Bar Council of India suspends advocate who tried to hurl shoe at CJI Gavai

The Bar Council of India (BCI) on Monday suspended the practice of Advocate Rakesh Kishore, a 71-year-old lawyer who allegedly attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai during court proceedings. The council has also initiated disciplinary proceedings against him, news agency PTI reported.

In a shocking breach of decorum, Kishore reportedly approached the dais during a hearing and tried to throw a shoe at the CJI, but was promptly stopped by security personnel.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) has strongly condemned the incident in a unanimous resolution, according to PTI. Headed by Vipin Nair, the association described Kishore’s act as a “disrespectful and intemperate gesture” by an advocate.

In a statement, SCAORA secretary Nikhil Jain urged the Supreme Court to “take suo motu cognizance of the said conduct and initiate appropriate proceedings for contempt of court, as the act/gesture is a calculated move to scandalise the authority of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and lower its dignity in the eyes of the public.”

The association emphasised that freedom of speech carries a duty of restraint, particularly for members of the legal profession, who are officers of the court.

It expressed “deep anguish and disapproval at the recent act of an advocate who, by his unwarranted and intemperate gesture, sought to disrespect the office and authority of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India and his companion Judges.”

According to SCAORA, such conduct is unbecoming of a member of the Bar and undermines the mutual respect between the “Bench and the Bar.” The body added that this behaviour is antithetical to the dignity of the legal profession and contrary to constitutional values of decorum, discipline, and institutional integrity.

“Any attempt to malign or a personalised act/gesture aimed against a sitting judge of the Hon’ble Supreme Court constitutes a direct assault on the independence of the judiciary and undermines public faith in the justice delivery system,” SCAORA stated.

The association condemned the incident as a “cowardly and disrespectful act” and affirmed its complete solidarity with the CJI and the entire judiciary in upholding the majesty, independence, and impartiality of the Supreme Court.

Overrated places in Germany you can skip

**Overrated Places in Germany You Can Skip**
*By Anujj Trehaan | Oct 06, 2025, 03:48 PM*

Germany is dotted with several destinations that are often touted as must-visits, but not all of them live up to the hype. While some places are packed with history and culture, others may leave you wanting more. Here, we take a look at some of the overrated spots in Germany that may not offer the best experience for travelers seeking authenticity or uniqueness.

### 1. Neuschwanstein Castle: A Tourist Trap
Although Neuschwanstein Castle is often dubbed the fairytale castle, it is usually packed with tourists and expensive to visit. The crowds can make it hard to enjoy the surroundings, and the entry fees can be steep. Plus, the castle’s interior is not as impressive as its exterior.

If you are looking for a more peaceful experience, you may want to skip this popular spot and explore lesser-known castles in Germany instead.

### 2. Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate: More Than Meets the Eye
The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin is an iconic symbol of Germany’s history, but it can be a bit underwhelming in real life. The area around it is usually crowded with tourists, making it hard to appreciate its historical significance.

While it is still worth a visit for its cultural importance, travelers may find other sites in Berlin more rewarding without the throngs of people.

### 3. Oktoberfest: Beyond Beer Tents
Oktoberfest is famous for its festivities, but it has become more of a commercial event than a cultural one. The festival is crowded and expensive, with prices for food and beverages soaring during this time.

Those looking for an authentic experience may be better off visiting smaller local festivals that offer traditional music and dance without the overwhelming crowds.

### 4. Rhine Valley Cruises: Scenic But Costly
Cruises through the Rhine Valley are often marketed as scenic adventures, but they can be quite expensive for what they offer. While you do get to see beautiful vineyards and quaint towns along the way, many travelers feel that exploring these areas by land provides a more immersive experience at a fraction of the cost.

Consider taking day trips instead of committing to an expensive cruise to make the most of your visit.

If you’re planning a trip to Germany, it might be worth reconsidering these popular spots to enjoy more authentic and budget-friendly experiences.

Production milestone! Ather Energy rolls out its 5,00,000th electric scooter

**Production Milestone! Ather Energy Rolls Out Its 500,000th Electric Scooter**

*By Akash Pandey | Oct 06, 2025, 04:37 PM*

Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ather Energy has reached a significant milestone by rolling out its 500,000th electric scooter from its manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The landmark unit is the company’s latest family-focused model, the Rizta, which has rapidly become one of Ather’s strongest growth drivers since its launch last year.

### Journey from Niche to Full-Range EV Manufacturer

Over the years, Ather has evolved from a niche performance EV brand into a full-range manufacturer catering to both family riders and enthusiasts. The company has aggressively expanded across middle and northern India, entering several tier-2 and tier-3 cities. This expansion aligns with Ather’s goal of making its growing product lineup and charging infrastructure more accessible to a wider audience.

### Expansion of Manufacturing Capabilities

Currently, Ather operates two facilities in Hosur: one dedicated to vehicle assembly and another focused on battery production. Together, these facilities have a combined capacity of 420,000 scooters per year. To meet the rising demand for its electric scooters, Ather is establishing a third facility, Factory 3.0, located in Bidkin, Maharashtra.

The new facility will be developed in two phases implementing Industry 4.0 principles. Once fully operational, Ather’s total manufacturing capacity will increase to 1.42 million (14.2 lakh) electric two-wheelers per year.

### Commitment to Quality and Reliability

Commenting on this milestone, Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, described crossing the half-million mark as a major achievement. He highlighted that the company’s journey has been focused not only on building vehicles but also on establishing a scalable and reliable manufacturing ecosystem.

Jain credited years of dedicated engineering, rigorous testing, and meticulous attention to quality at every stage of production as key factors underpinning Ather’s continued success.

Ather Energy’s recent milestone underscores its growing influence in India’s electric mobility space and its commitment to innovation, quality, and accessibility. The company is poised for further growth as it expands its product portfolio and manufacturing footprint.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has entered into a multi-year agreement to supply artificial intelligence (AI) chips to OpenAI, marking a significant milestone for both companies. This landmark deal is expected to generate tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue for AMD and offers OpenAI an option to acquire up to a 10% stake in the chipmaker.

The partnership serves as a strong endorsement of AMD’s AI chips and software capabilities and aligns with the company’s strategic efforts to deepen its presence in the fast-expanding AI market.

**Market Reaction: Shares Surge 25%**

Following the announcement, AMD shares jumped 25% in premarket trading. Forrest Norrod, AMD’s Executive Vice President, described the deal as “certainly transformative, not just for AMD, but for the dynamics of the industry,” highlighting its potential to reshape the AI chip landscape.

The agreement involves deploying hundreds of thousands of AMD AI chips and graphics processing units (GPUs), representing a capacity of six gigawatts over several years beginning in the second half of 2026.

**OpenAI to Establish 1-Gigawatt Facility Using AMD Chips**

A key component of the deal includes OpenAI’s plan to establish a one-gigawatt facility powered by AMD’s next-generation MI450 series chips starting next year. This facility is expected to kickstart revenue generation for AMD shortly thereafter.

AMD anticipates that this partnership, combined with ripple effects from other customers, could bring in more than $100 billion in new revenue over the next four years.

**Context and Industry Impact**

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed confidence that the collaboration with AMD will help the organization build sufficient AI infrastructure to support its ambitious projects.

This development follows NVIDIA’s announcement to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI and supply at least 10 gigawatts of its systems. Meanwhile, OpenAI continues to work on developing its own AI-specific silicon in partnership with Broadcom, underscoring its multi-faceted approach to building robust AI hardware capabilities.

This deal marks a pivotal moment in the AI hardware sector, emphasizing AMD’s growing influence and OpenAI’s commitment to scaling its AI infrastructure through diverse strategic partnerships.

Hikaru Nakamura’s gesture after defeating Gukesh sparks debate: Details here

**Hikaru Nakamura’s Gesture After Defeating Gukesh Sparks Debate**

*By Gaurav Tripathi | October 06, 2025, 2:08 PM*

**What’s the Story?**

Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh’s defeat against Hikaru Nakamura at the ‘Checkmate: USA vs India’ exhibition event has sparked a major controversy. After winning the final game, Nakamura threw Gukesh’s king piece into the crowd—a gesture many deemed disrespectful both to the game of chess and to Gukesh himself. However, others defended the act as a refreshing and entertaining break from chess’s traditionally reserved image.

**Event Details**

It’s important to note that the ‘Checkmate: USA vs India’ event was not a FIDE-sanctioned tournament, but rather an exhibition designed to attract new audiences through quirky adaptations to the traditional chess format. Unlike standard chess matches, players were introduced with WWE-style announcements and encouraged to cheer or jeer before a live audience, breaking the customary silence typically observed during competitive chess.

**Pre-Planned Celebration**

Nakamura’s controversial move was not spontaneous but part of a pre-planned celebration agreed upon before the match. Organizers discussed the celebratory gesture with all participants and encouraged them to express themselves candidly. YouTuber Levy Rozman, who also took part in the exhibition by defeating ChessBase India’s Sagar Shah, revealed that Nakamura’s action was in line with what the organizers requested. Nakamura even explained his intent privately to Gukesh afterward.

**Community Response**

The chess community’s reactions were mixed. Chess streamer Jules Gambit, a co-host of the event, defended Nakamura on social media, emphasizing that all players were instructed to have fun after a win. She argued it is unfair to judge Nakamura’s gesture by traditional chess standards given the experimental nature of the event.

Despite some backlash, notable chess figures, including Dutch Grandmaster Anish Giri, publicly supported Nakamura’s decision, seeing it as a lighthearted and creative aspect of this unconventional exhibition.

**Rivalries Reignited**

However, the incident reignited old rivalries and tensions. Former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik criticized Nakamura’s celebration, labeling it a “degradation” of the sport. FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky also condemned Nakamura’s actions, accusing him of disrespecting the world champion’s title. Event organizers responded to these criticisms by highlighting the nature and spirit of the exhibition.

**Conclusion**

While the gesture stirred controversy, many players and fans sympathized with Nakamura’s intent, understanding that it was meant purely for entertainment and to challenge traditional perceptions of chess.

After winning the final game, Nakamura threw Gukesh’s king piece into the audience—a gesture many considered disrespectful to both the game of chess and Gukesh himself.

However, others defended the move as a fun and entertaining break from the traditional, often perceived “boring” image of chess.

**Event Details**

It’s important to note that the ‘Checkmate: USA vs India’ event was not a FIDE-recognized tournament but an exhibition match designed to attract new audiences. To differentiate it from regular tournaments, the organizers introduced several unconventional elements:

– WWE-style player introductions
– Encouragement of cheering and jeering from the live audience
– Relaxed rules on traditional chess etiquette

These changes aimed to make the event more engaging and lively for spectators.

**Pre-Planned Gesture**

Contrary to initial impressions, Nakamura’s controversial celebration was not spontaneous. It was a pre-planned gesture agreed upon beforehand by the organizers and participants. The event encouraged players to be candid and expressive in their post-win celebrations to heighten entertainment value.

YouTuber Levy Rozman, who also participated in the exhibition match, revealed that Nakamura’s action was in line with what the organizers requested. Nakamura later explained and apologized privately to Gukesh regarding his gesture.

FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky weighed in as well, condemning the gesture as disrespectful to the reigning world champion. On the other hand, the event organizers issued a broad response defending the event’s spirit and intentions.

**Conclusion**

Despite the backlash, many players and fans have expressed understanding of Nakamura’s intentions, recognizing the gesture as part of an entertainment-focused exhibition rather than a sign of disrespect. This incident highlights the ongoing debate around blending traditional chess culture with modern, entertainment-driven formats.
