MANILA, Philippines — City & Land Developers Inc. has moved a step closer to its exit from the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) through a merger with its parent company, Cityland Development Corp. (CDC).
This development comes after securing clearance from the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC).
In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, CDC announced that the antitrust body had approved the merger, paving the way for the planned transaction.

**ICC Women’s World Cup: Rain Denies Pakistan Victory Over England**

Rain played spoilsport in Match 16 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday. Pakistan looked dominant against England and appeared well set for a victory. However, the weather had the final say, with rain denying Pakistan a possible win.
England initially struggled, finding themselves at 79/7 after 25 overs before rain interrupted play. The match was then reduced to 31 overs per side. After resumption, England fought back to reach 133/9, recovering from 75/5 in the six overs they batted after the delay.
In response, Pakistan’s openers started strongly, scoring 34 runs without loss in 6.4 overs. Unfortunately for Pakistan, rain returned and forced the match to be called off, resulting in a no result.

England’s innings was marked by regular loss of wickets as Pakistan maintained pressure throughout. Charlie Dean was England’s top scorer with a resilient 33 runs. Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana was the standout performer with the ball, claiming an impressive four-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 4/27 from 6 overs. Sadia Iqbal also made an impact, taking 2/16 from her six overs, which included two maidens.

Following this match, England remain at the top of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 standings. They are unbeaten after four matches, accumulating 7 points and boasting a superior net run rate (NRR) of +1.864, edging out Australia who are in second place.

Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ruwan Ranasinghe, announced in Parliament on 7 October 2025 that all land currently held by Sri Lankan security forces in Trincomalee will soon be released for “tourism projects.” This announcement comes amid ongoing disputes over land rights in the Tamil homeland.
Trincomalee, a historically Tamil district, has been a key target of Sinhalisation for decades. Since the end of the armed conflict in 2009, the Sri Lankan government has facilitated land grabs, enforced state-sponsored demographic changes, and repeatedly failed to return occupied land to its rightful civilian owners.
Ranasinghe claimed that the release of land aims to boost tourist investment and promote regional development in Trincomalee. However, it remains unclear whether Tamils will be able to reclaim and return to land that is rightfully theirs.
Meanwhile, farmers in Muthunagar have been participating in a continuous satyagraha protest in front of the Trincomalee District Secretariat. They demand the return of farmlands seized for a state-supported solar power project. According to the farmers, 800 acres of agricultural land have been acquired for the project, and two local reservoirs have been filled in to accommodate its development—further endangering the region’s fragile water resources.
The protesters complain that, despite repeated promises from Sri Lankan authorities, their livelihoods remain threatened as corporate interests continue to take precedence.
In July 2025, Tamil residents of Trincomalee held a peaceful demonstration opposing the leasing of land to outsiders. The protesters carried placards and chanted slogans, demanding that land be returned to the local community. They also voiced their frustration over the ongoing injustice related to land rights in the region.
Further evidence of Trincomalee’s “Sinhalisation” surfaced during the 2025 budget debate earlier this year. Shanmugan Kugathasan, an Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Member of Parliament, revealed that 3,820 acres of land had been taken over by Sinhala Buddhist monks under the guise of “Pooja Bhoomi.” This term refers to land seized for Buddhist religious use in the Tamil homeland and highlights a pattern of Buddhist temples being constructed on Tamil-owned land. These developments occur under the protection of military and police forces despite the minimal presence of a Buddhist population in the area.
The ongoing land disputes in Trincomalee reflect deep-rooted tensions and raise serious concerns about the future of the Tamil community’s connection to their ancestral lands.

Afghanistan delivered a stunning performance in the 3rd and final ODI of the 2025 series against Bangladesh, held in Abu Dhabi on October 14. The Afghans dominated the match by 200 runs, bowling out Bangladesh for a mere 93 runs. Earlier, Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 293/9.
One of the standout performers was Bilal Sami, who claimed a solid five-wicket haul, becoming the third Afghan bowler to achieve this feat against Bangladesh in ODIs. Let’s take a closer look at the Afghan bowlers who have made a significant impact with their five-wicket hauls in this fixture.
Back in November 2024, young Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar produced a brilliant bowling display against Bangladesh. He took six wickets for just 26 runs in 6.3 overs, triggering a dramatic collapse where Bangladesh’s innings slumped from 120/2 to all out for 143 in just 8.4 overs.
Afghanistan had earlier been dismissed for 235. Ghazanfar’s spell remains the best bowling figures recorded in all Bangladesh vs Afghanistan ODIs to date.
In the second ODI of the 2025 three-match series, Afghanistan’s ace spinner Rashid Khan delivered a masterclass performance, taking 5 wickets for 17 runs from 8.3 overs. This marked Rashid’s sixth five-wicket haul in ODIs.
Bangladesh were restricted to 109 runs after chasing Afghanistan’s total of 190. Rashid finished the series as the top wicket-taker with 11 wickets.
Bilal Sami starred in the third and final ODI, picking 5 wickets for 33 runs from 7.1 overs at an economy rate of 4.60. Impressively, this came in only his second ODI match, where he now boasts 5 wickets from 2 games at an average of 11.60.
With this performance, Bilal became the fourth Afghan bowler to claim a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in ODIs.
