Indore News: Nursing Students Gain New Perspective On Sustainability

**Educational Tour: B.Sc. Nursing Students Visit Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development**

*Indore (Madhya Pradesh)* – A group of 41 final-year B.Sc. nursing students from a private college, accompanied by their faculty members, recently visited the Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development in Sanawadiya as part of an educational tour. The visit provided the students with hands-on experience in sustainable living and clean lifestyle practices.

The group was warmly received by the centre director, Padma Shri Janak Palta McGilligan, who personally conducted a detailed tour of the campus. Surrounded by diverse plant life, the students observed various sustainable models in action, including organic farming, solar cooking, solar food processing using dryers, and renewable energy generation through solar and wind power.

Tuhina Jha, an intern at the centre with a background in economics, demonstrated a collection of 65 everyday products made through chemical-free and zero-waste processes, showcasing innovative approaches to sustainability.

Following the campus tour, the students participated in an interactive session with Padma Shri Janak Palta McGilligan. She shared her personal journey, recounting how a year-long hospitalisation in the mid-1960s, following India’s first successful open-heart surgery, deeply influenced her perspective on healthcare. She credited the compassionate care she received from nurses as a pivotal influence in her life and subsequent work, which included empowering tribal girls, volunteering during a guinea worm eradication campaign in Jhabua, and continuing public service despite undergoing multiple cancer surgeries.

“A good nurse is more important than a doctor because they spend more time with patients, and their care significantly supports recovery,” she emphasized while addressing the students.

Faculty member Tanvi Jha also spoke on the importance of internal health, highlighting that a nursing career demands strong mental resilience to manage stress and serve others with dedication.

The students expressed their reflections following the session. Aditya Baghel remarked that the visit shifted his understanding of sustainability and underscored the need to conserve natural resources. Alisha Shaikh was inspired by the centre’s zero-waste approach to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. Payal Gautam noted the positive impact of a chemical-free environment on physical and mental health.

Rakhee found herself moved by McGilligan’s lifelong commitment to social work and community service. Meanwhile, Jamuna Digal appreciated the solar-powered cooking and preservation techniques, saying they motivate her to practice eco-friendly habits.

This visit provided the nursing students with valuable insights into sustainable living and reinforced the vital role of comprehensive care in healthcare.

PM Modi Accuses Congress Of Weakening India’s Fight Against Terrorism, Says Party Bowed To Foreign Pressure After 26/11; Video

**PM Narendra Modi’s Two-Day Mumbai Visit: Sharp Criticism of Congress, Inauguration of Major Projects, and Calls for Swadeshi**

During his two-day visit to Mumbai on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, alleging that its “weakness strengthened terrorism.” He claimed that the Congress-led UPA government had restrained India’s defence forces from retaliating against Pakistan after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, acting under foreign pressure.

### PM Demands Answers on 26/11 Response

Modi demanded accountability, saying, “The Congress must reveal who in their party acted under pressure from another country and played with the emotions of Mumbaikars.” He emphasized that Mumbai, the country’s financial and most vibrant capital, became a target of terrorism in 2008.

Referring to former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s interview, the Prime Minister alleged that the Congress government denied the armed forces permission to carry out a counteroffensive on Pakistan despite being fully prepared.

“This weakness of Congress strengthened terrorism and compromised national security. The country paid the price with the loss of precious lives. For the BJP, nothing stands above the nation and its security,” Modi asserted.

### PM Inaugurates ₹31,850-Crore Projects in Mumbai

Arriving in Mumbai, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated multiple development projects worth ₹31,850 crore aimed at improving infrastructure and connectivity in the city.

He also criticized the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government for halting work on the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line. Modi alleged that their decision caused “a loss of thousands of crores” and deprived Mumbaikars of crucial transport benefits.

“In a city where every minute counts, stopping the Metro for three to four years is no less than a sin,” he stated, accusing the coalition government of obstructing development for political gain.

### Calls for Swadeshi During Diwali

Speaking about economic progress, Modi highlighted record-breaking sales during Navratri following GST reforms. He appealed to citizens to buy Swadeshi goods during Diwali, stating, “If every Indian opts for Swadeshi, our money will stay within the country and generate employment for Indians.”

### Highlighting India’s Infrastructure and Aviation Growth

The Prime Minister underlined India’s rapid progress over the past 11 years, citing examples such as the introduction of Vande Bharat trains, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, new highways, and tunnels, which all represent the nation’s transformation.

He further added that the Vadhavan Port in Palghar will generate massive employment opportunities.

Modi also pointed out that the number of airports in India has more than doubled—from 74 in 2014 to over 160 in 2025. Indian airlines have ordered over 1,000 new aircraft, creating vast opportunities for pilots, engineers, cabin crew, and ground staff.

“India will become a global hub for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) by the end of this decade,” the Prime Minister said, highlighting the country’s aviation aspirations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit focused on addressing past security failures, inaugurating significant infrastructure projects, and encouraging economic self-reliance through Swadeshi initiatives, underscoring his vision for a strong and prosperous India.

Sohrabuddin Encounter Case: CBI Accepts Special Court Acquittal Of 22 Accused; HC Appeal Scheduled For October 15

CBI Accepts Acquittal Verdict in 2005 Sohrabuddin Shaikh Fake Encounter Case

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the Bombay High Court on Wednesday that it has accepted the verdict by the special CBI court, Mumbai, acquitting all 22 accused in the alleged 2005 fake encounter case involving gangster Sohrabuddin Shaikh and his aide Tulsiram Prajapati. The central agency also stated that it would not challenge the acquittal before the High Court.

Details of the Acquittal

In December 2018, the special court acquitted all 22 accused, observing that the prosecution failed to establish a strong case indicating any conspiracy to kill Sohrabuddin and others. It also noted that the accused had no proven role in the incident.

Appeal Filed by Family

Sohrabuddin’s brothers, Rubabuddin and Nayabuddin Shaikh, filed an appeal in April 2019 before the Bombay High Court, challenging the special court’s judgment.

Background of the Case

Sohrabuddin, who was alleged to be a gangster, was killed in an encounter near Ahmedabad by the Gujarat police in November 2006. His wife, Kausar Bi, was also allegedly killed. In December 2006, Tulsiram Prajapati—considered a key eyewitness—was killed in another alleged encounter.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court transferred the investigation to the CBI and shifted the trial to a special CBI court in Mumbai.

High Court Hearing

The appeal was heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad on Wednesday. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, representing the CBI, conveyed that the agency would not be filing any appeal against the special court’s judgment.

“We (CBI) have accepted the acquittal judgment,” Singh told the court.

Claims by the Family

The appeal filed by Sohrabuddin’s brothers argued that the trial was flawed. They cited instances where witnesses claimed their testimonies were not recorded accurately by the trial court.

“The witnesses have claimed their testimonies were not recorded as stated by them during the trial,” the advocate representing the family said.

The appeal sought for the judgment to be quashed and for a retrial to be ordered. The High Court asked the advocate to submit a chart listing the witnesses whose statements were allegedly not recorded accurately.

The matter has been scheduled for the next hearing on October 15.

Special Court Observations

On December 21, 2018, the special court acquitted all accused, citing insufficient evidence and the prosecution’s failure to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court also observed that the CBI had failed to establish any nexus between the accused officers and local politicians, some of whom were also named in the case.
