with Amrit, Saiyub—the original heroes of *Homebound*.”

**About *Homebound***

Released on September 26, 2025, *Homebound* is based on journalist Basharat Peer’s 2020 New York Times essay, *Taking Amrit Home*. The film portrays the journeys of two migrant friends during India’s COVID-19 lockdown, highlighting their struggles and resilience.

The movie stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, and is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Garnering significant attention, *Homebound* has earned ₹2.9 crore worldwide so far, according to Sacnilk.

Furthermore, *Homebound* has been chosen as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards, reflecting its critical and cultural impact.

Fact Check: Did Punjab Kings Owner Preity Zinta Wrestle In WWE? Here’s The Truth Behind Viral Video

A viral video has been making rounds on social media, sparking speculation that Bollywood star and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta has made her debut in WWE. The short clip, shared on X (formerly Twitter), features a woman wrestler whose striking resemblance to Zinta, complete with her trademark dimples and radiant smile, has left fans intrigued.

However, the truth is that Preity Zinta has not entered the world of professional wrestling. The woman in the video is actually Irish WWE superstar Lyra Valkyria.

### Who is Lyra Valkyria?

Lyra Valkyria is renowned for her fierce in-ring presence and agility, quickly making waves in the wrestling world. She is the first-ever NXT Women’s North American Champion and a former NXT UK competitor, earning praise for her technical skills and consistent performances.

In April 2024, Valkyria was promoted to WWE’s Raw brand during the WWE Draft. Shortly afterward, she made an impressive run in the Queen of the Ring tournament, securing victories against Dakota Kai, Zoey Stark, and Iyo Sky to reach the finals. Although she ultimately lost to Nia Jax, Valkyria continued to make history by becoming WWE’s first Women’s Intercontinental Champion before being defeated by Becky Lynch.

Her rapid rise in WWE has cemented her as one of the brightest talents on the roster.

Recently, Lyra Valkyria got engaged to fellow Irish wrestler LJ Cleary. Cleary shared the exciting announcement on his Instagram, delighting fans of both wrestlers.

### About Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta remains a prominent figure in Indian cricket circles. As the co-owner of Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL), she has played a vital role in shaping the franchise’s identity.

Known for her enthusiastic presence at matches, hands-on management style, and strong connection with fans, Zinta has helped turn Punjab Kings into one of the most recognizable brands in the league.

In conclusion, while the viral clip stirred up rumors of a Bollywood star’s WWE debut, it is clear that the impressive wrestler in the video is Lyra Valkyria, a rising star in professional wrestling, not Preity Zinta.
