Philippine factory activity posts unusual postpandemic decline

MANILA, Philippines — Factory activity in the Philippines slipped into contraction in September, underscoring a rare postpandemic setback for the country’s manufacturers.

The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), a widely tracked gauge of manufacturing health, fell to 49.9 last month from 50.8 in August, S&P Global said on Wednesday.

Donald Trump warns US military officials of `invasion` within country

US President Donald Trump Warns of ‘Invasion from Within’ Comparable to Foreign Enemy

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (local time) issued a stark warning about an “invasion” taking place within the country, likening it to threats posed by foreign enemies. Speaking at the Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia before top US military officials, Trump highlighted the difficulty of identifying these domestic adversaries since “they don’t wear uniforms,” according to CNN.

“We’re under invasion from within. No different than a foreign enemy, but more difficult in many ways because they don’t wear uniforms,” Trump said.

Trump also suggested that some of America’s most dangerous cities be used for military training. Addressing Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, he emphasized the importance of focusing on inner cities, calling the situation “a big part of war now.”

“In our inner cities, which we’re going to be talking about because it’s a big part of war now. It’s a big part of war. I told Pete that we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military, National Guard, but military. Because we’re going into Chicago very soon,” the President said.

He identified San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles as “very unsafe places” and pledged that his administration would tackle these areas “one-by-one.”

“San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They’re very unsafe places. And we’re gonna straighten them out one-by-one. It this is gonna be a major part for some of the people in this room. It’s a war, too. It’s a war from within,” Trump added.

Earlier, on September 21 (local time), President Trump highlighted the significant decrease in crime in Washington, DC. He said the city has become “totally different from last year,” pointing to the effect of the administration’s crime crackdown efforts.

Washington, DC has become “beautiful and safe,” Trump said, attributing the transformation to “good governance.”

In line with these statements, the US administration has been planning to deploy the National Guard to Chicago as part of President Trump’s broader anti-crime and immigration crackdown.

**EA going AI?**
Nothing about any of this sale seems good for fans — just the people doing the business. It’s going to be weird to watch the effects this has on EA’s game releases in the long run.

**A little too evergreen**
There are a few too many ongoing stories these days to which this could apply, don’t you think?

**Hinako the Hammer**
I hear the story is really, really good, but I can’t stop laughing at how silly strong Hinako seems to be.

**Battle of two honkin’ chonkers**
Fat Bear Week is almost over. Only two beefy beasties remain. Who will win?! (Go, Chunk!)

**The film magic of Buster Keaton**
The athleticism and filming sleight of hand with which Buster Keaton, other actors, and the directors pulled off these stunts will never cease to impress me.

**Happy duck**
Ducks can be quite mean, so it’s very funny to me when they’re so ridiculously playful.

**It’s Showtime! Again!!**
Nintendo Music might be the best mobile app Nintendo’s got going these days.

And there you have it. That’s your Evening Reading for this September 30.
