Unhappy over ruling, man hurls shoe at sessions court judge in Ahmedabad
A man hurled a shoe at a judge in the Ahmedabad sessions court on Tuesday during ongoing proceedings, according to a police official. It remains unclear whether the shoe hit the additional principal judge.
The incident occurred after the man’s appeal was dismissed. The individual, who was an appellant in the case, became angry and threw the shoe at the judge. Court staff intervened and caught him immediately.
Inspector PH Bhati of the city’s Karanj police station stated that, following the judge’s instructions, no coercive action was taken against the man. “The judge let him go and instructed the staff that no action should be taken against him,” Bhati said.

Court remands 2 more accused in Durgapur `gangrape` case to nine day custody
A local court in West Bengal on Monday remanded two men to police custody for nine days in connection with the alleged gangrape of a medical student in Paschim Bardhaman district. Earlier, three other accused were remanded to 10-day police custody on Sunday.
The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) in Durgapur ordered the nine-day custody for the two men following a request from the prosecution. The prosecution alleged their direct involvement in the case alongside the previously arrested three accused and sought custody for questioning and further investigation.
The medical student, who hails from Odisha, was allegedly gangraped outside the campus of a private medical college in Durgapur on Friday night. The incident occurred when she had gone out for dinner with a friend.
Her parents subsequently lodged an FIR with the New Township police station.
All five accused are scheduled to be produced before the court on the next hearing date.

Telangana Police seizes 499 kgs of ganja, held two
A total of 499 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.5 crore, being transported to Rajasthan in a container lorry, was seized in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana on Monday. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case, police said.
Based on credible information, police teams conducted vehicle checks in Sujathanagar Mandal and intercepted the lorry. Upon inspection, they recovered 96 packets of ganja, Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B Rohit Raju said.
The contraband was loaded in Andhra Pradesh and was being transported to Jaipur in Rajasthan, the official added. A case has been registered against four accused individuals.
The prime accused, a 37-year-old man who assisted in transporting the ganja, and the lorry’s owner-cum-driver have been arrested. Two others — one who arranged the transportation and another involved in selling the ganja — are currently absconding, police said.
Further investigation is underway.

Heavy rain in Mexico sets off floods and landslides, killing at least 41
Some people in the low-lying working-class neighbourhoods of Poza Rica heard the wall of water before they saw it. The loudest sound came from cars crashing together as they were swept along by the water that had escaped from the banks of the Cazones River, flooding the streets with more than 12 feet (4 meters) of water at dawn on Friday.
By Saturday, much of the water had receded. What was left behind was pure destruction and the sometimes head-scratching combinations that occur when nature collides with man-made structures—like cars hung in treetops and even a dead horse wedged inside the cabin of a pickup truck.
The death toll from landslides and floods caused by incessant rainfall in central and southeastern Mexico rose to 41 people on Saturday, authorities reported. This sharp increase came as thousands of soldiers cleared blocked roads to rescue those missing.
In Veracruz state, where Poza Rica is located, some 540 millimetres (more than 21 inches) of rain fell from October 6 to 9. Poza Rica, an oil town 170 miles (275 km) northeast of Mexico City, experienced little warning before the water arrived. Some neighbours said they sensed danger a couple of hours earlier and grabbed a few belongings before abandoning their homes.
Shadack Azuara, 27, came in search of his uncle around 3 a.m. on Friday. Getting no answer when he knocked, he assumed his uncle had already fled with others, so he returned home to prepare himself. On Saturday, having still heard nothing of his uncle—a retiree from oil services work who collected newspapers and bottles for recycling—Azuara found his uncle shirtless and facedown in the murky water surrounding his bed, apparently drowned. He spent hours calling authorities, trying to get someone to pick up the body.
“We thought he had gone, that he had evacuated with all of those who left,” Azuara said.
Mexico’s National Coordination of Civil Protection reported that as of Saturday, the heavy rains had killed 16 people in the state of Hidalgo, north of Mexico City, and cut power to 150 communities there. At least nine people died in the state of Puebla, east of Mexico City, where over 16,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.
In Veracruz, there were also 15 deaths. The army and navy were helping rescue residents from 42 communities isolated by landslides on roads and flooded streams. Authorities said they were searching for 27 missing people across the region.
As night fell in Poza Rica, heavy equipment rumbled through dark, muddy streets. There was no electricity and little presence from the National Guard or army, but locals did what they could to begin cleaning out their homes and businesses.
Across the Gulf Coast’s 55 municipalities, another 16,000 homes were damaged. Earlier, in the central state of Queretaro, a child died after being caught in a landslide.
Across the country, over 320,000 users experienced power outages caused by the heavy rains, authorities said.
Officials have attributed the deadly downpours to Tropical Storm Priscilla, formerly a hurricane, and Tropical Storm Raymond, both off the western coast of Mexico.

Power restored to 800,000 in Kyiv after major Russian strikes in Ukraine
Russian drone and missile strikes wounded at least 20 people in Kyiv early Friday. The attacks damaged residential buildings and triggered blackouts across swaths of Ukraine. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko described the strikes as “one of the largest concentrated strikes” against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Russia’s Defence Ministry stated on Friday that the strikes targeted energy facilities supplying Ukraine’s military. Although it did not provide specific details about the facilities, it confirmed that Russian forces used Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and strike drones in the attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that he had a “very positive and productive” phone call with US President Donald Trump. “There needs to be readiness on the Russian side to engage in real diplomacy. This can be achieved through strength,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The statement added that they aimed to undertake this “in close cooperation with the United States.”

Hairstylist Jawed Habib, his son booked in Rs 7 crore fraud case
Hairstylist Jawed Habib and his son Anos Habib have been booked in 23 fraud cases for allegedly swindling Rs 7 crore from people through an investment scheme, police said on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi revealed that the two operated a scheme under the banner of FLC Company, promising investors annual returns of 50-70 percent on Bitcoin purchases. They collected around Rs 5-7 lakh from each investor, claiming these investments would yield high returns.
However, even after two and a half years, none of the investors have received their money back, Vishnoi added. Investigators have so far identified 38 people who were defrauded through this scheme.
To date, 23 FIRs have been filed against Jawed Habib, his son Anos Habib, and their associate Saiful. The scam appears to have been run like an organized gang, according to police officials.
Authorities have also issued a lookout notice against the duo as the investigation continues.
