Dispatch Season 1’s success makes Season 2 a real question for AdHoc Studio

AdHoc Studio is a late success story for a smaller developer in 2025, having achieved sales of over 1 million copies with its new narrative title, *Dispatch*.

Season 1 of *Dispatch* wraps up this Wednesday, but the game is already the talk of the internet, with players raving about its diverse characters and memorable moments. Given the strong performance of the first season, a second season now seems more likely, according to the developers.

Nick Herman, co-founder of AdHoc Studio and co-director of *Dispatch*, discussed the possibility of a Season 2 during an appearance on the *Friends Per Second* podcast, as reported by GamesRadar. Herman shared some insight into the game’s unexpected early success:

> “Just to give you a timeline of events, it was just a little under a week ago that *Dispatch* first released, which is to say that when the game launched, AdHoc Studio had no idea what to expect. But this far in, with an Overwhelmingly Positive review rating and over 1 million units sold in ten days, the game has fared extraordinarily well.”

Part of the game’s success can be attributed to its ability to capture the classic Telltale-style narrative gameplay while also respecting players’ time. Senior Editor Ozzie Mejia noted that *Dispatch* manages to deliver engaging storytelling without unnecessary filler, which has resonated well with fans.

With such a promising start, fans of *Dispatch* have plenty of reasons to be excited about what AdHoc Studio has in store next.

New York City’s mayoral election: Letters to the Editor — Nov. 4, 2025

The Issue: New York City’s Mayoral Election Sparks Heated Debate

Polls currently show Zohran Mamdani in the lead as New Yorkers prepare to choose their next mayor. It is astonishing to some that the city is on the verge of electing Mamdani, who critics label as a communist and terrorist sympathizer, accusing him of being pro-crime, anti-American, antisemitic, and anti-Italian (“Turnout set for record high, giving Cuo edge,” Nov. 3).

His policies, opponents argue, have failed wherever they have been tried in the past. They question whether this “child of privilege,” who has never held a job in the private sector, truly possesses a magic formula to make them work now. As one voice reminds us, our founders warned that the greatest threat to the country is an uninformed electorate—and many feel that is precisely where we are today.
— Joseph Paino, Manhattan

Another cautionary voice urges voters, especially Gen Z, to be careful what they wish for. They recommend speaking with Cuban immigrants to understand the realities that might come with Mamdani’s leadership. Many Cubans fled their country desperate to escape communism, and they emphasize that wealthier politicians who preach equality often do so without understanding or experiencing the hardships faced by ordinary people. The warning is clear:
“There is only one thing worse than a communist running this city, and that is a communist who does not know what he’s doing.”
— Joanne Passero, Forest Hills

From Staten Island, where the vote traditionally favors Republicans, comes a plea to consider the consequences carefully. While acknowledging incumbent Andrew Cuomo’s flaws, some stress that a vote for Curtis Sliwa, rather than Cuomo, would lead to unacceptable outcomes. In their view, Cuomo is the only candidate capable of preventing what they describe as a mayor who is “an antisemitic lunatic.”
— Rob Feuerstein, Staten Island

Many New Yorkers agree that this election has never been more critical. Critics describe Mamdani as a wealthy individual who has never worked a day in his life and demonstrate open hostility toward Jews and America. Cuomo is seen by some as an arrogant failure responsible for mishandling the COVID-19 crisis and accusations of inappropriate conduct. Meanwhile, supporters highlight Curtis Sliwa’s four decades of public service at his own expense, emphasizing that he has concrete plans to improve the city. For these voters, a Sliwa vote represents hope for positive change.
— D. V. Leavy, Middle Village

Support for Sliwa is not unanimous, however. One Bronx resident compares Sliwa’s recent conduct to that of a spoiled child refusing to accept an umpire’s call, leading to his team forfeiting a championship—urging Sliwa to resign and support Cuomo instead.
— Tom McBride, The Bronx

A New Jersey voter weighs in, noting that while Mamdani’s followers imagine a “day of reckoning” with promises of free benefits, the reality under Cuomo has been very different. The frustration over Cuomo’s failure to accept his primary loss and Sliwa’s chances has led them to dub the coming election day as a “day of ‘wreck’-oning.”
— Storm Destro, Bayonne, NJ

To Republicans living in New York City, there is an acknowledgment of the usual feelings of helplessness during elections. Despite reluctance to compromise principles, some argue the stakes are too high to let a socialist propagandist assume the mayor’s office. While not explicitly endorsing a candidate, the sentiment is clear: rejecting Mamdani is essential for the city’s future.
— Bo Madden, Jupiter, Fla.

Finally, a voice from Lakewood, New Jersey, draws wisdom from the popular TV show “Rhoda,” reminding New Yorkers that this election may be their last chance to choose wisely:
“Hey, New York, this is your last chance!”

They warn: Mamdani will destroy the city, and those endorsing him remain indifferent to the everyday lives of residents once they retreat to their gated homes guarded by security.
— Joe Tama, Lakewood, NJ

As New Yorkers cast their ballots, the city stands at a crossroads, with passionate opinions on all sides about who can best lead the city forward.

Argentina’s midterm election hands landslide win to Milei’s libertarian overhaul

Early results from Argentina’s legislative elections on Sunday revealed a landslide victory for President Javier Milei, as voters overwhelmingly backed his free-market reforms and deep austerity measures. This outcome provides a strong boost for the libertarian leader to continue his ambitious economic overhaul.

President Milei’s party, La Libertad Avanza, secured 41.5% of the vote in Buenos Aires province, compared with 40.8% for the Peronist coalition, according to official results. This is significant, as the province has long been a political stronghold for the Peronists, marking a dramatic political shift in the region.

Nationwide, La Libertad Avanza won 64 seats in the House of Deputies, up from 37, according to government figures. Milei aimed to expand his small minority in Congress and retain the support of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The Trump administration recently provided Argentina with a hefty financial bailout but had threatened to withdraw support if Milei’s government did not perform well in the elections.

In this midterm vote, half of Argentina’s lower Chamber of Deputies—127 seats—as well as a third of the Senate—24 seats—were contested. The Peronist opposition remains the largest minority in both houses, while Milei’s relatively new party previously held only 37 deputies and six senators.

The White House and foreign investors have praised the government’s achievements, including the significant reduction of monthly inflation from 12.8% before Milei’s inauguration to 2.1% last month. Additionally, the government has managed to achieve a fiscal surplus and implement sweeping deregulation measures.

However, Milei’s popularity had dipped in recent months due to public frustration with his cuts to public spending and a corruption scandal involving his sister, who also serves as his chief of staff.

Political experts noted that securing more than 35% of the vote would be a positive outcome for Milei’s administration. It could enable him, through alliances with other parties, to block efforts by opposition lawmakers aiming to overturn his vetoes on laws he argues threaten Argentina’s fiscal balance.

Looking ahead, Milei has announced plans for a cabinet shake-up after the election, potentially including members of the centrist PRO party—a frequent ally in Congress led by former President Mauricio Macri.

The election results will be welcomed by the White House. Trump’s potential $40 billion bailout package for Argentina includes a signed $20 billion currency swap and a possible $20 billion debt investment facility.

Financial markets are expected to rally on Monday as bonds and stocks respond positively to the news. The results provide Milei with the necessary votes and political capital to accelerate his reform agenda.

Following the election, many analysts predict a devaluation of the peso, which they say has been overvalued to help contain inflation. This development could further impact Argentina’s economic trajectory in the months to come.

The Week Ahead: Fed Rate Cut and Mag 7 Earnings Could Boost Crypto Market

Microsoft is set to report its Q1 fiscal year 2026 earnings on Wednesday after the market closes. Wall Street analysts are forecasting adjusted earnings of $3.68 per share, representing an 11% increase from the previous year. Revenue is expected to show strong growth, particularly within Microsoft’s cloud business. Azure cloud platform revenue is projected to reach $23 billion, marking a 38% year-over-year increase. Overall, the company’s total revenue is forecasted at $75.5 billion, up 15% compared to the same period last year.

Analyst feedback ahead of the earnings release has been largely positive. Deutsche Bank noted overwhelmingly favorable responses from Microsoft customers regarding the company’s competitive positioning. Citi analysts highlighted strong demand for Azure services from both corporate and public sector clients, indicating infrastructure spending remains a key focus for investors.

In line with this, Microsoft revealed it invested $30 billion in data centers and cloud infrastructure in its most recent quarter. Bank of America analysts project full-year capital expenditures could reach $125 billion, exceeding Wall Street’s consensus estimate by $10 billion. This significant spending signals robust demand for AI infrastructure suppliers, including Nvidia. Earnings reports this week from Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta will provide valuable insights into the demand outlook for AI chips and data center equipment.

**Federal Reserve Rate Decision Takes Center Stage**

The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points to 4% on Wednesday. Markets are pricing in near certainty of this move, with futures markets also indicating another rate cut is likely in December. If these expectations materialize, it would bring total easing to 150 basis points since September 2024.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s post-decision press conference is anticipated to omit economic forecasts or explicit rate projections. Instead, investors will focus on his comments regarding labor market conditions and inflation expectations. Powell is expected to continue expressing caution about potential employment risks while characterizing tariff-related inflation as a temporary issue.

Additionally, the Fed’s quantitative tightening program may see changes soon. Powell recently suggested conditions are nearing a point where the central bank could end its balance sheet runoff. Banking system reserves have fallen below $3 trillion—a level still considered ample for liquidity—which could influence the Fed’s policy moves going forward.

**Crypto Markets Show Resilience Ahead of Key Economic Events**

Cryptocurrency markets have demonstrated strength ahead of this week’s major economic announcements. Bitcoin rose 1.7% over 24 hours, reaching $113,600 and extending a three-day winning streak. This upside momentum follows signs of seller exhaustion near the 200-day simple moving average at $108,800. The next resistance level for Bitcoin is the 50-day moving average at $114,250.

Other major cryptocurrencies also gained ground. XRP surged 3% and climbed above its 200-day moving average at $2.60. Ether and Solana posted similar 3% gains over the same period. These movements occurred as traders positioned themselves ahead of the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan’s upcoming policy decisions.

**Upcoming Central Bank and Geopolitical Events to Influence Markets**

The Bank of Japan is scheduled to hold its policy meeting on Thursday, with expectations that interest rates will remain unchanged. Markets currently price in a potential quarter-point rate cut by early 2026. Updates to the BOJ’s economic forecasts could introduce volatility to global markets.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet Thursday in South Korea during the APEC Summit. Both leaders have released statements indicating progress toward a trade agreement. The outcomes of this high-profile meeting may sway risk asset sentiment in the short term.

**Big Tech Earnings and AI Spending in Focus**

This week’s earnings calendar is packed with reports from major technology companies including Apple, Meta Platforms, Alphabet, and Microsoft. Investors will be closely monitoring these earnings for indications of AI-related spending trends, which have been a key driver of market gains since 2023.

The collective performance of these tech giants will provide critical insights into the demand dynamics for next-generation technologies and infrastructure, shaping market expectations for the coming quarters.

Stay tuned for full coverage and analysis as these events unfold.

Inside The Shockingly Pain Free Making Of A New Adult Swim Classic

To the casual viewer, Adult Swim might just seem like the playground of *Rick and Morty*, a repository for beloved animated reruns, or the birthplace of pop culture relics only understood as meme characters by younger generations. But for those tuned to a stranger frequency—the real heads and Sickos—Adult Swim is something far more exciting: a creative fault line where the wacky, the wild, and the wildly original still erupt without warning.

It’s one of the last arenas on television where sheer imaginative chaos is celebrated. Many of the best Adult Swim shows resemble the kind of unfiltered creativity that might as well have oozed right out of the primordial soup and stumbled in front of a television camera, making it hard to imagine these shows going through a traditional development process.

After Joe Cappa’s animated short *Ghost Dogs* premiered at Sundance in 2021, he dove headfirst into making odd, wonderful videos for social media. Some, like the viral “Scooby Doo Shuffle,” “Dino Girl,” and his bizarre *Coupla Boys*, caught fire online, landing him gigs with Giphy and Bento Box. But it was *The Gabbagooblins*, a warped fever dream that exploded on TikTok, that really turned heads—especially at Adult Swim.

The network wasted no time commissioning a follow-up for their cult-favorite *Off the Air*, curated by Dave Hughes (also the brains behind *Adult Swim SMALLS*). Now that he was officially in the system, so to speak, Cappa pitched a strangely restorative *SMALLS* project about three jacked brothers who are innocently obsessed with their widowed dad. Thus, *HAHA, You Clowns* was born.

Fans devoured the 2-3 minute shorts, and now it’s a full-fledged series. I caught up with Cappa to talk about bringing *HAHA, You Clowns* to the big leagues, and what fuels his hilariously specific brand of comedy.

### Challenging Animation Industry Norms

The animation industry has been overwhelmingly homogenized in recent years, with many falsely believing that animation is a medium solely for children, or that adult animation can only resemble something like *The Simpsons* or *South Park*. There is plenty of incredible subversive, transgressive, and downright weird animation produced every day, but seeing it platformed by a major studio, network, or streamer remains rare.

“Adult Swim is definitely like the coolest, most chill, laid-back network to work for,” Joe Cappa tells me. “They have been very, not to say hands-off, but encouraging of artists and encouraging of me. They’ve been patient, and they really trust their artists, and I just can’t imagine this show living anywhere else but Adult Swim.”

### Embracing Wholesomeness in Comedy

When Cappa first started making short videos, he realized he communicated comedy differently. People quickly latched onto the wholesomeness of the characters, something that encouraged him. As he puts it, “This show is leaning into the wholesomeness, I guess, and just kind of embracing it. It’s still tongue-in-cheek, it’s overly sappy, but the characters really are like, genuine people.”

Audiences have become so accustomed to mean-spirited, almost humiliation-based styles of comedy dominating the last decade that whenever *HAHA, You Clowns* zags toward sincerity, the biggest laughs come from how unexpected it is to not take the easy route into cruelty.

“They sort of lack self-awareness, but they don’t really care, you know?” Cappa says of the brother characters, Tristan, Preston, and Duncan. “They could be laughed at, and it probably wouldn’t bother them too much, because all they care about is everybody having a good time and being nice to one another.”

*HAHA, You Clowns* is about three brothers and their dad, finding hilarity in relatability — like family movie nights, leaving your coat at the restaurant, and going on vacation.

### From Shorts to Full-Length Episodes

The original *SMALLS* shorts ran about two minutes, but the new series expands that runtime to 11 minutes. Not every short is meant to be longer than a few minutes, but Cappa had no problem writing longer adventures for these boys.

“Shockingly, it was very easy, and my co-writer on the show is my brother, so we have this sort of shared sense of humor and shared knowledge of our father, of the Midwest, of our brotherly love to each other,” he explains.

He continues, “So I think we kind of feed into that, and I mean, these scripts that we end up writing could be half an hour, and we have to like start trimming because we’re like, ‘Damn, we got to fit all this in 11 minutes.’ I think we could just keep writing and writing these characters. It comes very naturally, and it’s a very fun place to live inside their minds.”

### Midwestern Roots and Real-Life Inspiration

The characterizations are inspired by Cappa’s life in the Midwest and the kind of people he was used to interacting with. As a fellow Midwesterner, I can confirm that the boys are the same brand of corn-fed, farm-strong himbos with necks as thick as their hearts that I knew, too.

“This show and the stuff I make, inherently, is reactionary to the stuff that I see out there, because I haven’t been in a movie theater and laughed in a very, very long time, and it’s very frustrating,” Cappa says. “I find it rewarding to surprise my audience.”

### Redefining Adult Animation

Some people think of “adult animation” as raunchy or violent comedies that happen to be animated. However, adult animation is as diverse and expansive as can be imagined. *HAHA, You Clowns* is an adult animated comedy series that stands out by taking a totally different approach to humor.

“It’s 2025 and like, the world feels very crazy right now,” Cappa correctly recognizes. “It doesn’t hurt to laugh at people trying to be sweet and have a good time, and it’s not mean-spirited. We can all have a good time watching it.”

The writing is packed with one-liners, but plenty of laughs come from moments when the characters aren’t saying anything at all.

“The animatic phase is the most fun phase of creating a show I’ve discovered,” Cappa shares. In one episode, a notable celebrity makes a cameo, and there’s a shot that lingers on their face, underscored with a music cue by Delicate Steve inspired by the guitar riffs of ’90s sitcoms.

“Seeing those together at the same time, I was like, ‘We have to just hold on to [the] face so we can hear the complete sting sustain,’” Cappa says through laughter. It’s a seemingly small decision but one that caused one of the biggest laughs.

This approach also helps *HAHA, You Clowns* resemble a show more like *7th Heaven* than something like *Family Guy*, which is exactly what Cappa was aiming for.

“That’s a big part of the humor, too,” he says. “We would tell our artists that it’s like a live-action director was given an animated show, and they don’t really know how to draw, but they’re trying to execute the thing as best as they can, and that’s sort of like the genre of humor to play.”

*HAHA, You Clowns* feels like the alternate reality of *Full House* if Danny Tanner was raising three boys, or *Home Improvement* if Tim was a widower, balancing its silliness and saccharine center with occasional profundity.

### A Personal Connection

Cappa’s voice is unquestionably present in the show’s characters — literally, as he voices the four main characters himself. He admits there’s a little piece of himself in all of them:

“Duncan is the youngest one, and he wants to impress his brothers. Tristan is the middle one, and I am a middle child. He’s also the one who wants to get into comedy, and that’s kind of his love language. And then there’s Preston, who is the leader and tries to get the thing done and tries to please Dad. He’s like the most in tune with Dad. I don’t know, I guess I’m a little bit of all of them.”

### Heartfelt Humor Set to a ’90s Sitcom Soundtrack

An offbeat comedy about brotherhood, family, and grief, set to a soundtrack that sounds like it was lifted from a forgotten ’90s sitcom—used both sincerely and ironically—*HAHA, You Clowns* manages to toe the line between heartfelt and ridiculous without falling completely into either, which feels like the point.

“In a way, I would say I’m a proud dad,” Cappa says. “And I hope they’re proud of me too.”

If there’s any justice left in animation, more people will realize Cappa is one of the most interesting figures working today. He did such a great job raising those boys that *HAHA, You Clowns* is primed to be Adult Swim’s next classic series.

The full series of *HAHA, You Clowns* debuts on October 19, 2025, at 11:45 pm ET/PT, but the debut episode is currently available on YouTube.

Illegal crossings at U.S.-Mexico border plummet to lowest annual level since 1970

Unlawful crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year 2025 plummeted to the lowest annual level since the early 1970s, amid the Trump administration’s sweeping clampdown on illegal immigration, internal federal statistics obtained by CBS News show.

U.S. Border Patrol agents recorded nearly 238,000 apprehensions of migrants crossing the southern border illegally in fiscal year 2025, which began in October of last year and ended on Sept. 30, according to preliminary Department of Homeland Security data that has not been previously reported.

The number is the lowest annual tally recorded by Border Patrol since fiscal year 1970, when the agency reported roughly 202,000 apprehensions along the U.S.-Mexico border, historical figures indicate.

It also represents a seismic change from the record-high levels of Border Patrol apprehensions recorded under the Biden administration, which faced an unprecedented humanitarian crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. In fiscal year 2022, Border Patrol made 2.2 million apprehensions—a record—and almost 10 times the levels recorded in 2025.

More than 60% of the apprehensions made by Border Patrol in fiscal year 2025 along the U.S.-Mexico border were recorded in the last full three months of the Biden administration, the preliminary data shows. (Government fiscal years start in October and end in September, often spanning different administrations.)

Over President Trump’s first full eight months in office, Border Patrol agents assigned to the southern border have recorded fewer than 9,000 apprehensions each month—a number that the agency recorded in 24-hour periods during some days under former President Joe Biden.

The internal DHS figures show Border Patrol made nearly 8,400 apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border in September 2025, an increase from 6,300 in August and 4,600 in July, which was a monthly record low.

Border Patrol apprehensions denote the number of times agents intercepted and processed migrants entering the country between official ports of entry, which is illegal. Some migrants can be counted multiple times if they attempt to enter the U.S. more than once after being turned back to Mexico.

In a statement, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said, “President Trump has overwhelmingly delivered on his promise to secure our Southern Border. As a result, Americans are safer; unvetted criminal illegal aliens and dangerous drugs are no longer pouring over our border unchecked.”

Jackson added, “And for all the Democrats who claimed it was impossible to secure the border or that they needed new policy, turns out all we needed was a new President. A new normal.”

Ariel Ruiz Soto, an analyst at the Migration Policy Institute—a nonpartisan think tank based in Washington—noted that illegal border crossings began to fall sharply in the summer of 2024, after the Biden administration enacted strict limits on asylum. But he said the Trump administration had set “a new normal” for migration flows in just a few months.

Ruiz Soto explained that the Trump administration’s stringent policies at the border and inside the U.S. “have had a significant effect on people being deterred from coming illegally to the United States.”

Soon after Mr. Trump took office for a second time, his administration moved to seal and militarize the southern border, closing down the American asylum system using emergency powers, dispatching thousands of soldiers to repel illegal crossings, and shutting down Biden-era programs that allowed some migrants to enter the U.S. legally.

While parts of the asylum ban have been curtailed and declared illegal by courts, the Trump administration has virtually ended the practice of releasing migrants who cross into the U.S. illegally, deporting them quickly or holding them in detention while their cases are reviewed.

Beyond the border, the Trump administration has staged highly publicized operations targeting those living in the U.S. illegally, dispatching teams of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents across the country with the objective of overseeing a deportation campaign of unprecedented proportions.

The crackdown has not been without controversy. The administration’s border policies have been denounced as inhumane, draconian, and illegal by groups like the American Civil Liberties Union, which has challenged them in federal court on the grounds that they are at odds with U.S. and international asylum law as well as the Constitution.

The federal immigration raids well beyond the border have also triggered significant backlash, particularly in major American cities like Chicago and Los Angeles, where large-scale protests have erupted.

National and local Democrats have decried the raids as indiscriminate and overly harsh, accusing the Trump administration of not solely focusing on deporting violent offenders.

Citing confrontations and instances of violence, Mr. Trump in recent days has ordered National Guard troops to deploy to Chicago and Portland, Oregon, to protect immigration agents and facilities there. A federal judge has so far blocked the plan to send National Guard units to Portland.

Amid the national debate over immigration enforcement, those living along the southern border say there’s no denying the reality on the ground has changed markedly.

John Martin said his network of shelters in the Texas border city of El Paso housed hundreds of migrants during spikes in illegal crossings under the Biden administration. On Monday, he said his organization was not housing a single migrant, stating he has received “little to no” new arrivals who are not local homeless residents in recent months.

He attributed this change to Mr. Trump’s crackdown.

“If the goal is to decrease the number of individuals, I would say that appears to have been successful, without getting into the politics about whether or not I like it or dislike it,” Martin said. “We’re just simply not seeing the people.”
