He died after being attacked on Saturday evening with a sickle and iron rods by his three nephews and their wives, an official from the Ambhora police station said.
“The family members had been embroiled in a boundary wall and pipeline dispute for several days. One such argument ended in a fatal attack on Devkar. He sustained serious injuries in the incident,” the official added. Devkar was rushed to the hospital in Ahilyanagar on Sunday afternoon, where he later died. His son was also assaulted during the attack. “The matter is further being investigated,” the official said, according to PTI.
The police have registered a case and arrested six people in connection with the incident. Those arrested were identified as Ramdas Devkar, Rahul Devkar, and Santosh Devkar, along with their wives Kavita Devkar, Manisha Devkar, and Lata Devkar, the news agency reported.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a 36-year-old farmer was reportedly mauled to death by a leopard in a village in Beed district, police officials said on Monday, according to PTI.
The attack occurred in the Bavi-Darewadi area of Ashti tehsil on Sunday when the victim had taken his cattle out for grazing. Rajendra Vishwanath Golhar, a resident of Bavi village, went to his farm in the morning to graze his cattle but failed to return home, an official said.
Suspecting a leopard attack, villagers alerted the forest department and local authorities, who launched a search operation. Golhar’s half-eaten body was found in the fields, confirming that he was attacked by a leopard, Range Forest Officer Amol Munde stated. The post-mortem report is awaited.
In response, police and forest authorities have urged residents to avoid venturing out alone after dark. They have also initiated measures to increase patrolling and awareness campaigns across nearly 15 surrounding villages.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a stark warning about the rising prevalence of antibiotic-resistant infections in hospitals worldwide. According to data gathered from over 23 million bacterial infections across 104 countries, one in six laboratory-confirmed bacterial infections was resistant to antibiotic treatments in 2023.
### Alarming Loss of Antibiotic Effectiveness
Between 2018 and 2023, more than 40% of antibiotics lost their effectiveness against common infections affecting the blood, gut, urinary tract, and sexually transmitted diseases. This growing resistance threatens the success of treatments and puts patients’ lives at risk globally.
### Regional Disparities and Impact
The problem is most severe in low- and middle-income countries where healthcare systems tend to be weaker. Dr. Yvan Hutin, director of the WHO’s Department of Antimicrobial Resistance, described the findings as “deeply concerning,” emphasizing that “we are running out of treatment options and we are putting lives at risk.”
In particular, antibiotic resistance was found in:
– One in three bacterial infections in Southeast Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean regions.
– One in five bacterial infections in Africa.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria evolve to withstand drugs designed to kill them, making infections harder to treat.
### The Growing Toll of Drug-Resistant Infections
In 2021 alone, bacterial infections caused 7.7 million deaths worldwide. Of these, 4.71 million were linked to drug resistance, and 1.14 million were directly attributable to antibiotic-resistant infections.
### Treatment Challenges: The Threat of Gram-Negative Bacteria
The WHO report highlights particular concern about gram-negative bacteria such as *Escherichia coli* and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*, which are commonly responsible for severe infections leading to sepsis, organ failure, and death.
Dr. Hutin noted that 40% of *E. coli* and more than 55% of *K. pneumoniae* strains are now resistant to third-generation cephalosporins—the preferred first-line treatment for these infections. In the African region, resistance in these bacteria often exceeds 70%, posing significant treatment challenges.
### Urgent Calls for Action
Experts warn that if unchecked, antimicrobial resistance could reach a critical tipping point. Dr. Manica Balasegaram from the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership projects that deaths caused by drug-resistant infections could rise sharply by 70% by 2050.
To combat this growing threat, Professor Sanjib Bhakta of University College London advocates for tailored global action, which includes:
– Strengthening surveillance of antibiotic resistance.
– Ensuring equitable access to narrow-spectrum antibiotics.
– Investing in research to develop novel therapies against drug-resistant bacteria.

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has emerged as the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket for the year 2025, surpassing Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani. Siraj claimed this milestone on Day 4 of the 2nd Test against the West Indies at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium by dismissing centurion Shai Hope, who had built an innings-defining 177-run partnership with John Campbell. This wicket took Siraj’s tally to 37 Test wickets in 2025.
So far in 2025, Siraj has featured in eight Tests for India and has been a crucial pillar of the pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah. With Bumrah missing a few games to manage his workload, Siraj’s endurance and consistency have stood out. Across 15 innings this year, Siraj has taken more than 37 wickets at an impressive average of under 27.
His performance during the five-Test series against England was particularly notable, where he took 23 wickets and was named Player of the Series.
In the latest Delhi Test, Siraj surpassed Blessing Muzarabani, who had taken 36 wickets from nine matches this year. Siraj was India’s standout bowler during their 2025 tour of England, where he claimed the pivotal series-leveling wicket in the fifth and final Test at The Oval.
In total, Siraj has played 43 Tests, taking over 130 wickets at an average of under 30. His career includes eight four-wicket hauls and five five-wicket hauls. Most recently, he starred in India’s comprehensive innings victory over the West Indies in the 1st Test at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, taking 4/40 and 3/31.
Siraj’s rise to becoming a lethal Test bowler has been nothing short of remarkable. However, his journey has not been without hardship. Just days before his Test debut in the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Siraj suffered the tragic loss of his father due to illness.
Complicating matters, Siraj was confined to a strict COVID-19 bio-bubble in Australia and was unable to attend his father’s last rites back in India. His resilience and determination to succeed despite personal loss speak volumes about his character and endurance.
Mohammed Siraj continues to be a vital asset for India’s Test team, and his performances in 2025 have firmly established him as one of the premier pacers in world cricket.
