Lakers’ Austin Reaves won’t play vs. Hawks due to groin injury

LeBron James is currently dealing with sciatica and has yet to suit up this season. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic has already missed four games due to finger and lower-body injuries. Adding to the Lakers’ woes, Austin Reaves is being ruled out for the third consecutive contest because of a right groin strain, according to NBA correspondent Marc Stein.

Despite these setbacks, the Los Angeles Lakers (7-2) are surging through adversity and climbing toward the top of the Western Conference standings. While it’s still early in the season for fans to get overly excited, there was a time when these key absences would have severely impacted the team’s performance.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick has done an excellent job laying down a solid foundation that his players can rely on when challenges arise. Even though a skilled scorer and impactful playmaker like Austin Reaves will be out of action against the Atlanta Hawks (4-4) on Saturday, there is reason to believe the Lakers can still thrive.

The Hawks have their own injury concerns, as All-Star point guard Trae Young is recovering from a sprained MCL. Redick can also depend on Doncic to step up on offense if necessary. However, a healthy Austin Reaves remains integral to the Lakers’ championship hopes.

Reaves, 27, is currently averaging 31.1 points on 48.9% shooting, along with 9.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. Beyond these impressive numbers, he has embraced his increased workload during LeBron James’ absence. If Reaves can maintain this outstanding form throughout the season, the undrafted native of Newark, Arkansas, is poised to sign a significant contract next summer—with a $14.8 million player option at the end of this season.

While Reaves is undoubtedly eager to return to the court, he will trust teammates like Luka Doncic, Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura, and the rest of the squad to secure a win in Atlanta.

Tip-off against the Hawks is scheduled for Saturday at approximately 8 p.m. ET.

MAGA host panics over big Dem election wins: ‘I’m afraid our midterms will look like this’

Pro-MAGA host Gina Loudon expressed concern that Republicans might lose in the upcoming midterm elections after Democrats dominated election night on Tuesday. Speaking on Real America’s Voice following President Donald Trump’s address to Republican senators on Wednesday, Loudon shared her thoughts on the election results.

“Yeah, first of all, I think it was nice to see a president that was so presidential, as he stayed very calm, he didn’t really respond to any of the silliness of Mamdani, all the rest of it,” she explained.

Loudon continued, “I think that the consensus is, I’m looking through our chat, and I think that, to put it very succinctly, President Trump, being president, is a huge job. That’s obviously an understatement. He has spent a lot of time looking out at the world and trying to fix things. I think it is time to come home and to focus on our, especially our economy.”

According to Loudon, “People are feeling completely disabled economically. And if we don’t come home and focus on our domestic issues, I’m afraid our midterms will look like this.”

Correspondent David Zere agreed with her assessment. “And the foreign policy is critical,” he said, “but people can’t survive.” He added, “Lettuce is still $3 a head in the supermarket. And Trump’s economic agenda has not kicked in yet, but people can’t wait, and that’s exactly what Mamdani took advantage on yesterday in New York City.”

Loudon argued that Republicans were losing elections because they were “letting [Democrats] label us as these, you know, awful, selfish capitalists.”

She emphasized the distinction between Donald Trump and a tyrant, stating, “Yes, Donald Trump is wealthy, but he wants every American to be wealthy. He said it many times. He’s working for it every single day. And I think it’s going to take more than nine months to get it done,” she remarked.

McCarthy: “I call it the ‘Seinfeld’ shutdown because it’s a shutdown about nothing.”

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has criticized Democrats for declining to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government open without conditions.

“I call it the ‘Seinfeld’ shutdown because it’s a shutdown about nothing,” the California Republican told CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett. He was referencing the common joke that the seminal sitcom *Seinfeld* was a “show about nothing.”

McCarthy contrasted the current impasse with the situation in 2013, saying it is “the reverse [of] where Republicans were,” when some GOP lawmakers pushed for a spending bill that would roll back the Affordable Care Act, while Democrats advocated for a “clean” bill to fund the government. That standoff led to a 16-day government shutdown before Republicans ultimately conceded to Democrats.

This year, the roles appear reversed. Republicans are pushing for a clean bill to keep the government open at existing spending levels. Meanwhile, Democrats are demanding extensions to expiring health insurance subsidies and a rollback of Medicaid restrictions passed earlier this year.

Democrats argue that immediate negotiations over health insurance tax credits are crucial to prevent millions of people from facing higher premiums. Republican leaders say they are open to negotiating on health care — but only after the shutdown ends.

McCarthy accused Democratic leaders of “trying to find a message” and being “fearful” of their party’s rank-and-file members. He also noted a key difference from prior funding fights: the country is now more divided, with each side blaming the other, making it difficult to pinpoint who is responsible for the stalemate.
