**Monkeys Escape After Truck Overturns on Mississippi Highway**

*HEIDELBERG, Miss. (AP)* — Monkeys being transported on a Mississippi highway escaped captivity Tuesday after the truck carrying them overturned, according to law enforcement officials.

All but one of the escaped monkeys were killed, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook post, warning that the monkeys were “aggressive.” It remains unclear how many monkeys were originally in the truck.

The truck was carrying Rhesus monkeys, which typically weigh around 16 pounds (7.7 kilograms) and are among the most medically studied animals on the planet. The monkeys were being housed at the Tulane University National Biomedical Research Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, an institution that routinely provides primates to scientific research organizations.

In a statement, Tulane University clarified that the monkeys do not belong to the university, nor were they being transported by the university. Details about the ownership of the monkeys, who was transporting them, and their intended destination have not been disclosed.

Video footage shows monkeys crawling through tall grass on the side of Interstate 59 just north of Heidelberg, Mississippi. Wooden crates labeled “live animals” were found crumpled and scattered around the crash site.

Initially, the sheriff’s department stated that the monkeys were carrying diseases including herpes, but Tulane University later countered in a statement that the monkeys “have not been exposed to any infectious agent.” The sheriff’s department noted that the truck driver informed law enforcement that the monkeys were dangerous and required handling with personal protective equipment.

Tulane University said it is cooperating with law enforcement authorities. Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries was also on the scene.

The crash occurred approximately 100 miles (160 kilometers) from the state capital, Jackson. The cause of the truck overturn remains unknown.

Notable exterior features include:

– Round LED taillights and adaptive headlights
– Brake-cooling ducts
– Front and rear cameras
– Four-finned rear diffuser and Aero Bridge downforce channel
– Quad exhaust outlets and rear fog light
– 20″ Y-spoke forged wheels mounted with Michelin tires

Safety and handling enhancements comprise an Adaptive Frontlight System, magnetorheological suspension, a front-axle lift system, carbon-ceramic brakes with Alluminio-finished calipers, and parking sensors. Recent maintenance includes replacement of hood shocks (September 2025), a brake fluid flush and reservoir cap replacement (July 2025), an oil change and air filter replacement (July 2025), and accessory drive belts replacement (September 2025).

Inside, the cabin is adorned with heated power-adjustable bucket seats trimmed in Inchiostro leather with Alcantara inserts. The headrests feature elegant Cavallino Rampante embroidery, while black leather accents the dashboard, door panels, and center console. Blue stitching and glossy Blu Swaters trim further enhance the refined interior atmosphere.

Driver and passenger amenities are comprehensive, including:

– Auxiliary passenger display and Ferrari track telemetry
– JBL audio system and Apple CarPlay
– Cruise control
– Machined aluminum pedals
– Dual-zone automatic climate control

The leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel is equipped with paddle shifters, a manettino drive-mode selector, an ignition button, LED shift lights, and additional controls for a fully immersive driving experience. Instrumentation features a central 10,000-rpm tachometer accompanied by dual multifunction display screens.

A special plaque mounted between the seats confirms that this car is the only F12berlinetta inspired by the 1961 250 GT Berlinetta SWB “SEFAC.” Another plaque located in the trunk details the color scheme and optional equipment.

This Ferrari was acquired by the selling dealer in 2025 and is now offered for sale in California. Included with the car are the original window sticker, owner’s manual, car cover, battery tender, and a clean Carfax report confirming no accidents or damage. The title is a duplicate issued in Kentucky.

Originally delivered to The Collection in Coral Gables, Florida, the window sticker lists the factory equipment, options, and a total suggested retail price of $513,499.
