‘Impossibly difficult’: Louis on coming to terms with Liam’s death

**‘Impossibly Difficult’: Louis Tomlinson on Coming to Terms with Liam Payne’s Death**

*By Apoorva Rastogi | October 8, 2025*

Former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson recently opened up about the “impossibly difficult” experience of coming to terms with the death of his bandmate, Liam Payne.

In a candid interview with Rolling Stone UK, Louis reflected on the emotional weight of the 15th anniversary of their time together. He said, “It was really uncomfortable, actually, the 15th anniversary. Because the [collective] feeling to celebrate is as important, if not more important, than ever, on behalf of Liam.”

### Emotional Struggle

Louis shared his raw feelings about the loss, revealing, “You know, there’s still a level in my head [where it feels] unjust and frustrating that he’s not with us anymore.”

He added, “It was really, really, impossibly difficult for me to deal with losing Liam. Naively, I thought that because at this point I’m relatively well-versed in grief for my age, that it might soften the blow. It’s very different. I’ve never lost a friend before.”

### A Tribute to Liam Payne

Tomlinson fondly remembered Liam, describing him as the “safest pair of hands” in One Direction. “We were all just so amateur, but he was already where he needed to be by the time he did his first [X Factor] audition,” Louis said. “None of us would have admitted it at the time because you have a lot of pride as a young lad but we all looked up to him like that.”

### Details Surrounding Liam’s Death

Liam Payne reportedly died after falling from the third floor of his Buenos Aires hotel. According to reports, the hotel staff had called the police after noticing a guest who appeared to be under the “influence of drugs and alcohol.”

An autopsy later confirmed Liam was intoxicated at the time and suggested he may have jumped while semi or fully unconscious.

Louis Tomlinson’s heartfelt reflections offer a glimpse into the profound grief of losing a close friend and bandmate, underscoring the lasting impact Liam had on those around him.

Pune: Over 10 Lakh Vehicles Fined For Illegal Parking In 3 Years; ₹70.26 Crore Collected In Penalties

Parking Space Crisis in Pune Escalates Amid Rising Vehicle Registrations

Pune is witnessing an escalating challenge when it comes to parking, as the number of registered vehicles under the Pune City RTO has surpassed 40 lakh. Despite this surge, the administration has yet to provide effective alternative solutions for parking spaces, resulting in severe traffic jams and continuous congestion on key roads across the city.

‘No Parking’ Violations Reach Record High

According to data shared by the Traffic Department, ‘No Parking’ violations have crossed a staggering 10.76 lakh cases between 2023 and October 7, 2025. This alarming figure underscores the ongoing struggle with vehicular congestion and the lack of adequate parking infrastructure.

₹70.26 Crore Collected in Fines from Offenders

The Pune City Traffic Police have generated an impressive ₹70.26 crore in fines from violators during this period. This highlights the persistent challenge faced by traffic authorities in managing parking violations effectively.

Breaking down the data:

  • In 2023, 3,11,895 vehicles were fined, generating ₹18.05 crore in fines.
  • In 2024, violations increased to 3,68,857, with fines amounting to ₹23.81 crore.
  • In just the first nine months of 2025, 3,95,513 violators were fined, collecting ₹28.39 crore—surpassing all previous years.

Crackdown on Illegal Parking Zones

Manoj Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), spoke to The Free Press Journal about the ongoing efforts to address the issue. “These vehicles have been penalised for parking in no-parking spaces and causing severe traffic jams on particular roads. Many times, people park their vehicles in no-parking zones because they are in a hurry. Vehicle owners need to understand that violating traffic norms is unacceptable, and vehicles should be parked only at designated places.”

Patil added, “We are cracking down on illegal parking zones across major areas like FC Road, JM Road, and Koregaon Park. Awareness drives are also being conducted.”

Residents Cite Poor Urban Planning and Lack of Discipline

Local residents and commuters believe the situation is a reflection of both inadequate urban planning and a lack of discipline among vehicle owners.

Sagar Bansode, a resident of Swargate, shared, “Finding a legal parking spot in central Pune is almost impossible. People are forced to park on the roadside even when they don’t want to.”

Amit Vibhute from Rasta Peth added, “The fines keep increasing, but there is hardly any solution in sight. The administration needs to create more designated parking spaces, not just penalise citizens. In the Rasta Peth area, many shops dealing in used vehicles have openly parked the used vehicles on the footpath. But police avoid fining them because they pay a minimal amount to the officers per month.”

The Road Ahead

As Pune grapples with rising vehicle numbers and shrinking parking options, the need for sustainable urban planning, stricter enforcement, and public cooperation has never been greater. Without a coordinated approach involving authorities and citizens alike, the city’s traffic woes and parking crisis are likely to worsen further.

Uttar Pradesh: SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav Meets Azam Khan In Rampur After Jail Release, Dismisses Speculation On Party Switch; Video

Rampur: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday met veteran party leader Azam Khan at his residence here. This marked the first meeting between the two leaders following Khan’s recent release from the Sitapur jail.

Yadav traveled from Lucknow to Bareilly airport and then proceeded to Rampur by helicopter. The chopper landed at the Maulana Jauhar University campus helipad, where Khan personally received Yadav, officials said.

Ahead of the visit, Khan had told the media on Tuesday that he would meet only Akhilesh Yadav and no one else. When asked about Rampur SP MP Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi, Khan stated that he did not know him and would not be meeting him. “There is no programme. Akhilesh Yadav will meet me, and I will meet only him,” Khan emphasized. Notably, SP MP Nadvi was not seen accompanying Yadav during his visit to Rampur.

Speculation has been rife about Azam Khan potentially joining the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). However, the senior SP leader dismissed these claims. As a founding member of the SP, Khan earlier remarked, “We have something called character. Character does not mean whether we hold a post or not; it means people love and respect us. And we are not for sale, we have proved that.”

A ten-time MLA from Rampur, Khan faces several criminal charges, including allegations of land grabbing and corruption, which he claims are politically motivated. His recent release from jail came after the Allahabad High Court granted him bail last week in the Quality Bar land encroachment case. His name was added to this case during a reinvestigation nearly five years after the FIR was initially filed.

Earlier, Yadav had vowed that all “false” cases against Khan would be withdrawn once the SP returns to power in Uttar Pradesh, stating that Khan has “finally got justice.”

Currently, the Samajwadi Party holds 37 MPs and 107 MLAs, including 34 Muslim MLAs and four Muslim MPs in the Uttar Pradesh assembly.

Supreme Court To Hear TVK Party Plea On Karur Stampede Probe, Seeks Independent Investigation

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on Friday a plea filed by the actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), through its General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna. The plea seeks an impartial investigation into the Karur stampede, calling for a probe conducted by a panel led by a retired top-court judge.

The plea, filed through advocates Dixita Gohil, Pranjal Agarwal, and Yash S Vijay, challenges the Madras High Court’s October 3 order that constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the tragic stampede. The SIT is headed by the Inspector General of Police and comprises senior officers from the Tamil Nadu Police.

TVK’s plea contends that despite the High Court’s clear doubts about the independence of the police probe, the Court still directed that the SIT be formed solely with state police officers. The petition states, “The Petitioner-party as well as its leaders are prejudiced by the order which appoints an SIT composed solely of officers of the State Police, especially in the face of the observations of the Hon’ble High Court expressing its dissatisfaction with the independence of State Police and its conduct, and prejudicial factual findings against the Petitioner.”

The plea further argues that the possibility of a pre-planned conspiracy by certain miscreants to create trouble at the rally site cannot be ruled out. Therefore, an independent investigation where all contesting facts can be examined is necessary.

Additionally, the plea raises concerns over certain strong observations made by the High Court against TVK, which it claims have caused severe prejudice to the party and its office-bearers. It argues that the High Court’s observations and directions were made in violation of the principles of natural justice and fair trial, without conducting any factual inquiry, verifying evidence, or providing TVK or its officials a chance to be heard.

Specifically, the plea challenges the High Court’s observation condemning TVK’s leadership for allegedly “fleeing from the scene of occurrence” and failing to provide assistance to the public. According to the plea, these claims are factually incorrect, misleading, and contradictory to the actual record.

“The contemporaneous sequence of events clearly establishes that, upon receiving information that certain individuals had fainted during the event, the Petitioner’s leadership and Party cadre took immediate and coordinated steps to ensure medical aid and relief were provided without delay,” the plea asserts.

On October 3, the Madras High Court ordered the constitution of the SIT headed by the Inspector General of Police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the stampede that claimed 41 lives and left many injured. The Court also banned political rallies, roadshows, and similar public events along state and national highways in Tamil Nadu until Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are formulated.

The High Court strongly criticised TVK party workers for allegedly failing to rescue the public left stranded during the incident and questioned the State government’s lenient approach towards holding the event organisers accountable.

Kerala Bans All Sresan Pharmaceuticals Medicines From Sale Following Tamil Nadu License Cancellation

Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram): Health Minister Veena George has announced a ban on all medicines manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceuticals, a company based in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. This decision follows the cancellation of the company’s manufacturing license by the Tamil Nadu Drugs Controller. Consequently, these medicines are prohibited from distribution and sale within Kerala.

In a related development, the Gujarat Drugs Controller reported that Respifresh TR syrup (60ml, Batch No. R01GL2523), produced by Rednex Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad, failed to meet required quality standards. In response, the Kerala Drugs Control Department has immediately halted the distribution and sale of this medicine throughout the state. The syrup had been distributed by five suppliers in Kerala, all of whom have now been instructed to stop its distribution. Strict action will be taken against anyone found selling the drug illegally.

The public has been advised not to use this medicine if they currently possess it. The Health Minister clarified that these banned medicines are not supplied through government hospitals. Additionally, strict action will be taken against establishments that provide this medicine to children under 12 years of age without a prescription from a registered doctor.

Earlier, following the death of at least 14 children after consuming Coldrif syrup in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara, the Kerala government constituted a committee to submit a report on the management of pediatric cough syrups. On Tuesday, Kerala Health Minister Veena George stated that the State Drugs Controller has imposed a ban on the specific cough syrup Coldrif, and the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL) does not supply this syrup to government hospitals.

Speaking to ANI, Minister Veena George said, “It’s unfortunate that 16 children died after consuming the cough syrup Coldrif. The Government of India has issued an advisory regarding the consumption of cough syrup. In Kerala, the Drugs Controller has issued a notification banning the sale of this particular cough syrup Coldrif in all pharmacies across the state.”

She further emphasized, “ColdRif is not included in our essential drugs list. It is not provided by KMSCL, which supplies medicines to government hospitals. However, we are ensuring that the sale of this syrup is completely stopped in private hospitals and pharmacies.”

The Minister noted that the committee on pediatric cough syrups will soon submit its report to the Kerala Government. “We have previously taken similar strict enforcement actions regarding antibiotics within the state. This committee specifically focuses on the management of pediatric cough, ensuring irrelevant combinations are not present in syrups. We plan to issue comprehensive guidelines concerning pediatric cough management, which is crucial,” she explained.

Minister Veena George also raised concerns about medical prescriptions saying, “Doctors have been prescribing cough syrups to children under the age of two years, which is neither advisable nor scientific. We do have protocols in place prohibiting cough syrup administration to children under two.”

She added, “This incident highlights the disregard for these protocols. The Kerala Health Department has instructed the Drugs Controller to issue notices to pharmacies prohibiting the sale of pediatric drugs without a doctor’s prescription.”

The Kerala government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of children by strictly regulating the distribution and sale of pediatric medicines across the state.

Pakistan: At Least 19 TTP Militants, 11 Soldiers Killed Intelligence Based Operation In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

**Peshawar:** At least 19 militants of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group were killed in a clash with the Pakistan military in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Orakzai district on Wednesday, October 8. The area borders Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, 11 Pakistani soldiers also lost their lives during the intelligence-based operation against terrorists belonging to “Fitna al-Khawarij.” According to a statement by the military’s media wing, among the deceased soldiers were a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major.

The names of the fallen soldiers have been disclosed as follows: Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Arif, Major Tayyab Rahat, Naib Subedar Azam Gul, Havildar Adil Hussain, Naik Gul Ameer, Lance Naik Talish Faraz, Lance Naik Sher Khan, Lance Naik Irshad Hussain, Sepoy Tufail, Sepoy Muhammad Zahid, and Sepoy Aqib Ali.

A sanitisation operation is currently underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area, the military statement added.

In a related development, some reports claimed that 11 Pakistan security personnel were killed in an ambush by the TTP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district on the same day. According to these reports, a convoy of paramilitary soldiers was first targeted by bombs, followed by intense gunfire from a large number of terrorists.

The TTP, in a statement to Reuters, confirmed that their fighters attacked the convoy.

Over the past few years, Pakistan has experienced a surge in militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after the banned TTP called off its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the worst-hit region in the country during the third quarter of 2025. According to the latest statistics issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) and reported by PTI, the region suffered nearly 71 percent (638) of the total violence-linked fatalities and over 67 percent (221) of the incidents of violence nationwide.
