Trump Officials Pledge to ‘Protect Unborn Life at All Stages’

Trump Administration Officials Reaffirm Commitment to Protect Unborn Life at Geneva Consensus Declaration Anniversary

At the five-year anniversary event of the Geneva Consensus Declaration, a coalition of 40 nations affirming that there is no international right to abortion, Trump administration officials reiterated their dedication to “protect unborn life at all stages.” The declaration aims to expand health and well-being for women while protecting the sovereign right of nations to support health, life, and family through national policy and legislation.

The Institute of Women’s Health hosted members of Congress, Trump administration officials, and global leaders to celebrate the milestone. A letter from President Donald Trump was read during the event, in which he pledged to “never waver in protecting the sanctity of every human life.”

“My administration is steadfastly devoted to restoring a culture that values the inherent dignity of every child and to upholding the eternal truth that every person is created in the holy image and likeness of God, with infinite worth and boundless potential,” President Trump wrote.

Jim O’Neill, Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services, expressed pride in the Trump administration’s decision to rejoin the Geneva Consensus Declaration in January after the Biden administration’s departure from the coalition of pro-life countries.

“The denial of fundamental truths can destroy nations from within,” O’Neill said. “At the root of the evils we face—murder in the womb, the blurring of lines between sexes, and radical social agendas—is a hatred of nature as it was designed for life, the way it was meant to be lived. This ideology does not just deny biology. It declares war against it.”

O’Neill emphasized the administration’s commitment to putting the declaration’s principles into action to protect life at all stages. “President Trump reinstituted the Mexico City Policy. Taxpayers will not be forced to fund entities that provide or promote abortion as foreign family planning,” he stated.

He added, “We’ve removed transgender flags from all federal buildings. Only one flag flies above our embassies, and that is the American flag. We’ve ended taxpayer funding for the mutilation of children and radical indoctrination. Children should not be subjected to life-altering, irreversible damage and sex-trait modification.”

O’Neill promised that the Trump administration will continue advancing the Geneva Consensus Declaration’s principles on the global stage.

“Taxpayer-funded organizations and bureaucrats have sadly long undermined sovereign nations by imposing radical social agendas around the world. The era of taxpayer-funded neocolonialist promotion of leftist ideologies has come to an end, and our work is just beginning,” he said.

Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau highlighted the State Department’s top priority of recognizing national sovereignty.

“I think it’s so important for us all to recognize that the international community has no right to tell anyone of our country what our policy should be on these issues of family and women’s health,” Landau said. “Each nation-state has the right to determine, within its own borders, the policy it decides to pursue on social and cultural issues, like those affecting the family.”

Landau expressed solidarity with the Geneva Consensus Declaration’s “focus on women’s health and its commitment to families as the core of our communities and our countries.”

“We’re created in the image of God. We have families. Families build out into communities, into nations, and ultimately the world. And so, the family is ultimately the manifestation of God’s grace,” he explained. “I think it’s so important that we are all recognizing the importance of the family. This is something, frankly, that declining birth rates in so many parts of the world pose a huge problem facing humankind, and so I respect and welcome focus on these issues.”

Committed to restoring the principle of national sovereignty as central to international relations, Landau said, “Just as President Trump says he wants to make America great again, he expects the leaders of your countries to want to make your countries great again—whether it be Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, Cameroon, Egypt, or Paraguay.”

Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), a staunch pro-life advocate, expressed gratitude for the Trump administration’s respect for life in the womb.

“The Geneva Consensus Declaration, in my opinion, is an engraved invitation to each and every one of us to seriously recommit and rededicate ourselves to the best of our ability in our home countries, as well as in the international forum,” Smith said.

Smith also urged the Trump administration to intensify efforts to investigate the abortion pill and its negative side effects experienced by many women.

“In the developing world, when a woman starts hemorrhaging, it’s often a death sentence, and she’ll die quietly and horribly in her town or in her hamlet, and nobody will know,” he explained. “There’ll be no statistical gathering for these horrible effects, and that woman will die. I’m very concerned about how everyone looks the other way on the international stage about the abortion pill.”

Addressing United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Smith questioned, “Do you know how the pill works? It starves the baby to death. You and I, Mr. Secretary-General, worked on global hunger. I believe deeply in mitigating world hunger, and yet we have a situation where we’re causing hunger to the point of starvation.”

The event underscored the Trump administration’s dedication to reaffirming national sovereignty, protecting life at all stages, supporting families, and opposing international imposition of social agendas that contradict these values.

At least 2 dead, others critically injured after party in North Carolina

A shooting at a large weekend party in southeastern North Carolina resulted in two fatalities and left several others critically wounded, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

In a news release posted on social media, Sheriff Burnis Wilkins confirmed that 13 people were shot during the incident. The shooting took place just before 3 a.m. local time on Saturday at a rural location outside of Maxton, approximately 95 miles southwest of Raleigh near the South Carolina border.

Homicide investigators and other law enforcement personnel were on the scene, working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities reported that more than 150 people fled the party before officers arrived.

“There is no current threat to the community as this appears to have been an isolated incident,” the sheriff’s office stated.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and the names of those killed or injured have not been released. The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information about the incident or those present at the scene to contact investigators.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” Sheriff Wilkins said.

Back in the Day: Black beaches were a safe haven for Black life

Many of us have vacationed in Martha’s Vineyard over the years. I personally spent time at this resort in the past and always made it a point to visit its infamous Black beach, the Inkwell. For those unable to travel to this resort, there was another Black beach much closer—Chicken Bone Beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

As summer came to an end, I found myself reflecting on some of the fun activities I enjoyed on beaches I visited during past summers. While lost in these thoughts, I received an email from a nephew living in Millsboro, Delaware. He shared an article from the Delaware News Journal by Andre Lamar titled, “How Racism Led James Brown, Other Stars to Delaware Concerts at a Famous Black Beach.” The article mentioned Black beaches beyond the Inkwell and Chicken Bone Beach, prompting my thoughts to recall a Nigerian proverb I often cite: “Until the lions have their own storytellers, the tale of the hunt shall favor the hunters.”

Today, I want to take you on a journey back in time to explore the Black beaches of “back in the day.” You may have little or no knowledge of these beaches due to the absence of our own storytellers. On August 4, 2022, Travel Coterie, in partnership with TripAdvisor, observed that “just two to three generations ago, prior to desegregation, Jim Crow laws made something as simple as a trip to the beach a difficult task for Black people in America. As desegregation unfolded, Black-founded beach destinations were often stolen, destroyed or written out of existence, leaving many to be forgotten. But the sandy shores are an important part of our collective American history—ones that are well worth a trip.”

Let me take you back in time to provide a clearer understanding of Black beaches of the past.

### What Were Black Beaches?

Based on information I have gathered over the years—from my ancestors as well as various internet sources—“Black beaches,” back in the day, refers to beaches and resort areas that were developed for and frequented by Black Americans during the era of segregation. These locations provided social, cultural, and recreational spaces that were often denied elsewhere.

My reference to Black beaches specifically relates to beaches and social resort facilities of the past that served Black people. As was often the case, we developed our own beaches and resort areas, which became vital centers for Black life and were often the result of the community’s entrepreneurial spirit.

### Notable Black Beaches Across the U.S.

Besides the Inkwell and Chicken Bone Beach, other famous Black beaches include:

– **American Beach, Florida**
Established in the 1930s by the Afro-American Life Insurance Company for its employees and the Black community.

– **Highland Beach, Maryland**
The oldest Black beach, founded in 1893. It became home to prominent Black figures like Paul Robeson, Booker T. Washington, and W.E.B. Du Bois. Located on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, Highland Beach was founded by Charles Douglass, son of Frederick Douglass, after he was refused admission to the all-white Bay Ridge Resort nearby. The home built for Frederick Douglass across the Chesapeake still stands today as a museum dedicated to his life and the history of the beach.

Highland Beach was incorporated in 1922, becoming Maryland’s first Black municipality, run by an all-volunteer governing board. It quickly became a popular retreat for Black families and notable figures such as Booker T. Washington and Langston Hughes. Today, access to the private beaches is limited to residents or those staying at vacation homes nearby.

– **Bruce’s Beach, California**
Created in 1912 by Charles and Willa Bruce to provide the Black community with beach access, though the land was later seized by the government.

– **The Inkwell Beach, Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts**
A significant gathering place for Black Americans since the late 1800s. The name originated as a derogatory term due to the skin color of the beachgoers but was later reclaimed as a symbol of pride.

– **Chicken Bone Beach, Atlantic City, New Jersey**
Located at Missouri Avenue and the Boardwalk, this beach was the designated Black section of the Atlantic City beachfront. The name derives from chicken bones found in the area. From around 1900 until integration, the area was known for its vibrant atmosphere and celebrity visitors.

### Other Black Beach Communities

There were other notable Black beaches as well:

– **Idlewild, Michigan**
Founded by white developers catering to Black vacationers from the Midwest. Established in 1915, it was known as “Black Eden” and “Black Las Vegas.” The resort attracted notable figures such as Madame C.J. Walker and W.E.B. Du Bois. Ownership was transferred to the Idlewild Lot Owners Association in 1921. Entertainers like Cab Calloway and Aretha Franklin performed here. However, as desegregation allowed Black travelers access to previously off-limits locations, Idlewild slowly declined. Efforts are ongoing to restore its former glory with the help of organizations like the Idlewild Historic and Cultural Center and the National Idlewilders Club.

– **Mosquito Beach, Charleston, South Carolina**
A mid-20th century gathering spot featuring a boardwalk, pavilion, restaurants, and music clubs catering to the Black community.

– **Sag Harbor, New York**
Recognized as one of the few Black-owned beachfront communities attracting Black vacationers.

Other Black beaches include:

– Lewis Beach, Delaware (now Johnnie Walker Beach)
– Rosedale Beach, Maryland
– Elktonia-Carr’s Beach, Maryland
– Sparrow’s Beach, Maryland
– Henry’s Beach, Maryland
– Atlantic Beach, South Carolina (the only historically Black-owned beach to have remained in Black hands since its founding in 1934)
– Virginia Key Beach Park, Florida
– Freeman Beach, North Carolina
– The Inkwell, Santa Monica, California
– Amelia Island, Florida
– Buckroe Beach, Virginia
– Gulfside Assembly, Mississippi
– Freeman Park, North Carolina

I suspect there are many more Black beaches beyond those named here. If you have knowledge of others, I invite you to share them with me.

### The Impact of Integration on Black Beaches

In previous columns, I have discussed how integration—despite being a vital and necessary goal—has negatively impacted the Black economic agenda. The rise and fall of Black beaches serve as evidence of how integration contributed to the decline of these vibrant Black-owned and operated spaces that once thrived.

Bill Maher Sounds Off on Trump’s $300 Million White House Renovation: “The Symbolism Is He’s Not Leaving”

Bill Maher has some strong feelings about President Donald Trump’s latest project—and no, it’s not another social media platform.

On Friday’s episode of *Real Time with Bill Maher*, the HBO host took aim at Trump’s controversial $300 million renovation of the White House, calling it a troubling sign of permanence.

“The symbolism is he’s not leaving,” Maher told his panel. “Who puts in a giant ballroom if you’re leaving?”

Earlier that day, demolition began on the East Wing—the portion of the White House long used for guest arrivals and official events. Trump has said the planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom will be funded privately by himself, several major tech companies, and “many generous patriots.”

While Maher admitted the move “bothers” him, the conversation heated up when former RNC chairman Michael Steele pushed back on the comedian’s casual take about the White House being “just a building.”

“We watched this week the destruction of a symbol of this government,” Steele lamented. “Of our democracy, of our pluralistic society.”

“You’re talking about the White House?” Maher shot back. “Oh, it’s a building, Mike.”

Steele disagreed. “Okay, Bill, it’s a building maybe to you, but to a lot of Americans it’s not,” he said, sharing a personal connection. Growing up in Washington, D.C., Steele called the White House his “childhood.”

“I’m going to tell you as a young kid growing up in D.C., when my daddy took me by ‘that building,’ it meant something to me as a 10-year-old,” he recalled. “It meant something to me to grow up in a town where everybody in this country came and protested and cried and screamed and laughed. So that building, to me, was my childhood.”

Steele also slammed Trump for tearing down the East Wing “without accountability.”

Maher acknowledged, “He should have gotten the permits, but that’s how he does things. I agree, but it is just a building, first of all.”

The host pointed out that past presidents have made their own changes to the White House. “That part of the building wasn’t always there,” Maher noted. “Nixon put in a bowling alley. Obama made the tennis court a basketball court. I can’t get this mad about everything, Mike. I just can’t.”

Former Biden White House communications director Kate Bedingfield joined the debate, arguing that the East Wing demolition is part of a larger pattern.

“If this was the only impulsive, reckless, you know, driven by his own desire for self-aggrandizement, then I would give you it’s just a building,” she said. “But it’s not. It’s part of a manner of governing that is tearing at some of the foundations, the institutional foundations in this country. And that’s scary.”

Maher ultimately agreed that Trump’s actions and attitude go beyond architecture.

“What could President Trump not do?” he asked. “He’s drunk with power.”

Shaquille O’Neal responds to NBA gambling arrests

Shaquille O’Neal Expresses Disgust Over NBA Gambling Scandal Involving Coaches and Players

Shaquille O’Neal, the four-time NBA champion, has voiced his embarrassment following recent revelations about illegal sports betting and alleged game-fixing involving NBA figures. On Thursday, O’Neal shared his dismay over the scandal, which reportedly involves several coaches and players manipulating games through rigged gambling schemes.

The investigation has already led to the arrest of Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones, and Terry Rozier, along with 30 others suspected of involvement. Speaking on *Inside the NBA*, O’Neal said, “I’m ashamed that those guys would put their families and their careers in jeopardy.”

Billups, currently the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, and Damon Jones, a former Cleveland Cavaliers star, stand accused of assisting Mafia members in swindling wealthy individuals during high-stakes poker games. According to the indictment, Billups and other former professional athletes acted as the “face cards,” lending credibility to the games and thereby attracting victims. In return, they allegedly received a portion of the Mafia’s winnings.

Terry Rozier, a point guard for the Miami Heat, is accused of providing inside information to co-conspirators about an injury he suffered in a March 2023 game. This information allegedly enabled others to place bets on his underperformance after he left the game early.

“There’s an old saying in the hood,” O’Neal remarked. “‘All money ain’t good money.’ So if you’re making $9 million and you’re dealing a certain thing like, how much more do you need? Especially if you know you can get caught, face jail time, lose your career, and bring a bad image on yourself, your family, or the NBA.”

O’Neal added bluntly, “They dropped the ball.”

In response to the scandal, the NBA has placed both Rozier and Billups on administrative leave. Damon Jones, who is not currently employed by the league, is not subject to any NBA disciplinary measures at this time.

The NBA is actively cooperating with law enforcement authorities as the investigation continues.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the situation during the Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden on Friday, October 24.

“My initial reaction was I was deeply disturbed,” Silver said in an interview with Amazon Prime reporter Cassidy Hubbarth. “There’s nothing more important to the league and its fans than the integrity of the competition, so I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting.”

As this story develops, the NBA and its fans await further updates on one of the most serious scandals to hit the league in recent years.
