New Mexico man allegedly kills mother, stores dismembered remains in home freezer for weeks: Report

An Albuquerque, New Mexico man has been arrested on charges of allegedly killing and dismembering his mother before placing her remains in a freezer, according to reports.

Court records show 49-year-old Leroy Vallejos was booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center on Wednesday. He faces charges including first-degree murder, battery, battery of a household member, and tampering with evidence. Vallejos is currently being held under preventative detention.

The Albuquerque Police Department reported that Vallejos admitted to choking his 69-year-old mother, Ernestina Lucero, to death nearly three weeks ago, KRQE Albuquerque reported. Police further revealed that Vallejos claimed his mother was part of a “group of people giving their lives to darkness” who were conspiring against him.

Officers conducted a welfare check at Lucero’s home last Tuesday after Vallejos informed a healthcare company that his mother had been missing for about a week. He had contacted the company to request payment for her care despite not having seen her recently. During the welfare check, Vallejos allowed officers inside and told them his mother had gone to Mexico. However, officers found Lucero’s prescriptions still in her bedroom.

One officer reportedly found garbage bags inside a large freezer, which were later determined to contain the remains of a female, according to the station. This discovery prompted a more thorough search of the home, where officers found a saw with what appeared to be dried blood stains under a sink.

Prior to the welfare check, another family member had reported Lucero missing, leading the police department to issue a missing person bulletin on October 23 and begin an investigation. Preliminary findings indicated that Vallejos had allegedly withdrawn money from his mother’s bank account, and her vehicle had been sold before she was reported missing.

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A man suspected of stealing packages from porches in Mobile, Alabama, and Mississippi has been arrested, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

Deputies reported that at around 1 a.m. on Friday, they observed a black Ford Escape driving at a high rate of speed near the Boe Road extension and Spanish Trail. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver—identified as Todd Anthony Bond—was found with several packages in the car. These packages matched descriptions of items recently stolen from other residents’ properties.

Bond, a 46-year-old resident of Jackson, Mississippi, was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property.

**Woman Arrested Six Years After Fatal Stabbing in Southeast Albuquerque**

A woman is behind bars six years after she allegedly stabbed a man to death at a home in Southeast Albuquerque.

Antionette Hernandez, 29, was arrested Thursday and charged with an open count of murder and criminal trespass in the 2019 killing of 38-year-old Eric Lewis. Hernandez does not yet have an attorney.

Lewis’ stabbing went unsolved for six years after the detective on the case was promoted to sergeant, according to court records. The case was later assigned to an investigator for review before being transferred to a homicide detective in April 2025.

Prosecutors filed a motion on Friday to keep Hernandez behind bars until trial, citing that she “exhibited violent and dangerous behavior that threatens the safety of the community.”

“The Court will be unable to ensure that the Defendant is not possessing knives, and not threatening, or hurting more innocent people,” the motion states.

Police were conducting a patrol on September 27, 2019, of condemned houses in Southeast Albuquerque to ensure that no one was living inside them, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court. Around 11:30 a.m., officers entered a condemned home in the 400 block of Utah SE, south of Zuni, and noticed “a wad of hair on the floor and a strange smell,” the complaint says.

Officers saw bloody shoe prints throughout the kitchen floor and found Lewis’ body. An autopsy later determined that Lewis had been fatally stabbed.

The investigation remained cold until recent developments led to Hernandez’s arrest.

Giants get dominated in all phases as they drop to 2-7 with a 34-24 loss to 49ers

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Brian Daboll loves to talk about playing complementary football. What his New York Giants did on Sunday was the polar opposite.

Mistakes on offense, defense, and special teams doomed the Giants in a 34-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers that was not as close as the score indicated. The game was played in front of a crowd that sounded more like it was in the Bay Area than the Meadowlands.

“I’ve never played in a home game that was lopsided in that department,” rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart said. “But they have a big fan base.”

Drops plagued the Giants early as Theo Johnson and Wan’Dale Robinson failed to secure passes thrown right at them by Dart. On defense, Christian McCaffrey was left wide open for one of the easiest touchdowns of his career. McCaffrey and Brian Robinson Jr. dominated the field all afternoon, carving through would-be tacklers repeatedly.

Adding to the Giants’ woes, kicker Graham Gano missed a field goal attempt wide left in the final minute of the first half. Later, special teams miscues continued when Zaire Barnes collided with returner Gunner Olszewski on a punt in the third quarter.

“We have to keep believing that we will win,” Dart said. “It’s not fun to lose. We missed out on certain phases of playing complementary football. You have to win at least two of those areas, and we didn’t.”

The loss marked New York’s third consecutive defeat, dropping their record to 2-7 this season with the NFL trade deadline looming Tuesday. Frustration within the fan base was evident, with a plane circling the stadium carrying a banner that read, “Mr. Mara enough is enough clean house.” Another banner wished owner John Mara well in his fight against cancer.

“Look,” Daboll said, “we’re not where we need to be.”

Injury troubles piled up as well. Starting center John Michael Schmitz, inside linebacker Darius Muasau, and rookie receiver Beaux Collins all left the game. The Giants were already missing their top two cornerbacks, Paulson Adebo and Cor’Dale Flott, as well as starting free safety Jevon Holland. Despite the struggles, Dart and the energy he has brought are sources of long-term optimism. He showed flashes of promise against San Francisco, completing three of four passes with a touchdown to Theo Johnson on the opening drive — which was the high point of the game. The 49ers responded immediately, scoring on their first possession and dominating the rest of the contest.

The Giants have allowed at least 33 points in each of their past three games during this skid.

“Nothing was good enough,” Daboll said, defending his decision to kick a field goal instead of going for it on fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line — a choice that drew boos from the home crowd. “We have to keep working on our tackling. Whether it’s finishing tackles or finishing catches, we have to do better.”

Dart and Daboll have worked closely together since the Giants traded back into the first round to draft the Mississippi product as their future at football’s most important position.

When asked about pressure for a coaching change, Dart deferred. “I can only control what I can control,” he said. “As a team, we should be thinking the same way.”

Nectar Triantis makes immediate impact for Minnesota United

During the summer transfer window, Minnesota United’s front office leaders faced the challenge of convincing 22-year-old Australian midfielder Nectar Triantis that moving to MLS was the right step for his budding career. Triantis was already playing in Europe—a favored continent among players—albeit in a lower-level league. In a strategic move, Triantis, who is of Greek descent, requested and received FIFA approval to switch his international allegiance to Greece, should he receive a call-up.

The sales pitch from Loons Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad proved successful. With a $722,665 salary that ranks eighth highest on the roster, Triantis joined Minnesota as an Under-22 Initiative signing on a four-and-a-half-year contract. He has since made a strong impact.

Minnesota won Game 1, and the best-of-three series now shifts to Seattle for Game 2, scheduled for 9:45 p.m. CST Monday at Lumen Field. For Triantis, this string of games should put him firmly on the radar for the Greece senior national team and underscores his self-belief in reaching the highest levels of his career.

“He’s got a real point to prove,” Ramsay said. “He’s not come here to stand still in any way. He really wants to progress. And he’s obviously got characteristics that really help us.”

Standing 6-foot-3, Ramsay described Triantis as “a bit of a destroyer in the middle,” but also a player who is composed on the ball, capable of dribbling around opponents and delivering line-breaking passes.

In Game 1 against Seattle, the Loons spent long periods defending in a low block. When regaining possession, they needed players strong enough to handle the ball in critical moments.

“You can just see his personality and desire to want to help the team win,” said midfield teammate Wil Trapp. “I think it’s been really impressive from the beginning. You always want guys to come in and do it in a way that feels like they have confidence, that they can affect the game. I think he has done that in spades from the beginning. It’s been really fun.”

Triantis previously spent two seasons on loan at Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, from Sunderland, which was promoted to the English Premier League this season. The Loons paid a $2.5 million transfer fee to Southampton to bring Triantis to MLS—an investment that is already proving to be a bargain.

In addition to his defensive and connecting roles, Triantis has demonstrated goal-scoring ability. He scored from the halfway line in his Loons debut against San Diego in September and added another long-range goal two weeks later against Colorado.

During Game 1 versus Seattle, Triantis took several dangerous shots and confidently stepped up to the penalty-kick spot, scoring a PK inside the left post during the Loons’ 3-2 shootout victory.

Loons assistant coach Cam Knowles, who organizes the PK lineup, showed confidence in Triantis by placing him second behind top taker Kelvin Yeboah.

When asked if he was nervous, Triantis replied, “Not really.”
