*NEW YORK (AP)* — On the eve of his sentencing, Sean “Diddy” Combs wrote a heartfelt letter to a federal judge Thursday, proclaiming himself to be a new man after confronting the depths to which he had fallen.

Combs, 55, told Judge Arun Subramanian that with his mind now clear of drugs and alcohol after spending a year in jail, he can clearly see how “rotten” he had become before his arrest in September 2024. The case led to his conviction on two prostitution-related counts, with his sentencing hearing set to begin Friday morning.

“Over the past year, there have been so many times that I wanted to give up. There have been some days I thought I would be better off dead,” Combs wrote. “The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you. I choose to live.”

A jury in July acquitted Combs of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges, but he still faces the possibility of years behind bars. His lawyers argue that the year he has already spent in jail constitutes sufficient punishment, while prosecutors are seeking at least an 11-year prison sentence.

In his letter, Combs took responsibility for his actions, writing, “I have no one to blame for my current reality and situation but myself. In my life, I have made many mistakes, but I am no longer running from them.”

He continued, “I am so sorry for the hurt that I caused, but I understand that the mere words ‘I’m sorry’ will never be good enough, as these words alone cannot erase the pain from the past.”

**Apology for Abuse of Former Girlfriend**

Combs also addressed a violent incident involving his then-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, from 2016. The attack, during which Combs hit, kicked, and dragged Ventura at a Los Angeles hotel, was captured on security camera footage.

“The scene and images of me assaulting Cassie play over and over in my head daily,” Combs wrote. “I literally lost my mind. I was dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman that I loved. I’m sorry for that and always will be.”

Footage of the assault was shown repeatedly during his two-month trial. Several women testified that Combs had beaten, threatened, blackmailed, or sexually assaulted them.

In a letter to the judge ahead of sentencing, Ventura dismissed Combs’ claims of remorse.

“I know that who he was to me—the manipulator, the aggressor, the abuser, the trafficker—is who he is as a human,” she wrote. “He has no interest in changing or becoming better. He will always be the same cruel, power-hungry, manipulative man that he is.”

Ventura noted that Combs had repeatedly denied the assault allegations until the security footage surfaced. She urged the judge to impose a sentence reflecting the strength it took for victims to come forward.

“I hope that your decision considers the many lives that Sean Combs has upended with his abuse and control,” Ventura wrote.

**Acknowledgment of Other Victims**

Combs also apologized to a woman who testified under the pseudonym “Jane.” After hearing her testimony, he said, “I realized that I hurt her.”

Jane testified that Combs had chased her around her home, put her in a chokehold, punched her in the head, kicked her while she was curled up on the ground, dragged her by her hair, and pressured her into having sex with a male sex worker.

“I lost my way. I got lost in my journey. Lost in the drugs and the excess,” Combs wrote. “My downfall was rooted in my selfishness.”

**Seeking Mercy and a Second Chance**

During his time in jail, Combs said he has been reading, writing, attending therapy, working out, and even teaching a six-week course to fellow inmates called *Free Game with Diddy*. The course imparts his business wisdom alongside lessons learned from his mistakes and failures.

He vowed never to commit another crime, telling the judge that he has undergone a spiritual reset.

Rather than making an example of him with a lengthy sentence, Combs implored Judge Subramanian to “make me an example of what a person can do if afforded a second chance.”

“If you allow me to go home to my family, I promise I will not let you down and I will make you proud,” he concluded.

Kylie Kelce reflects on pain of misccarying first pregnancy

Kylie Kelce has admitted that the emotional pain of suffering a miscarriage seven years ago “still hurts.” The 33-year-old star, who shares daughters Wyatt, six, Elliotte, four, Bennett, two, and Finn, six months, with husband Jason Kelce, first found out she was pregnant in August 2018. Tragically, she discovered she had lost the baby when she was 12 weeks along. Kylie stressed that having her other children afterwards didn’t make the loss any less painful.

Speaking on her *Not Gonna Lie* podcast, she said, “I emphasise the fact that this still hurts after having four children, because it does. And it’s okay.”

Kylie shared her experience to mark October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. She recalled how she and Jason had traveled to London so he could play a Philadelphia Eagles game in the UK before their 12-week appointment. During the trip, they broke the news of her pregnancy to Jason’s family.

She grew emotional as she recalled:
“We made it a point to surprise Jason’s mom and dad when we were there by pretending to take a photo and telling them that we were expecting. We surprised Jason’s mom and dad with a video. We also surprised Jason’s Aunt Judy and his grandmother, Grandma Mary. When we were in Cleveland, we surprised [Jason’s brother] Travis with little baby booties. All of these interactions were recorded for memory purposes.”

The podcaster described how everything “went into slow motion” when she learned during her doctor’s appointment that she had miscarried. She said,
“It felt like everything went into slow motion. And they could not find the baby on the doppler. I remember being like, ‘Oh, there isn’t a heartbeat.’ You didn’t find one because there isn’t one.”

They estimated that the baby had stopped developing between nine and ten weeks. Essentially, Kylie had experienced what is referred to as a missed miscarriage.

Kylie was initially afraid to tell Jason because it was his birthday. She cried as she said,
“It was a s***** day because it was Jason’s birthday. I called my mom and told her that I couldn’t tell Jason because it was his birthday, which seems very silly. It seems very silly because obviously I’m going to tell my husband what happened. And I did. And it was hard for both of us.”

She admitted the loss “messed with [her] brain” and that she concealed her subsequent pregnancies until she was much further along. Kylie explained,
“Having had that experience then messed with my brain for every consecutive pregnancy. So for Wyatt, we did not share that we were pregnant until I was after 20 weeks. For consecutive pregnancies, I waited till I was at least 16 weeks.”

“I Googled almost every week what the percentage likelihood was that a baby could survive, which sounds really dark. I literally did it for Finn.”

Padma Vibhushan awardee and legendary semi-classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra passed away in the early hours of Thursday, October 2. He breathed his last around 4:30 am at his residence in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. He was 89 years old.

His final rites will be performed in Kashi, and preparations are underway to bring his mortal remains to Varanasi. According to several media reports, his younger daughter, Dr. Namrata Mishra, stated that Pandit Mishra’s health worsened late on Wednesday night. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by doctors around 4:30 am.

His only son, tabla maestro Pandit Ramkumar Mishra, left Delhi for Varanasi by road, as he could not get a flight ticket immediately. He is expected to reach the city by Thursday evening.

Pandit Mishra, regarded as the last prominent semi-classical singer in the league of Girija Devi, had been battling multiple health issues over the past few months. On September 11, his condition deteriorated significantly. A 15-member medical team from Mirzapur Medical College began treating him at his residence in the Mahant Shiwala area.

His blood sugar levels had spiked, and his hemoglobin dropped to a dangerously low level. Despite intensive medical treatment, including blood transfusions at Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Mirzapur, his health continued to decline.

On September 12, doctors confirmed his hemoglobin had dropped to 7.6, causing severe pain and other complications. He was later referred to Sir Sunderlal Hospital at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), where doctors initially suspected a heart attack. However, tests ruled this out.

Pandit Mishra was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, a serious lung condition, and was placed on non-invasive ventilator support. He also suffered from Type-2 diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, and prostate enlargement. Prolonged illness had caused bedsores that led to septicemia (blood infection).

Doctors at BHU advised his family on September 15 to take him home when his condition failed to improve. Pandit Mishra had earlier expressed that he did not want to be placed on a ventilator, and his family honored his wishes.

After 13 days of treatment at BHU, he was discharged on September 26 and taken back to Mirzapur in an ambulance by his daughter.

Pandit Chhannulal Mishra was a legendary Indian classical and semi-classical vocalist from the Banaras (Varanasi) gharana. He was celebrated for his command over khayal, thumri, dadra, chaiti, kajri, and bhajan singing.

Born in 1936 in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, he later settled in Varanasi. Pandit Mishra was known not only for his powerful and emotive renditions but also for preserving traditional Banarasi folk-based forms like Hori and Chaiti.

He performed extensively across India and abroad, enchanting audiences with his soulful music.

In recognition of his immense contribution to Indian classical music, he was conferred with some of the nation’s highest civilian honors, including the Padma Bhushan in 2010 and the prestigious Padma Vibhushan in 2019.

His legacy as a torchbearer of semi-classical music will continue to inspire generations to come.
